I have tested this with multiple versions of Swapmagic and can confirm it doesn't work, even though it does get you the furtherst possible so far - you do get the opening screen and the wheel calibration, but then it stops.
I was successful at 'fixing' my U.S. PS2 and I am presently practicing on the Nurburgring with the Japanese Demo Version.
I am very interested in purchasing the Japanese Version of GT4.
Is it reasonable to expect that the Japanese Version of GT4 will work on my PS2 since the Demo Version is working flawlessly?

The Demos are all DVD5 whereas GT4 is a DVD9 - which is pressed in a most peculiar way.. So there's nothing to do but test it to find out if it works...
Thanks for the response. I should have indicated in my first post that I am not using any type of disk swapping technique.
Anyway, I suppose that I'll just keep on practicing while waiting for the U.S. release of GT4, since +/-$80 is a bit much
for me to experiment with at this point in time.

i was in the same boat as you.....had the swap magic, but i found out on a similar thread in dec that it won't play GT4, so i got the matrix infinitychip installed in my PS2 before my GT4 came in the mail, and i works great
