I don't know if its just me, but I want 2 know if anybody has found use for the Super close tranny. Iv played Gt since the first one came out and always pick the full custom transmission. I tryed putting it in my spec C WRX STI for rally events.....I just want 2 know if someone has used the super close tranny and is happy with it.....

In situations where the car has gobs of power, and long gears the Super close trans would be ideal. However, the car that comes to mind, the Camaro doesn't have that trans available.
It is also good when you have precious little power, (Diahatsu "truck" thingie) to get you the acceleration to get away from the other truck thingies.

However, you are almost always better off with the fully adjustable trans.

I have found the Super Close tranny to be completely useless. The gears can be replicated with the fully cusomisable tranny.

Some people have said it is useful on low powered vehicles but I suspect this would only be on courses with very short straights, i.e.
Driving Park: Beginner Course and
Driving Park: Motor Sports Land II

There may be some cars that can use it on Autumn Ring Mini but that is starting to push it.

I have regretted every instance where I have bought it.

It's best fit for rally races. I use them when I don't want to put more HP & don't want my rev to drop to low during turns.

Nah, its useless. Might as well use the 3 setting slots if you want to alternate between gearing setups without the hassle of re-adjusting the gears manually.

It's useless. On most tracks and even with the slowest cars, it'll top out before you hit top speed on the straight (even at Autumn Ring), the Close-Ratio tranny is actually more useful, as it only los about ten km/h off the top speed of slow cars, and they won't get there unless the straight is veeeeeery long.

I hardly ever modify a car's tranny... pretty unneccesary unless you modify other stuff. I only buy close-ratio trannys for cars that come stock with the automatic gearset (4 gears only) or CVTs... when I feel like spending a lot on modifying the car, I'll opt for the Full-Custom.

In GT1 the Honda NSX Type S Zero was a car in which the super-close transmission worked well. It still topped out near 300 km/h but you got seven gears instead of the six with the full-customizable gearbox.

Never used it since, though...

I haven't used it but I just did the Peugot 206 Cup. I'd say that would be one place where it would be useful as I ended up setting the fully cust tranny to auto 4 and using the biggest final gear available.

But since I haven't used the super close tranny I don't know if you can change the final gear as it was the one thing that made it possible to win at Suzuka east with the 206.

You can't. The Super-Close tranny basically buggers you for top end-speed. :ouch:

It's a problem GT has never worked out : the first steps of tuning are (or become) useless.
In real racing (track or rally) cars are divided into classes and each of these allows only some modification to the car : for example you can't change the gearbox of a group N rally car.
In the game there's no limitation like this , so why should you lose time with the first steps of upgrade ? After the first races ,when you have only a little money , you can easily buy the best exhaust , turbo , chip , gearbox and transform a little commuter into a racing beast which is always allowed to race.
Race requirement based on power ( like in GT2 )are not even enough if you can freely reduce the weight and change the suspensions and everything else.

I always go straight for fully adjustable suspension, transmission, and LSD. Other parts I add the smallest steps first and only move higher up if absolutlely necessary (it usually isn't). Particularly with power upgrades - minimal is best.

with some cars that already have decent gears, a closer are super close tranny is enough. but most roadcars come with a very very long 3rd gear and such... which can only be tuned properly with a fully customisable tranny.

I found the super close ratio gearbox useful for a modified golf mk1 GTI when doing the capri rally. I only used it coz i didnt have the money to buy a fully customisable jobby but it worked out alright...

But so far it has only worked on 1 car, 1 track combination so yes it is useless.

It's funny because thats the first(and only) car I have ever bought one for.
I didn't feel like spending the 12k for a FC and I wanted to keep my A-spec points highish.

i dont think having a better tranny lowers your aspec pts? dont only things that affect power and weight affect aspec pts?

My brother and i had a contest to see who could build the fastest car for under 50 grand.. and i think i he used a close or superclose tranny instead of full custo one to save money.

The type of tranny will have no effect on a-spec points - 100% guaranteed.

I'm another one whose never found a use for it, despite having played every GT there has been. I think I tried it once, and found the top-speed was just way too low to be of any use at all. Spend the extra few credits for a fully customisable one - which is suddenly a great tool for making a car go much quicker. That + racing brakes turned my old (R139) Merc from a tired heavyweight to a very quick motor.

kind of random, but you can make the racing transmission super close by putting the final gear the whole way down and then put the auto setting the whole way down.
Piontless, but kind of cool in a way.
