Rules and Regulations​

All rules, regulations, car specifications, and races are controlled by SuperGT sanctioning body, GTMSA. Any and all questions should be directed to GTMSA officials (namely me ICallShotgun) and officials will do their best to answer in a timely and accurate manor.

All drivers must run at the specified weights and horsepower settings provided by GTMSA for each round. Horsepower and/or weight settings are adjusted for competitive reasons each round based on finishing positions from previous rounds.

Standard Online Racing Rules Apply.
  • No Cheating, hybrids, etc. You must run the car specifications I give you
  • Try keeping at least 2 wheels on course. Long races = small mishaps, but absolutely NO shortcuts
  • No wall-riding as well. Combine with penalties, this will slow you down considerably, so don't do it.
  • All decisions by GTMSA officials are final

Qualifying (5 Laps)
  • Arcade Mode>>>Single Race>>>World Circuits>>>Laguna Seca>>>Select Car
  • AI difficulty set to -10 - +10 for all classes
  • AI Tires must be RS.
  • Tires restricted to RM or any combination thereof.
  • Tire Wear set to NONE
  • Penalty set to FORCED PIT ENTRY
  • TCS is allowed IF DESIRED, but NOT mandatory. ACS is PROHIBITED.
  • Gearing is free.

Times must be sent to me in this manner. All information must be there, including correct HP and Wgt numbers.

Wow, 51 views and NO replies? slackers. :) I'll go first.

Well, started off pretty well. I have a hard time on both cars with turn 6, the quick left just after T2. Getting through there either gains or loses me 1/2 sec each lap. But I ran a few qualifying races in each car and I think I'm about as good as I can get.

Anyway, it's All Fools day today, but I won't be foolish enough :lol: to post my best-laps for you all to shoot at.
 
After last weeks disgusting display in the S2000 with my normal HP and -4 reduction in weight, finishing last, I thought it was time to blame the car. So, before I tried to qualify the Honda I did a couple hot laps with last weeks settings including gearing (same this week) to see what sort of times I produced. I then took out the RX-7 (with last weeks settings for best finisher), well suited for Laguna Seca, and after just 2 laps had already beat my time in the Honda. I also IMMEDIATELY noticed the ease at which this car handled. I was all ready to throw in the towel and blame my impulsive choice of car for my poor turnout in every round. But first I though I would go in the opposite direction in gearing. I then proceeded to beat my best in the RX-7 by nearly a second after only a couple laps though just barely getting into 5th gear at times.

Seems I've been going about this the wrong way and hopefully will have more competitive times this round.
 
It's amazing what gearing will do, I usually set it as low as I need for the longest straight then fine tune it in to make it comfortable with as many turns as I can. Many times I set gearing so I never hit 6th gear. You're on the right track esh.
 
I have learned a lot this season about gearing. this is actually the first season I've run without TCS on my car.

Now onw, I can hear you all. "TCS Slows you down!" Not really. maybe 1/2s per lap at best, but the control you have over your car is better without it, in my opinion. Problem is, with my style of driving, I have also had to learn to feather the throttle instead of gas and go!

This also means that gearing is important. I've in the past set it just low enough to max out 6th gear on the fastest part of the course, give it 1 more tick (10km) more for drafting, and go. Now I have learned that gearing correctly takes out wheelspin as well. Imagine my surprise.

@esh: The S2000 is a good car, once you get used to the fact that you shift at 11000+RPM. I drove it for a season in some series (LMS or JGTC GT300) and really liked the car, once I got used to tire wear as well, but that's the same for all low-HP racecars. The S2000LM handles very well, and slices through the air as well as the RX7, which is a feat in itself.
 
Hey Shotgun, think you can do a double-check of the Entry List again? It looks like the Weight and HP settings numbers are missing.
 
wow, I can't believe i, or anyone else, caught that. Just the weights are missing, and the percentages are correct, I'll get this fixed this morning.
 
Hmm...yes please, I can't remember what my "stock" weight is anymore...

As to the gearing discussion, I also discovered this a couple of seasons ago while playing with some gearing options on the somewhat "flabby" Skyline I was driving at the time. The default just-under-the-limiter-in-6th-at-the-end-of-the-longest-straight approach is typically not ideal, as already pointed out, as we don't have the abillity to tune the individual gears in Arcade mode. However the amount of play you have does depend heavily not only on the track but also the engine. The Z is pretty torquey so this provides a lot more room for gearing setups than, say, a V-Tec engine for example.

There does seem to be a sweet spot on most engine/track combinations, and if you crest this sweet spot the performance once again starts to decline.

PS, Results MAY be a bit late this week. My lady is giving her senior recital (she's a voice-major/opera singer) and it's about 4 hours away at 4p in the evening. I don't know if I'll get home in time to do them, but if not, I'll have them up Monday morning, along with the race thread.

Not to be a stickler but weight of S2000 @ -4% should be 1039, right?
 
yes. yes it is. Sorry, I'm at work, and between poking my head in drop-ceilings and running projector cables, I quick-like did it and i was wrong.

Ahh good ol' Laguna Seca. Such a peaceful and relaxing track to drive, with calm, undulating corners and mellow, predictable AI... :p

This track would make coffee nervous.

I'll be unable to submit my Round 9 Qualifying Times in either class because I went w/the incorrect weights and will unable to get the runs and times submitted w/the correct weight on time. So I'll take the Start from Pit Entrance/Moved to the back of the field/10 seconds added on to the total race time penalty for the upcoming Race.

Sorry About that everyone.:guilty::(

My times are AWOL too!

Had a strange weekend, including the British Superbikes meeting @ Brands Hatch being called off due to SNOW!:crazy: 1st time since 1976 (I think) when an "Inter-continental Meeting" was snowed off, that ANY bike meeting has been canceled due to snow.
Well that started yesterday off to a bad start, and it swiftly went downhill from there.
Including, myself and the misses deciding to have an 'early night' after I realized there was no way I could fit in any racing, and Grace (bless her little cotton sock) chose that time to have a sore tummy for 6 hours and wouldn't stop crying unless she was cuddled. :sick:
Needless to say, Daddy wasn't a happy camper! :grumpy:

As I know, Tommi's PS2 died last week and he can't get another one until this round.
 
yeah, it's in the race-thread. It's too bad, that was a close battle in GT500! Actually there's close battles all around the points-list. good to see.
