The Suzuki Grand Vitara is a compact SUV built by Suzuki. It went into it's 3rd generation in 2005 in conjunction with General Motors on their "Theta" platform and was built in Japan by the same Suzuki engineers who developed the Theta. While it shares components with the Theta, namely the suspension, it should not be considered a Theta vehicle. Namely as it is rear wheel drive with longitudinal engines, while the Theta is front wheel drive with a transversely mounted engine. While the Theta can be ordered with AWD biased front wheel drive, the Grand Vitara offers off-road capable selectable AWD.

The vehicle is highly regarded for its offroad capability, made possible by a lockable central differential along with low ratio gears and adequate ground clearance and its purposeful outdoor form factor and styling. The reason why it is so popular is that aside from it being one of the very few SUV's capable of competitively going offroad on the market, it doubles as a practical family car.

In 2008 the Grand Vitara recieved a facelift along with a new 3.2 V6, available only in Prestige trim (Costing $40,490 in Australia), with 221HP and 284 NM of torque. The AWD mode also became available for all models with lockable central differential with low ratio gears more suitable for off roading.

Love these cars - did they ever do a 3 door version with the 3.2? I could never find out.
I'm not sure if it was offered in the 3 door version, but I've read is was only available on the "Prestige" trim, which is the flagship model. I'm not sure if the Prestige trim was even offered on the 3 Door.

If so, it's a shame. Imagine 221BHP powering that little tyke through a dirt stage... y'know, until it fell over on a sharp corner.

I drove one of these once - though it was either a 2 or 2.4 litre engine. Really nice interior. Basic, but everything was well placed.
