Last year we held a gt3 tournament at my school. it was really awesome cause we have these projectors to play it on cause we are like rich... :dopey: i go to a jesuit school ,anyway... I ended up winning it cause im so awesome but to the topic here, im president this year and i was wonderin just how to set up a tournament that would actually be awesome. last year we just had a pair of ppl as a team and brackets and we just used the "s" class for cars. that was really boring but i have gt4 this year and dont kno how to do this cause of all the cars, tracks, and we didnt take into consideration about memory cards. i think we should have memory cards but then again ppl wont have them possibly and ill just kill em with the formula 1 car. But then what cars could we use if we dont have memory cards? just leave your thoughts on how this should be done...

thanks for input... :)

Wow...now that's an unorthodox idea. Really, I'd say to use maybe the basic set of cars instead of the who-has-this kind of playing field. And simple to drive cars, so you don't have collective laggers in your group. It's good when everyone can drive.

wht makes you thikn you could kill us? you know your not the only person with Formula 1, and even if you did, theres lots of cars that can beat it.

Which Rich are you like?
Just shows that even a lot of cash can't buy a decent education nowadays! :p
Or have you just not been turning up to English lessons?
Ever heard of an apostrophe? Grammar? Capital letters? Punctuation?

No txt slang please!
Kids your age can possibly understand it, but what about some of our members from far flung places, like Croatia, Korea, etc, etc, who don't appreciate having to decipher nonsense like that!

you may be, like, rich, but posting like this makes you look, like, :dunce:

It was really awesome, because we have these projectors to play it on, because we are, like, rich...

Sounds like fun. Maybe everyone who still attends school, could ask their AV teacher/ tech to start up a GT club. Heck, we could turn the whole world into a competitive bunch of GT freaks!

Wishful thinking..... :indiff:

More likely - because everyone else sucked more than you did.

I won my school's GT3 comp. by a mile, but I am by no means an "awesome" driver... hell I don't have all golds, and haven't done Mission [Impossible] 34 yet.

Truncated words are appropriate if they have apostrophes...I would know, 'cause I like t' use 'em now 'n' then...

But even then, they still aren't very helpful to the members from the aforementioned countries... :indiff:

Um, he wasn't referring to us, he was referring to his classmates. He was simply asking us for suggestions for a tournament at his school.

If you're so "awesome" in GT, then you wouldn't dream of using a Formula Gran Turismo against anybody without one.

"awesome," as defined by dictionary.com is "Inspiring awe" as in: "an awesome thunderstorm."

"overkill," as defined by dictionary.com is much more suited to your situation: "An excess of what is necessary or appropriate for a particular end."

There's that whole REAL MEANING OF WORDS thing again, pesky bugger!

My advice to prove if you are indeed "awesome" or not:
-Depending on the skill of your competitors use a car 1-2 classes below them.
1: Formula Gran Turismo.
2: Group C / LMP. (Toyota GT-ONE, Toyota 88c-v, Jaguar XJR-9, Nissan R390 GT1, etc.)
3: LM race cars. (rx-8 concept LM, Nissan GTR concept LM, Nissan 350z concept LM, etc.)
4: 500 hp touring cars. (GT500 JGTC machines, etc.)
5: 400 hp touring cars. (AMG mercedes 190e evo touring car '92(DTM))
6: 300 hp touring cars. (Mazda atenza, Toyota mr-s(JGTC), Subaru impreza(JGTC), etc.)
7: FF race cars. (honda integra, honda civic, etc.)
8: Micro cup cars. (VW lupo, nissan mm-r, etc.)

Once I played with a couple of friends and we had lots of fun:
What we did was to start an arcade race with 'regular' gt cars (not race cars), say a Ruf vs. Aston Martin. The one who wins, can race again and must stay with the same car it used to win (until he looses), the challenger may pick a better car, trying to be always in the same level of power. If you start with slower cars it will be even more fun...

Okay. If you don't have memory cards, you can only use Arcade Mode cars, and only the ones available from the start.

They're stock and you can only change tyres or driving aids. For equality's sakes I suggest setting ground rules on what tyres and aids settings may be used.

As for "rich"... I run 8 laboratories, each of which has a data projector in. We do not receive any external funding - just what the LEA (essentially government) gives us. I also take my PS2 in every Wednesday and, as of yet, no kid has even come close.

"AHEM" ....... :)

@aviatorpimpin, Well you havnt been very specific with regars to the tournament, will this tournament be taking place through LAN? will it be just a time trial or head to head battle knock out tournament?

By the sounds of what your saying you are the one supplying GT4 so im assuming that only one console will be being used? if so then just hold a head to heas knock out competition. Get all entrants to put there names in a hat, some body picks out pairs to battle and then the winners progress onto the next round untill there is one person left, the champ. this method would only need for one car to be used, giving nobody any advantage. If you can provide a few more specifics then im sure we can tailor something to help you, i know famine (guy in post above this one) is great at sorting out competitons of this sort and his advice would be well worth listening to!

cheers

Thats because Famine tells the kids "any kid that beats me will be on detention for a week" :sly: :sly:
I also wish I could play GT at work. 👍 Best I can do is read GTP. 👍

when i have parties i just give $5 to a person that can beat me, but i would change that to 1 cent coming here. but put money (if your so rich) in the competition do bets, makes for alot of fun. and i do this iwht alot of game competitions i do with my friends we put mpney down like we do at the track... and for the winner everyone has to put in $10-$20 bucks for the champ money. hah this makes for lots of fun!

Just make sure that the track is fair. Dont use the Ring for example. I'd say that everyone should use the same car. If its a knockout tournament then use progressivley faster cars for each round.

If you want to make it fair see the WRS qualifying thread.
Then do likewise to make the groups competitive.

Run a baseline somewhere like Hong Kong in some crappy little car. Like the MX-5

If you have 9 contestants, put the fastest three in one group, then the second fastest, etc.

If you have 20 or more, and can set up an I-link, then you can run 6 at a time. But each person should get their own individual 5-10 lap qualifier.

Because of your 'riches' you can set up 5 or 6 people to qualify at a time.
Run your quals one week, and then sep up your brackets and run them the following week.

sounds fun, i would use the advice given by Famine. Sounds good
