With a renewed attempt in GT300, I had much more success. If not for a poorly judged pass attempt on the Opel that saw me run into the grass in an attempt to avoid contact, and one other brief three-wheel-off moment, I would have had a completely clean race. I didn't make many mistakes (shockingly :dopey:) and lost most of my time by waiting behind cars before lapping them. The Alfa was particularly bad in that way, as I caught it in the corner before T2 but found it literally impossible to pass before T3, costing about three seconds in total. I found in my last four laps that the lap record is no match for the Garaiya with soft tires, a half-full fuel tank, and a draft, and I feel I have a good chance at the lap record.

I have a tip for those of you who are competing in both classes: complete your GT500 run first! I made the mistake of starting with GT300, and the Zexel GT-R felt like a total pig when I tested it immediately afterwards. Even after several laps, I was still overdriving the car, which is easy to do when it has not only more power but also much lower cornering speeds. I also found that, in the GT-R, the amount of grip lost by the tires is not reflected in their color on the indicator; there was a major loss of grip with only a slight orange tint to the yellow. In the end, I think Trial Mountain just doesn't suit those cars very well. They will be better on smooth tracks.

I found that was the case for me as well.

Also here. I still haven't got a half decent lap done in my Z, gonna have to put the miles in tonight.

Finally, Finally, Finally, Finally, Finally.

I have worked my butt off for the past couple days and I am finally getting times that I would deem competitive in the Dome. After so many laps I have really come to like Trial Mountain a lot. At first glance it doesn't seem to be that much of a challenge, with the sweeping curves and such but I never had a grasp on how BUMPY the surface is. A missed turn by a couple of inches will send you into the grass, especially on those super fast chicanes.

I decided on only RM/RM for the entire race, on a two pit stop strategy. The tire wear for the RM seems to best fit my racing style on this course.

Without the muscle memory from racing the much more responsive and neutral Garaiya, I had a pretty successful run with the Zexel GT-R this afternoon. I did spin once at the second corner as I went over too much of the rumble strip, although the car turned in the correct direction very quickly and I only lost four seconds. I also got stuck behind the "mobile chicanes" three times, including, perhaps crucially, in two of the last four laps, when I had soft tires in an attempt to claim the two points for getting the fastest lap. In total, those tedious half-laps cost me between five and ten seconds. I also was fairly inconsistent, although with very few obvious mistakes; I had a couple blistering laps on medium tires, but my pace was mostly mediocre. That said, I think my strategy was the best possible for me (although WVUscion's comment about a two-stop race on medium tires is unnerving, to say the least! :scared:), and the lack of major mistakes that I already mentioned was a good sign. Near the end of the race, I was planning to post that I had gotten a nearly 100% clean race, with no AI or wall contact and only a single grass excursion, a brief one at the end of the spin I mentioned, but then I overdrove the last corner of the race on orange tires and bumped the wall on the front straight. :dopey:

While I suppose it isn't altogether surprising if you think about it, I found that the total race times for the two classes were remarkably close. Clearly, the asphalt-shredding levels of grip in the GT300 cars negates much of their horsepower disadvantage.

Was thinking the same thing. In fact alot of the original GT tracks are just plain fun. Mid-Field/Apricot Hill/Deep Forest etc. They may not be the "real thing" so to speak but their design layout is excellent. A little bit of everything in each track. Had a couple more been moved over from GT2 what fun we could have had.

Greetings fellow mountaineers!

I've completed races in my Subaru Impreza with both tire stategies (a two stopper with RM/RM tires, and a one stopper with RH/RM tires) and had very similar overall times. The advantage of the RM/RM was that my best lap was a full second faster.

Having a great time on the mountain, though it's taken me 15 laps before I learned how to drive decently around the yellow hatch-marks on the two left turns. My normal racing line would usually cut through the yellow hatch-marks so I'm learning how to drive around them!

Like Austin343, I had a similar bad moment entering the pits. I smacked both walls and entered the pits nearly backwards!:dunce: I was far enough in that the pit speed limiter took over my car and backed it up (because it was stuck against the pit wall) and got it going for me.:) Needless to say, it does not improve one's lap times.

Oh dear, this is due in tonight and I only just got home :(

Not a good start to the season if I don't get a chance later...

Don't worry too much in.s@ne, it's only the preseason and doesn't count towards the standings.

CAN ANY CAR CHANGES BE MADE IN THE SIGN UP THREAD AS SOON AS POSSIBLE. IT WOULD BE APPRECIATED IF THEY COULD BE MADE BY 11.59PM TONIGHT

On another note, got a GT500 time done. Was going really well until the McLaren F1 I was lapping spun me twice with 3 laps to go. Cost at least 10 secs, but can't be bothered to run it again!

Finished my race, unfortunately I pitted on lap 21 right behind the Falken GT-R, and I was so focused on lapping him I forgot to change to RS tires for the last stint. If I would've remembered I think I could've got best lap if not the track record.

Sorry if it's late, but if the RX-7 LM cars start to play run-away-and-hide again, you think a reduction in HP might be needed?

I think so. Heck, they've got 1% more HP than last year without any added weight, so...

Anyways, my times have been Submitted. To be honest, i'm not really happy with either of my times...But i can only do one race before the A.I. wigs out and pulls out everything but the kitchen sink to try to stop you from winning again so...*Shrugs*

I think the top 3 finishers from the last GTPLMS LMP class might have something to say about that. None of them are driving the RX-7.

Ah, but that's because none of them thought that the RX-7 suited they're specific driving styles. From there, you could say that since GT4 has been played to near-death the best cars are already well-known. It then becomes a challenge of winning while using an un-fancied car (Which could be seen as an extension of the 200 A-Spec points challenges) than just dominating the championship using the RX-7 LM or the Pitwork Z.

Either way, i wouldn't mind an HP cut; It'd probably make the car easier to drive over long runs and cut down on tire wear...Or it could suit my driving style more.:sly:

I'm just saying that it might not become an RX-7 lovefest. And if I was trying to win the series (which I'd love to but won't unless tons of people have serious car problems) 💡 I would chose the best car for me regardless.

We will get to see how it plays out though in the coming months.

I will stick with the MR(NSX), I personally love to drive them, but they can be twitchy and snap on you if you dont pay attention.

Congrats to all finishers and especially the class winners, east and Austin343. Congrats also to Austin343 for breaking both the lap records!!

Wahey congrats to east for winning the GT500 class and also to the piodium performers...
Congrats to Austin for winning the GT300 class and also to the podium performers!!!

Lets move on to the real race!!! I can't wait for it!!!

Confrats to East and Austin for great race  Austin 👍 on breaking the fastest lap!!!!

I was not as ready to jump back into GT4 as I thought after playing Shift non stop :)

GL all on Week 1

Yikes - it looks like I have some work to do in GT500. :scared: I've always been bad at Trial Mountain, but I have to assume that this car's tire wear, greatly exacerbated by my driving, is what kept me off the pace; I used a hard/medium/medium/medium/soft strategy, whereas I suspect most either avoided the soft tires or used them for the majority of the laps. I'm amazed at east's ability to get that much out of the Supra, which was one of the slowest cars for me. So, congratulations for the podium placers, and this series looks like it's going to be very closely contested. 👍

I did Medium/Medium/Medium/Medium. I thought my time was only gonna be good enough for 2nd or 3rd but it got me the win instead :)
