-> Have you ever seen products that are ripoffs from the original? Playstations that plays cartrages instead of CD's and they them "Ravestation", boomboxes that you thought it was a Sony but it was labebed as "Sonya"? Right now even SUV are affected in this type of scrutiny, just to make an extra doller.

Here are the "Pirated" SUV's:

Article and Pics from Autoindex.org

Recently many new Chinese off-roaders appeared on the market. Here are some of them.

Baoding Dadi, one of the myriad of Chinese cheap knock-off SUV producers introduced new variants on their existing models.

BDD6492E City Leading
Based on the City Courser, this model features a new front end which resembles another better quality Chinese product, the Beijing-Jeep Grand Cherokee... The donor is the old Isuzu TF pick-up, engines are locally produced Toyota-clones.

BDD6491E/C
It is built on a shorter, Mitsubishi-derived platform and powered by either the 2.2-liter Toyota gasoline engine or Shenyang Mitsubishi-built diesel units.

BDD6493E
Although another similar model from Shuanghuan Automobile has already made Honda sit up and take notice, Baoding Dadi is now also offering a SUV which from a certain angle looks like a Honda CR-V.

Their cheapness and relatively good equipment compensates for dubious quality and styling issues.

Forth
Beijing Automobile Works put on the market its new Leichi CUV (car-based utility) vehicle.

The Leichi which was introduced earlier this year at the Beijing Auto Show is riding on the same platform as the Baoding Dadi City Leading but it has a different front end styling.

Fifth
Hebei Xinkai introduced its HXK2023E recently.

The car which is based on the Beijing-Jeep 2500 but has a Nissan-like front end is powered by a 3.4-liter Toyota engine.

-> Some of these manufactuers getting sued now. And there is no way that they will go outside China.

And this is not the first time, Avanti made this SUV called "Studebaker XUV":

And they get sued by GM by mimiking their popular SUV-Hummer H2

Uhm, car manufacturers sometimes lease their designs to other manufacturers. You may recall the Isuzu Rodeo looking an awful lot like the Honda Passport?

^ I know about that, also the Isuzu Trooper and the Acura SLX back then.

But these knock-offs are not legal, if you look closely on the BDD6493E/C and the CR-V. It's not like the Rodeo/Passport-Trooper/SLX-Odyssey/Oasis twins, its a complete knock-off vehicles.

Well, China refuses to play ball with the rest of the world. You should see what they do about restraining internet access. I wouldn't believe their cars are importable into the United States for resale, based on patent violation, it would seem.

Jeeze, its just sad, how car companies are ripping off other's designs, its not like they can't come up with their own designs. Sheesh!👎:grumpy:

wow, this thread is messed up... that made me go crosseyed and hurt my brain at the same time... It's like being tossed in a police line up room and being told weither the person was a female/male transexual or transvestite (sp?). 👎:grumpy:
