Apologies if this has already been posted, a quick search didn't come up with anything...

Is anyone else having major problems with the last chicane at Suzuka? I just can't find a good braking point or line for this corner and it's annoying me a lot. I can find a reasonably quick way around every other circuit but this one corner is driving me mad :ouch: :ouch:

That corner means I have to be almost inch perfect (no bad thing I guess) everywhere else on the circuit just to have a chance of winning a race. Could be just because I suck at TT, but I'm hoping it's not just me.

Any hints/suggestions would be very much appreciated :)

I need more info to help you. The braking point varies with the bike and speed you're carrying out of the turn at the end of the straight. :)

Fair enough - the race that has caused me enough problems to post this is the BMW K1200R one, race 15 I think. I tend to brake early for 130R and get reasonable exit speed out onto the run into the chicane. I either end up carrying too much speed and crashing into the barrier, or going too slow into it and falling off on the sand. I can win the race by taking advantage of the way I respawn on the circuit, but I'd like to win it fair and square....

Thanks in advance for any help :)

Yeah, I think just before the bridge for braking, and the turn IS SLOW, don't try to rush it. However, don't be late, either. The apexes are the middle of the turns, not the beginning. I say this because I see so many people aiming for the curb, and leaning when they reach it. You should be starting up to lean the other way when you touch the apex.

I've hit this perfectly once. It was wonderful! Have no idea how to repeat it, but I'm trying. 130R, on the other hand, is what's killing me. . . . I've NEVER done it right, even though I've completed the game.

Thanks again for the replies - still haven't hit the chicane right yet, but I've hit right enough to win the race.

wfooshee - funny you should say about 130R, I've had that one right a couple of times and it felt exactly how you describe the chicane. It was fantastic, just felt soooo natural drifting slightly through. If only I could replicate it at will...

[edit] and thanks for the advice also, I think I'm taking it too tight - probably need to turn in later and harder, and like you said be just starting to go the other way at the apex. Shall try to get it right tomorrow...

With the agile bikes it's no real problem for me, but with the Yamaha VMAX or even with the Busa (sometimes) if I don't slow down enough I just go out :grumpy: And If I don't, the cornering speed is really low......is this normal, that motorcycles have a huge turning radius at low speed ?

Oh I kinda answered my question why the cornering speed was so slow :dunce: You have to change direction 2 times right ? that means shifting your body around 2 times in a couple of sec.......👍

to be honest, i think the corner on suzuka west that bypasses suzuka east is worse than the final chicane.

brake early for that fast left sweeper, carry as much speed out of it as possible, you need to find the breaking piont its quite late, come into the chicane on the far left, turn in late squaring off the corner so you end up being back on the right of the track for the rest of the chicane

I know exactly what you're talking about. Even if I stay on it still ruins the lap. Only advise I can give is break just before the advertisement over the track and by no means keep your knee in. Sometimes cutting the corner by going over the sand works, it avoids the tight turns, but its cheating.

The tough part for me is getting lined up for that chicane right after that fast left. I overshot onto that extra patch of asphalt so many times, but what seems to work best for me is braking just about when you hit the bridge, untuck so the rider's body helps slow you down, then try to cut in late and go straight through. Doesn't always work though, and I sometimes slow as much as to 20mph before turning left...:yuck:

Well, i was really suprised by this chicane the first time, because i played Gt4 before and if you do TT then you don't expect it.. had to find it out the hard way in a license test. Anyways, just make sure you brake till first gear, it won't be too hard from there.

If I remember correctly then one of the license tests in the game, is all about handling this Chicane.

What I like to do is watch the preview from the same 1st person view that I play the game, and then try to copy it as closely as possible.

The test is probably not performed with the same bike, but at least you'll get a pretty good feel for it.

cheers :) the riding style (form) is my own. i started with the default 'lean in' form ('lean body' in ntsc land) and tweaked it from there

Gotcha. I did the same thing, but I think I've set myself up for higher speed courses, so when I hit a chicane like that in Suzuka I have to slow down a ton to get set up at least somewhat properly with enough room (and just enough speed) to flick the bike over to the other side. I've found that I'm sometimes down to as low as 20 mph!

I Love Suzuka, here's my strategy on the turn.
