I'm curious to know if this is a half decent lap-time or not...this is the fastest I've ever done it, with the ZR1 RM set up with racing softs, max downforce and all assists OFF using a DS3.

0.43.492

Is it any good? could it be better?

The strange thing is, out of the 2 ZR1's that i have, this has less hp than the other one - 897 IIRC.

I think that reducing some of the downforce should give you better straightline speed, without compromising your cornering.

OK, reducing the downforce a bit seems to be the way...but what kind of time should I be aiming for?

I run a stock tune on mine, haven't touched downforce or gearing or anything and my PB is 43.188

The best I can manage is around mid 42 second lap. I know I could do better.

The ZR-1 is the car I use to grind Indy. My usual best lap is in and around the 0:43.5xx mark iirc.

I have max downforce my best is 41.963 with a wheel and 42.1xx with controller

I just stuck on everything and got a "pathetic" lap time of 44 to 45 secs. My best is 43.8 something. I didn't do anything like downforce or suspension tuning to the car but I did get the 111m per second trophy with it

after alot of fiddling my best is 41.676. I consistantly can run 41.7-41.8. It took me a long time to get my tune down.

Using DS3. Best time was a 41.7xx. Usually run around 41.9-42.3

(Not tooting my own horn. I just grind Indy and about the only thing to do is try and beat my best time).

Wow, nice. I got to try and get down to that 41.6xx mark.

I use a DS3 too.
=> 43.5XX-43.8XX are usually my times but once I got a 42.978 I was kinda proud because of the Racing Mediums :D
Maybe I will try the RS Tires

I have read around here that some guys are running low 41's. like .2 to .4 thats crazy. I only got in the .6's one time.

Someone posted a tune that will let you grind Indy full throttle the whole race, and I've had the occasional 41.5xx with racing soft and the transmission at 261. I haven't been able to break 3:35 for the whole 5 laps yet but I'm sure plenty of guys have.

Wow you guys are so awesome. You dont even mention the assists you are using yet you are comparing lap times.

ok, down to 0.43.339 by raising reducing rear downforce and adding 1.0 degree camber to the fronts, still on racing softs btw.

no driver aids, everything OFF.

0.42.847 by increasing the fronts to 3.0 degrees camber. Oooft!

I used skid recovery force. I didn't think we were comparing lap times.
tam38gti Just wanted to know what kind of time to shoot for. So we're sharing our best times. Sorry you got confused, comic book guy from the Simpsons.

Who assisted you in typing out that bit of useless dribble?

It's a oval for the love of god, I doubt anyone is using any assists. If they are, then more power to them.

I used skid recovery force.

Evytime I see a thread at GT planet, everyone is shelling out their lap times for a track and car, yet behind the scenes I bet 50% of people are using skid recovovery, and no one seems to take note or even raise the issue.

You assume people arent because its obvious, but that assumption would be wrong.

I took the downforce down to about half in the rear for more turn-in, no assists with a DS3 and it runs solid 42.xxx's without much effort. Can stay in 6th gear the whole time and it's pretty much all out. Really no need to adjust much else on the car it runs nice on that track out of the box. Good luck 👍

0.42.593 is where I left it for the night. I'm quite pleased with that tbh, its a good improvement.
Just to add, since there seems to be a slight debate raging - NO driving aids were used. None. Nada. Zilch.

I'm stuck with using AT with the DS3 until my finger heals from a work accident - my thumb works just fine, thankfully.

I see your point. I just hate the assist elitist arguments that go on. In the end it doesn't matter. It's a race against the clock and people should do whatever helps them beat the time.

Starting to play with the tune a bit. Final drive makes a huge difference. Just upping it from stock to 230 something knocked me down to 42.4. Figure I'll ease the boredom of grinding a bit tonight by actually trying to tune this thing. Maybe I'll get lucky and next week's seasonal will be unrestricted American cars on Indy.👍

The best car for grinding Indy is the Ford GT LM Race Car Spec II. It's just a pussycat, and will do high 42s and low 43s all day long. Low 42's are easy with aggressive gearing, but that just increases wear on the motor (I like to let it max out about 700rpm below the limiter). Use min rear downforce and medium front -- I forget the specific values, but a comfortable front aero setting is about 5 higher than the rear.

The ZR1 RM is slightly quicker overall due to extra ~100hp, but not as balanced, so nowhere near the "zen" experience of the Ford. ;) You have to go with a maximum-oversteer setup to be able to drive flat-out (max front aero and min front spring rates, min rear aero and max rear spring rates...even a little toe-out in front helps).

The Viper ACR is just a pig. Even with a ridiculously loose setup (would be utterly undriveable on a normal road course) it wants to plow straight into the walls. So despite >1000hp, it'll only reliably do mid-high 40's.

Edit: Oh yeah, all this is with wheel and no aids except ABS=1 (irrelevant since you never brake with the Ford or Chevy). I actually tried Skid Recovery and ABS=10 on the Viper and it still didn't help.

My very best with the ZR1 RM at indy was a 41.453. Without drafting of course.
I was farming at Indy and did improve my tune from race to race. And that was the best i could do.

I almost agree with you :): The Ford GT LM Spec II Test Car is even better (yes, you can use it for the Indy race although the car is formally a Japanese car because it's from Gran Turismo) ! Fully modded but without any tuning (except setting max speed to 380 km/h) you can achieve 42.3/42.4 seconds constantly without any problems.

My pb at Indy with a fully modded zr1 was a 41.541 no drafting, no aids, and using a DS3 unfortunately... and I personally think the zr1 is a better car than the Ford mainly because its faster and would obviously win the heads up race there.
