[As always, if anyone would like to volunteer to take a picture, it will go here :)]
Thanks once again, Denur!

Race Specifics

  • Arcade Mode Single Race, set for three laps with no tire wear and tire and difficulty settings for AI open
  • Power: 0% (516 HP)
  • Weight: -10% (1234 kg)
  • Tire Type: any N tires (N3 recommended); front and back compounds may be mixed.
  • Driving aids and transmission mode are open.
  • Standard OLR cleanliness rules apply: Two wheels must be in contact with the track at all times; rumble strips are part of the track; no contact with walls or AI allowed at any time.
  • Please PM me your final time by Tuesday June 30 by 11:59 pm GMT (world clock).

Series General Rules

  • All six races will be run in Arcade Mode, using a variety of the fastest road cars in the game (including some tuned and concept cars; also, most cars will have stock power and -10% weight), and each will last one week, with a submission deadline of Tuesday.
  • Standard OLR cleanliness rules apply: Two wheels must be in contact with the track at all times; rumble strips are part of the track; no contact with walls allowed at any time.
  • Discussion of times in the race thread during the week will be limited to your lap time for lap two. Final times are not to be discussed and must be submitted to me by PM before the week's deadline.
  • Please save your best lap replay in case I request proof, which is unlikely but possible. Unlike last series, since there were no problems, I will not require photo proof of the winner. However, I reserve the right to request a photo of a time if I am suspicious of it.
  • Each race will award points towards the overall championship standings to all who submit a clean lap/race time, with the winner receiving 10 points, second place 8, third place 6, and fourth on down each separated by 1 point (5, 4, 3, etc.). No points will be awarded to a non-submitting driver. You do not have to announce your participation in the championship beforehand: anyone may participate in a race and be counted into the championship points, even if you do not plan on running all the races; similarly, there is no obligation to participate in every race. The driver with the most points at the end of the six races will win the championship.

Well, after a couple weeks of trying to nail a perfect lap in cars that tend to oversteer, this week will feature an understeering car and test your consistency over multiple laps. It's all about nailing braking and turn-in points rather than trying to "feel out" what the car is doing, as you probably did in the warmup and in race one. However, you do have the option to make the car turn more easily by swapping the rear N3s for N2s or even N1s if you think the nimbler handling will outweigh the decreased stability and traction. Keep in mind that you must pass the AI cleanly if you pass at all (although that shouldn't be too difficult with the AI on -10, and likely wouldn't be necessary at all with them on +10 and S3s) and that you may only discuss your lap time for lap two. Have fun! 👍

I may not be seeing or I'm blind but must we win the race? :D
"Keep in mind that you must pass the AI cleanly"

Oops - that was an oversight on my part, since all I did was use AI on -10. It should read, "All AI passes, if any, must be clean." That was a nice spot of an error, and I'll fix it now. 👍

My lap two from my test run was 1'32.384, which shouldn't be too hard to beat. I did it on a straight-up N3/N3 tire set.

Ahhh... I bought this car a few days ago, for a supercar drift photo competition. Hopefully I will submit a time for this. After all, I have to put this car to use sooner or later 👍

Did my first run last night :indiff: I have not driven this car since GT3!!!
3 clean tries could on manage a

1'34.066

Can't get the feel for this car :scared:...using N3's (did I mention I suck with N tires:yuck:) the IA set @ -10 (another run @ 0 w/N3 tires) passed everyone before the fisrt turn, never saw them again.

raz, you aren't the only one that can't get a feel for the car. It pretty much has no feel, so you're quite justified in saying that. Anyway, I've done a run I'm pretty happy with (second lap of 1'31.946, again on N3/N3 with AI -10), because of a terrific first lap, a good second one, and an okay third one. It might be my last run, although I've found this strangely addictive considering I wasn't ever very fond of the combo (yes, race series organizers don't always pick their favorite combos, because they feel they need some variety). Shaving fractions of seconds per lap can be satisfying sometimes, as it is here for me.

Just putting some time in on the course. Corners like a brick on wheels. But a great sounding brick. Will help in the GTPLMS last race.

Going to have a run at this now. Not that it makes too much difference in 3 laps, but what should we have the tyre wear set to? None, Mild or Strong?

Tire wear is off - it's in bold near the top, although admittedly probably in a bad place.

Cool. I take back what I said, tyre wear makes an enormous difference! Set at strong tyrewear, the first lap is on cold tyres and about 4s slower than the "pre-warmed" no tyrewear setting lap! Was wondering how the heck you were managing laps in the below 1'38? Then I switched it to "none" and I've now done a couple of races.

1'33.256 is my best 2nd lap so far.

SFGTP5 preparation is still #1 priority so that's all I've got time for this week. :(

Found some time for this today, and turned TCS OFF, which gave me a speed boost

I raced with TCS ON thus far because I'm playing with dpad. But It does not hurt so much in GT mode since I set it to 1-2 usually, but in ARCADE the game might set it to 5... Can anybody confirm?

Anways, my second lap is between 1.31 and 1.32 I believe. Final time submitted
Great race once again austin!

Will have to try with TCS off. But here is 2nd lap - 137.505. And even if you use the race AI at +10 you can still squeeze by the lead AI Honda NSX by the first corner. Although he bumps into you from the left as you are turning. So used time from -10.

I'm glad you had fun with this one, ruppi. Not being a huge fan of it myself, I wasn't sure how others would like it, but at least I haven't heard anyone say they hated it, which is encouraging. But I do have to ask you, considering where you ranked in the last race, if you're remembering your lap 2 correctly, do you have the correct settings? I think it's conceivable you accidentally left on the S2 tires or turned the power up by 20%, but if you've got the settings right, then that's a great lap. 👍

I always used to leave TCS on, too, before I became adept enough at controlling the throttle with the right analog stick. Eventually I figured out that turning it off usually makes you faster, as I realized that the system affected acceleration even when the wheels weren't trying to spin. I've only recently started turning it off on high-powered race cars, which was the last major category for which I normally left it on. And indeed, in Arcade Mode, TCS is at 5 and ASM at 10/10 when they are turned on, which usually makes them too much of a hindrance to be useful in time attacks.

Actually, this is quite a fun combo. I have a hard time getting of the grid with TC off, but throughout the race TC off helps me to get a better pace overall. 👍

Lap2: 1'34.134

I will be switching my TCS off tonite, did another set last night and got a little worse 2nd lap but overal finish was better.

But I do have to ask you, considering where you ranked in the last race, if you're remembering your lap 2 correctly, do you have the correct settings?

Damn, I think you could be right. I could've switched tyres to S3 instinctively, when I changed TCS to off :(

Is there a way of checking in my replay?

Will check when I get back from work and also send you the last time I had, whicih I'm sure I did on the N3 tires

Is there a way of checking in my replay?

Yes, when the replay begins it will show the car name in white on a black background. Underneath this it will show the tyre type, which in this case should be RD/RD (which are N3 tyres.)
If it's showing SS/SS then you're running S3s.

Thanks horses, I _was_ using S3's. LoL, sorry about that!
My 2nd lap using N3s is 1.34.368

Final time submitted

Time submitted, with posted lap 2 time.

Times submitted.

Never got chance to run enough with TCS off. Submitted time.

Congratulations to Smallhorses and Denur for podium times. 👍 And every submitter should be commended for keeping this understeering car on the tarmac for three laps in a row, which was no easy feat. If you weren't too fond of this combo, I hope next week's is more to your liking. :)

Congratulations to all that podium....
I was thinking bad finish this week...hate those N tyres .

You certainly aren't alone in that; I think that many people get so used to S2 and R1-5 tires from GT Mode races that they have a hard time adjusting their subconscious expectations for grip to a lower level. Of course, they make cars less nimble, which means that it's much harder to correct small mistakes and get a good time without having memorized precise lines and braking/turn-in points.
