Though I have had the game for a few weeks now, I have finally experienced this magical moment, and I must say, the feeling I got inside was almost enough to bring a tear to my eye.

I took someones advice about creating an online lobby for this, because as of now, this is the only way you can set a specific time for the Nordschleife. Max players at 2, 4:30 AM starting time, aids off, car of choice: the Chrome line BMW M3.

I start off, pitch black, high beams on, the glow from the interior dials is enough to take my breath away already. Heading down Hatzenbach at full charge in the dead of night is exhilarating. Trusting on my knowledge of the track to hit my apex's. I'm alone on the track but I check my rear view anyway, nothing but darkness, the glow from my brake lights reflecting off the armco. Concentration level is at an all time high.

Continuing on, I begin to think about how this really must feel, in real life, weather aside, just driving on this legendary track in the blinding dark must be something that engrains itself in you forever. Just now reaching the Karussell and I can see a hint of sky up above. By the time I reach Wipperman, the sun starts to break from behind the trees, long shadows are now being cast over the track. The sky begins to glow and a warm orange haze begins to surface. Flying down the Dottinger Hohe straight, I begin to look around, sun glaring from behind in my rear view, high beams off.

One lap complete, I return to the pits, and let what I have just experienced sink in, perhaps the greatest feeling I have ever felt in a GT game. Glorious is all that comes to mind. The track is illuminated with sunlight now, but I will return.

If you have felt something, deep within you from playing this game, please share. This is exactly the feeling I was waiting for after waiting so long for GT5's release. This is what Gran Turismo is all about.

Haha, I too stumbled onto this gem of the GT experience, except in the chrome line Shelby Cobra. The open roof is pretty cool for this. :) Terrific thing to check out in the game. 4:30am is about exactly the sweet spot. If you do it as a "race" you can save the replay afterward and use it to snap some awesome photos.

Good call, just yesterday I drove the CL Cobra as well at Laguna for the first time, the open top was amazing, I will try that out next time. Thanks.

I had this moment too, it was truly amazing, me and my friend were driving some nice 90's Japanese cars, just doing the usual at night, cruising and playing with the retractable headlights, and we noticed it getting lighter, and eventually we saw the sun, making a pink, and orange sky. The glow spread across the dashboards of our cars and made the gauge sparkle.

Me and my friend pulled over and watched the sun come up, a very memorable moment indeed...

And then you kissed? :nervous:

GT5 has some epic things going around, but it doesn't make me go quiet or bring tears to my eyes. It's still a game.

Yes GT is just a game, movies are just movies and books are just books. That doesn't mean different mediums are incapable of evoking emotion within. These aren't sob stories, just a means of looking past the physical boundaries of just a game, and notice the things you normally wouldn't on a day to day.

glad you were able to enjoy this, but the you can't go from total dark to a completed sunrise in one lap for real? Is this adjustable?

Yes it is, you can set how fast the time cycle is.

This is quite magical - that you would stop the cars to watch the sunrise. Kissing would have been the only appropriate action to take once you've parked your car.

Driving the McLaren F1 at the Nurburgring around noon.

The rain has stopped and the sun starts to peek out from behind the clouds. Wipers stopped but rain is still on the windshield where the wipers couldn't reach. I continue on and watch the track surface get dryer and dryer.

I cant but help flick the wipers every 30 seconds or so anticipating drops of water streaming off the hood onto the windshield but they never come.

Eventually the windshield completely dries.

I have more confidence and push harder. I pass a struggling Speed 12. But the sun disappears again and eventually the rain comes back. I've been driving for 40 minutes but it felt like 5 minutes

You never forget your first sunrise at Nurburgring! 👍

Previously I had said (in this thread: How can I drive the Ring at 6am game time?) :

It may have gone unnoticed, but the ring that early in the morning, is one of the great GT5 wow  moments. PD have done a superb job of capturing the essense of early morning and distilling it into digital form. Watch your breaking distances though, they are longer at that time of day! 👍

When you are racing round the Nurburgring Nordschleife, with a car you understand, the feelings and emotions transcend the actual experience of playing a video game. It's no longer a case of holding a pad and pressing this direction on a pad, or that button. It's just you, your car, and the next corner - that is all that matters. Not the 2D trees, not the funny shadows, not the standard car models - just you, your car, and the next corner.

Then you glance up, as you round Aremberg, and see the red sun rising over the hills in the distance... 👍

You guys are creepy.

Wow. How unbelievably crap do the trees, fences and textures in that screen shot look compared to the car model. I see what people mean about total inconsistency.

Your mistaken...the trees look fine ... dont notice the inconsistency ...

For example

I wont ever complain about a game's graphics as long as it doesnt hurt gameplay... I still remember Nintendo racers...

Haha don´t forget, we got such moments in the real world too :D

You guys need to get laid.

I have been laid many times, and have 5 kids to prove it, doesn't stop me being very impressed with the time change on the Nurburgring in GT5.

And I have found in my life that the people who use the line "you need to get laid" are usually nerdy virgins................

Yep, it's true.

Honestly, the knot-heads need to go infest another forum. They do get tiresome.

Anyway, there are very few times in GT5 - or Prologue for that matter, that I don't have some kind of "wow" moment. Well... except when I'm grinding. :sly: But then I come back to the same track the next day, and it feels like I've been waiting a week to get back to a real life race track. GT5 makes it so much more meaningful because of the work that went into bringing these environments to life. Lord knows I like to write, so if a particular moment hits me, I'll be sure and visit this thread with impressions.

One which immediately comes to mind is that I went to the Indianapolis Road Course and ran some laps in a 350Z on medium Comfort tires, much like the Time Trial demo, and the similarity to it is simply amazing. Without the racing line on, after 17 laps, my lap times were almost identical with my first 17 in the TT demo. I even made a thread about it. Tell me that GT5 doesn't have some darn good lifelike physics going on, and it's no wonder so many of us are amazed by it.

I sincerely hope you someday find true enjoyment from your games. When a game transcends the normal boundaries it's something special. A few times in various games I've had experiences that made me feel as if I'm in a trance, like nothing in the world exists but me and the experience I'm having. It might sound corny but it feels like a "religious experience".

I had one a couple months back playing GT4 for the first time in ages, using my DFPro, driving the old Corvette Z06 race car on the Nurburgring. I also just had one a few days ago in Forza 3 with the Mercedes 190E Evo II. My first race in the car was on the Nurburgring(notice a theme here? lol) online against a couple friends. I raced nose to tail with my friend for the whole lap, and between the uber-close racing and the magical handling balance of that Merc, I was in Heaven. I've even had a few in Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion, mostly while sneaking around castles avoiding guards where I seriously had to use my wits to not be discovered. Honestly moments like this are what make games worth the money for me.

I'm sure when I finally get around to buying a PS3 and GT5 I will have more than a few of these moments. Despite having to spend ~$400 just to play one game(yikes!), I'm sure once I have that first moment, the cost will be forgotten.

PSZeTa, open your mind and eventually, hopefully, you'll experience these moments as well.

They had to scale back graphically to reach a consistent 60fps as it is, do you really think they could have complex foliage and NPC modeling and have the game run smoothly?

Complaining about standard car models compared to premium is one thing, complaining that the environment and NPCs aren't photo-realistic is just ridiculous. The PS3 isn't even close to being able to handle that.

Sounds great. Like I said earlier, I have been playing the game for a few weeks now, and I have had other moments of amazement, and also moments of "this really sucks". In previous installments of GT, I've had similar feelings, but this one in particular hit me the most, and I felt like I needed to express myself. Might have come off cheesy to some, but I'm sure plenty of people can relate.
