Just got my S-License this weekend, I was wondering which test did you find the most difficult to bronze when you first attempted it? For me, S2 was the most difficult, with S6 a close second. S7, according to Missing Link, is the 2nd most difficult to gold, but I found it the easiest in obtaining the bronze.

I remember I had a lot of trouble to bronze S8 : I couldn't have a fast lap without touching one of the numerous walls on the track.
I have now golded S1 to S5 and silvered S7. S8 is again the most difficult to gold (for me at least), but I'm on a PAL version, so golding S8 required a time below 1'27.800. (1'31 is silver).

I would say the S8 too.

I found it very frustrating. The car was spinning after every corner, when I was back on the throttle. Then I stumbled over the tip, that I should drive it with manual gear changing (Always been driving with auto). After that it was fairly easy. :)

I would have to say the Viper one(S6) the rest of them were pretty much a walk in the park.Had the most fun with the GT-One road car at Monaco since its my favourite track.

I have anger manegment problems so I always Gameshark for my licenses, but I have bronzed up to I-A on my own, I just don't have fond memories of the tests in GT1:mad: :banghead:

I haven't begun golding the upper level licenses yet (still working on A7), but I found S2 far and away the hardest to bronze. S8, OTOH, took less than 20 minutes.

In fact, I'm currently running the Pro GTWC so I can win a GT40 to practice Seattle in, for when I get up there in the quest for gold.

S8 was friggin crazy, took me ages to get just Bronze. i did the license so much i actually memorized the times at each stage. i.e i should be at the tunnel under 50 secs for a time worth going for.

Interesting...for me, S8 was actually easier than S2 or S6. I think it just took me a half dozen times to bronze it. Maybe I was in the zone. I got a T1 of 23.89 s (gold pace!) on that bronze attempt so I knew I was good, but by T3 I was down to 1:08. I guess my 3rd segment needs a little work in order to gold it. Oh well, I'll save that for a much later date. Now I've got the S-License, I really can't use it because I'm not skilled enough to do the S races   . Well, except for the Like the Wind race, but that's just friggin boring :irked: .

I'm not so good at the Licenses. I had my buddy do about half of the S tests for me. But, I had no big problem with S8, i love that track, and have fond memories of running it in my Motorsport Elise. However, S2 was just ridiculous!!! I'm sorry, i don't see how they expected the average player to do that! I think that's the first one i had my buddy, 5Liter_Rice_Eater, do for me. and he was getting pissed! so that made me feel a little better. But I did S8 on my own in a couple of goes at it.

What makes the S-License tough is that they're so long...I can't tell you how many times I've gotten good T1, T2, and T3 times, only to blow it at the end. The other thing is getting plenty of practice for the T1 time, and not as much as the T3 times because you have to get through the first segment cleanly before you can even attempt the next one.

However, I think the point about an average player not being able to do the S tests is that it's not for the average player...the races it opens up are the toughest in the game, so you'd have to be rather precise in throttle control, racing line, braking points, etc. Because I didn't think I had the basic and intermediate skills, I restarted the game without reaching 100% on my first game save. (I'll probably go back and complete that some day).

Right away, I found that I was able to get the A, B, IA, and IB licenses rather quickly, at least better than my first go-around. I passed each test twice (except for the one involving Complex String) just to be sure that I did indeed have improved skills, and it wasn't a one-time fluke.

But yes, S2 was ridiculously hard. It took maybe 20-30 tries just to get the damn GT40 through that first quick left-right with at least 95 mph. I managed 102 mph a couple of times, but not 105 like the demo. I think they should've made that S7 instead because if you think S2 is difficult, then you might think S3 is harder and so on. That can be very discouraging in even attempting the other tests. But this poll shows otherwise...

I guess that is the good thing about the S licenses. It teaches you consistency.

I voted S2 here. It was S2 that got me interested in the game in the first place.

My kids were trying to get their S-License and struggling with S2. Over dinner one night they were griping about how hard it was and how they thought it close to impossible. The point they were getting at was relative to a rule I have in our house that they couldn't get cheats for any game off the internet until they beat that game one time on their own. They were trying to convince the old phattboy to let them go try to find a pre-license game download that had the S license already in it since they had tried so hard.

Not wanting to allow breaking what I thought was a legitimate rule about gaming, I bet them it could be done and they challenged me to prove it. I was stuck... I had never played the game (or any playstation game before) so I was at a disadvantage at even twiddling my thumbs. At the same time, the gauntlet had been thrown down fairly on their part for me to prove the validity of the rule.

Several hours later (probably like 4-5 hours), I finally got the time to achieve bronze S2 license, proved the point to them and reset the game so they could achieve it on their own (much to their chagrin of course). The rule still stands and my kids respect its value a lot more than before.

The next day, of course, I went to Walmart and bought my own playstation and GT3 because the 4-5 hours I dinked around trying to get that S2 license was more fun than I had in a long time. Needless to say, having gotten S2 the hard way once, it was a whole lot easier the second time... and the third... and the fourth... and the golden one.

Those were the days, i loved those things that took some real time and skill to complete. None of the license's seemed difficult except for the GT40 @seatle, which possesed a terrible understeer and inability to power out of a turn sideways.

Sorry, but i'm going to make a quick WAY off topic post here:

Hey, phattboy, sweet Avatar. Is that yours? I have a '77 hardtop, that will be coming off as soon as i get half doors and tailgate.

ON TOPIC:
I guess i should go back someday and do the licenses over again also. and see how much better i am. my winning percentage in my current game isn't that good anyways. But i guess the S License ISN'T supposed to be for the average gamer, a special goal for hardcore GT3 fans to achieve and be proud of. well, damn, i'll have to do it all over myself someday, with no help. :banghead:

Yep!!! That would be Simba! One of three FJ40s I have and my personal favorite. I did a frame-off rebuild two years ago- Locked and loaded.

👍 NICE TO HEAR FROM ANOTHER CRUISER OWNER!!! 👍

I would have to say S2 is always hardest to get the Bronze time on. (I have got gold several times here).
Whenever I go back to redo S2 it always takes a couple of runs to get the bronze time.
Good Idea Neon to practice in the GT40 race car. I took one for a drive before I Golded S2 last week and it really helps to get used to the car (and track).

S2 and S6 are both equally difficult, but both are very fun. But, I just got all gold on the license tests for the fifth time, but S6 was a giant pain this time around. It took me about five hours to get gold. Terrible. To my defense, I haven't played much of GT3 for about 7 months.

i'm no EXPERT on GT3, but i'm no amatuer, (well maybe compared to some of you lunatics with nothing better to do)but i'd say getting gold on ANY S license test is definately NOT TERRIBLE! i wish i had the skill, let alone the PATIENCE!!

For me it got to be a kind of obsession! But in golding the licenses I honestly think the hardest of all... no holds barred... was the stupid wet circles. If I never see those again it would be just fine for me!:banghead:

S2 drove me nuts - I had some big crashes in the back section of the course.

S8 was funny. I hit the walls the first couple of times I ran it, and was pretty frustrated. I took a couple of deep breaths, and said to myself "just run a neat, conservative lap and don't hit any walls. Doesn't matter if you miss the time, just finish the course". It was a nice, clean, solid lap, and good enough for silver.

Oh yeah - I got a great tip for S8 - select manual, and just do the lap in 3rd gear. I've run a silver time (in PAL) doing this.

You say that like you came up with that idea on your own  ;)

Anyway, when you guys say keep it in 3rd gear, do you mean even the hairpin turns after that first down hill straight but before the tunnel?

No - I don't think I said that. I picked up the tip in one of the threads here - and no, I'm not looking it up.

...and yes, I mean the hairpin turns. The GT-One fries its tyres in 1st and 2nd, so running it in third is just as effective, without the danger of spinning under power, it's like mechanical traction control.

Getting bronze on the S licenses is not really that difficult. I think any average player can achieve bronze on all of them with a little perseverance.

Gold is another story though. You do have to get good to get gold on them.

A lot of people seem to think S-8 was hard. To them, I can only say use learn to use Manual Transmision and never drop below 3rd gear. S-8 is the easiest of the S license tests when you use MT and stay above 2nd gear. Early braking doesn't hurt either :).

Of course, if you want to get good, trying to get all gold on all licenses is a good way to learn to drive better. It helped me immensly.

after a bit of perseverence, I got the S-License. But I wouldn't call myself an average player either...better than average, I know I can complete about 90% of the game without too much difficulty. I can't say I'm really good until I can complete the F1 series and the time trials. Those are the races I have to rely almost entirely on my driving skills and not on the car or tuning

I remember doing S8 mostly in 3rd, spent some time on 4th on the end of the straights, but I did downshift to 2nd, esp at the hairpins. Almost each test, esp S2, I knew I could tweak out a few more seconds if I spent some more time on it. But having restarted the game (and inadvertently overwriting my 1st game save, D'ohh!) I have plenty of races to redo and that'll occupy my time as well as improve my driving skills. Hopefully I'll be good enough to get 100% before GT4 comes out :)
