Anyone else found a car that performed better than they expected? Or a car that they'd overlooked for a long time and then was favourably impressed by? Mine today is the 'Dodge SRT4', i'd overlooked it for a long time then actually had a proper look at it and after reading the showroom info decided on acquiring it for my collection - unbelievably, it actually does whup the frilly knickers off any and all of the Skyline GTR roadcars including the Nismo 'Roadgoing Version'!! Perhaps for those here who are based in United States this will be old news, but this car is HOT!!

Y'all be welcome to post your discoveries here. :)

Yep... a few!

Mazda Mazdaspeed Atenza ‘05

Subaru IMPREZA Super Touring Car

Mitsubishi FTO Super Touring Car

Yeah, I knew that the PD fantasy designed touring cars would be high performance, but I was even more impressed than I thought I'd be. I'm also aware that Mazdaspeed tuned vehicles are deceptively quick and agile, but this also beat my expectations. As a plus, it delivers great performance hidden in a cloak of a four-door suburban grocery-hauler!

Yeah, At first I did not think that the Lotus Elise 111r was a fast moving car but i'll be damned, that car went and cleared the race in a jiffy.

Same for the Suzuki concept car. That car had low horsepower. But it was (torque or RPM) That conpensated for that horsepower. He was faster than I thought.

The RUF 3800rs is a car I passed over for a very LONG time until finally I said, what the heck, and when I drove it I was like wow this car is amazing I did the nurburgring in 7:40 first try, it impressed me more so than the GT3 based RUF, so I'd say you shouldn't look over ANY Car at all.

Nissan Xanavi nismo gtr, Because, although it is pretty much as expected, the gear change is so smooth, quick and efficient, much smoother than any jgtc nissan, or any jgtc car for that matter.

I totally agree. My suprise car? either the Alpine A1600S or the Spoon Integra Type , both are more fun to drive than I thought and the Alpine handles alot better than I'd of thought an RR car would.

My most recent discovery was the Buick GNX. Didn't have much faith in it so tuned it a bit before the race. Dropped it a bit, stiffened up the shocks and springs went for it. Was quite surprised with how good it handled with just some basic tuning. Didn't think it would be that good but it ended up impressing me.

I refuse to believe a neon can be faster than a skyline :yuck:

For me, I'm impressed by the lotus Europa's great drifting capabilities. Definitely trying out this car when GT5 comes out.

LOL!

Refuse if you like, 'tis true..

You sure? Because I know for a fact that it's a piece of cake to beat a really good SRT4 lap with something like a Nissan 350Z. (On the same tyres).

I don't think there are any cars that are better than I thought they would be, I know pretty much what to expect from every car in the game.

Spoon S2000 Race Car.

In other GT games, I thought it was pretty underwhelming. But there's an overtake Challenge where you drive the S2000, and I was surprised by how fast it was. When I got the chance, I bought it and went to the High Speed Ring. It was constatly revving, and the acceleration was much better! So much that I topped out at 165 MPH!

I have to agree about the neon SRT4 i bought it today also and i was pretty impressed how it handled and how fast it reached its top speed even though it could really use a sixth cog

Is that the one that's supposed to rev really high, but was limited to well before its powerband in GT4? If so, did they fix it?

Yeah that's the one. It's stats said it revved to 11000 rpm in GT4, but could only get up to 9000. It looks like they fixed it, as it's much faster than before.

do you mean faster than an ai skyline or do you put down faster lap times with the dodge than with a skyline?

Good question!!

Truth be told, the SRT4 is at least 3 seconds slower per lap at Autumn Ring (reverse) than the Skyline GTR V Spec II Nur '02 or NISMO GTR R-tune '99, but is still surprisingly good for an 'entry level' sports Dodge.

Ahh ok, had a feeling it was SRT4 beating AI skyline and not SRT4 beating your Skyline lap times. :D In any case, I'll look out for the Dodge in the dealerships and give it a try.

HONDA HSC CONCEPT
I couldn't believe how fast it is. It doesn't have a whole lot of HP but it screams & passes cars with twice as much HP. Literally, I beat AI Zonda's & Enzo's on Nurburgring with this 340hp car.

Peugot 905 Race Car
This thing is awesome. When you're at the dealer, it says it only has 512hp but it has 799hp when you buy it. It handles ****in awesome, similar to the Toyota GTONE's handling except it's faster in the corners but a lower top speed. It's my favorite race car in the game

VW Nardo W12
I figured it was going to be fast but holy balls can it corner. It can easily beat cars w/ similar horsepower w/out the slightest problem & even can beat Bugatti Veyron AI's

Toyota WEDSSPORT CELICA (JGTC) '03 !

I was really surprised by this car : I didn't expect it to that good when I tried it at the Nurburgring ! Loved the laps I did with so here it is !

Trial Celica for me. I thought it's just another understeery FF race car, but the handling is surprisingly crisp and agile! The engine sound is nice as well.

hmm....i had a few
For normal race:
Honda NSX-R LM road going version
BMW M3 GTR touring car

For drifting:
amuse carbon r
amuse s2000 gt1
mines bnr34

I just bought myself a red Lancia STRATOS and equipped it with racing R3 tires. My opponets where an audi, TVR griffith 500, and a loutus espirit. It SMASHED the competetion.

A good car for me is fun to drive and capable of a good Nurburgring time. Step forward the BMW 2002 Turbo, the old 80s Mitsubishi rally car (the Colt ?) and the Jaguar XJ220.

Using standard physics the first can get under 8:30, the second 7:25 and the bulky but controllable Jaguar an impressive 6:50.

In my quest to drive every car around the 'ring I just drove the ASL ATRA Garalya '03. It was a lot faster than I remember from GT4 and, more importantly, it wasn't too hard for my big clumsy fingers to control. I think I am going to add it to my favorites and see if some slight tuning will make it even better.

Mine would have to be the '96 integra type R. After driving it i was shocked to see it outpaced some of the quickest laptimes i had set, easily thrashing skylines and v8's.

I bought the Subaru 360 and finished the 'Ring in 17 minutes and 58.

well let's just round it to 18 minutes :D

It did the job, and I'm proud of it

Ya, the "Ford RS200 Rally Car '85" I never liked Ford, but I love rally cars so I thought I'd try it and I was extremely surprised, I did 7'48.927 on Nurburgring, no assists, S3 tires, which isn't that great but I'm bad at it so I was impressed.
Also the sound of the car is outstanding.
