A new professional gaming league called Major League Gaming formed not too long ago and lists Gran Turismo 3 as one of the games used for its first season.

I was surprised that GT3 wasn't mentioned at all in the announcement for MLG's first event. I later found out that MLG was holding back on the GT3 announcement because of the light initial response from the GT community.

I was wondering if anyone here have any interest in competing in any GT3 tournaments in the near future. I'm pretty sure some people here would be happy to attend a GT3 tournament.

alot of ppl here are in various board tourneys... i dont see why not.
I dont have time however.
 
Ive just about fogotten how many tournamants Ive been in in the last 18-24 months...

See the info in the link to the forum above. It sounds like they want to have GT3 as part of their event,.. I just dont think they've inquired to the right GT3 forums.

Have a look if your in the North-eastern part of NA,... this could be a real sweet deal if they could make GT3 an official part.

I sure as hell know that I will go if it becomes official 8)

Lets talk about it here,.... get somthing stirring......
 
This is old news. Saw this posted on granturismo.com a long time ago. The site hasn't changed in several months, and it really doesn't look like much of a legitimate thing.

I'm just saying don't get too excited until you read a writeup of how things go in the New York event next month.
 
I talked with "TheCommish" today. He says they really want to do it if they can get some kind of reaction from the GT3 community.

So,... it WONT happen if we dont give them a reaction. If you browse the site, you'll notice that they do seem to have their stuff together,... they just need feedback.
 
Yes, we do need some support here if we want to have a GT3 tournament in MLG.

Anyone here have predictions on how the tournament format be like. I'm guessing that it would be head-to-head rally racing on i.LINKed PS2s using the Logitech GT/Driving Force steering wheel.
 
The easiest way would obviously be two player head-to-head (I-link), double-elimination, 2 or 3 laps races (depending on course).

Rules for contact would have to be strickly enforced. Penalizing someone, say, 1 full second at the end of the race, would sure as heck keep contact to a minimum. Any blatened attempt to run someone off the raod would mean imediate DQ.

I laso have a 'pool' idea in mind,.. but that would depend on how many PS/2's could be linked together. If the people running the comp CAN get 6-ps/2's linked together,... the elimination process would go much faster,... but the rules on contact would be harder to enforce.

I seriously doubt they would have any such rules until they saw an entire season of games dominated by players who ran others off the road. People would argue "it's in the game," and "that's what your rear-view mirror is for," and it would be hard to enforce without evidence of problems caused by it in a previous tournament. That is, if you couldn't cite precident of someone dominating a tournament through unfair methods, there wouldn't be an answer to all the kids shouting "unfair" about being penalized for ramming someone off the road. And I can guarantee people would raise hell if you penalized them for cutting through the grass on Trial Mountain.
 
So this is something you'd have to be in person to do? With PS2's physically connected?

I didn't look at the site. Looking forward to GT4 for online racing, though.
 
Yeah, once we get a good online racing game, this sort of thing will be much more viable.
 
K,.. either way,... even if its complete anarchy,... any regular would have a serious advantage over drivers who only have experience with that sort of behavior.

I think it could work,... make it a no-rules comp. Smart driving will always win over,... and if you happen to clip a rear corner or two during turns,... well,.. that would be considered smart driving. :lol:
 
Good news, GT3 is going to be added to the NYC event. Registration for GT3's tournament will begin in a couple of days. In case you haven't known, the registration fee is $50. The fee is quite high, but I guess I can accept that.
