Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca - Monterey, California
11 December 2005
Race day dawns bright and clear into another world-famous, beautiful California day. An excited crowd, second only to the MotoGP race in numbers, takes their seats in the grandstands or hillsides around the circuit. As at California Speedway last year, there has been plenty to entertain the crowd, with everything from R/C cars to car and motorcycle shows and drifting competitions held throughout the weekend. But now they are ready to watch the main event of the meeting.
The teams of the Super GT series have had a week of practice and are set for 200 miles of close competition. They have fine-tuned their Nissans, Toyotas and Hondas and are confident of their performance over 90 laps. The drivers have done many laps around the 2.238 mile course. They know the keys to victory are turning in fast, consistent laps and avoiding contact with the slower GT300 cars.
The GT500 starting grid was based on practice times. Since only the top four cars turned in a time, the rest of the grid was based on entry submission, with the teams who submitted an entry first place higher on the grid.
