Welcome to the season finale at sunny Laguna Seca Raceway in southern California! We're here to wrap it all up among the 7 or 8 drivers still in the championship. With the unexpected DNS of quattro_bro in the Team Mazda Protege last week, the points race has had a little shakeup as we head down to the wire.

Unless somebody has a better idea, I guess we'll just run it as another 10-lap track meet. I was hoping to find time to locate a somewhat-challenging GT mode race for the finale, but that hasn't happened. If somebody knows of a good one post suggestions here.

Mode: 10-lap track meet, run warmup lap in 6th position, passing prohibited until after the clock starts at the s/f on Lap 1.

I've already done a little practice here from when YLG originally stated that Round 10 was to be at Laguna. I'm so used to piloting powerful rear-drivers around this track that a 'fronty' seems really clumsy. GT4's updated and more acurate version of Laguna Seca doesn't flow as well as previous versions. Turns 4 & 6 are slower than before, turn 9 is trickier and the final turn 11 seems easyer.

With me having a little balast from the last round i'll have to have a mess around with weight distribution. This has lead me to realise that GT has no weight distribution figures for the cars available. BMW's are well known for having a nice neutral 50-50(ish) set-up, but most cars go one way or the other (generally depending on whether its a front or rear (& mid) engined layout). Its never really mattered in previous GT's because you could do nothing about it anyway. But with GT4's added weight distribution option, you would have thought that they'd give you the 'corner weights' for all the cars so you could aim for that magical 50-50 balance.

last round, i hope to keep my 3rd in the champ standings. again time is againts me, i hope to get time. i just checked my schedual and it looks like ill be doing this wensday.
 
My season is complete! :D

Ran my practice and the race this morning. I was pretty happy with practice, but my race went terribly ... I find it particularly difficult to be consistent at Laguna Seca (in GT3 or GT4), and the new Laguna is still a mystery to me :confused: hopefully I can hang on to the points lead! :p

Anway, best practice lap was a:
T1: 0'23.640
T2: 0'46.407
T3: 1'09.634

Best race lap was about 0.800 off of that :(, and my worst race lap was 4.000 off :grumpy: The worst lap was the first one, because of traffic. Only minor incidents until the last corner, where I got sandwhiched between to AI cars like a girl between Will Farrel and Chris Kattan on Saturday Night Live. Brake checked in front, rear ended from behind ... 👎

After that, I had a couple of offs at the left-hander at T2. A little mistake there and I was building sand castles.

Wish I could've ended on a better note, but it was a fun series none the less :D See you guys in the results!
 
I've learned one major lesson tonight.

You most definitely cannot 'throw' the car around LSR like you could in GT3.

this version of hte track much more prefers leisurely coasting and long-smooth turning inputs. Including the screw! Anyways... still practicing not nearly consistent enough for my liking yet.

I am just behind your practice pace so far luxy... about .200 behind T1, .300 behind T2 and .500 behind T3. I know there is another large chunk of time in the screw, but the line is so hard to find. I am pretty sure before T1 I am losing the time in the hard right, I can't find a comfortable braking point....

More later... I will mos tlikely finish this race off tonight. I would much rather have my Sunday evening all to myself :)

I just love this track ….. I must have gone around it thousands of times in GT3 and I have not seen enough of it in GT4 ….. I am not sure which one of the two versions I like better but the fact is that Laguna Seca has its own personality and it is a great place to race in.

One whey or another everything has to come to an end and this is the end of this event, despite the final outcome I want to take the opportunity to express my gratitude to YLG and Duke for organizing and maintaining this event, I am new to GT Planet and other than Link I am not very familiarized with most of the names here, but it was very rewarding to be a part of this group of extraordinary drivers, I had a grate car, my team mate is a grate and consistent driver and in general it was a very nice experience.

I certainly hope to find some of you in future events.

Nothing special, but definitely a decent way to finish out the season. I probably lost a total of about 8 seconds, but I'm sorry to say that I couldn't be arsed to forth my 'regular' type of effort.

My pleasure, guys. It's been fun!

I'm hoping that I'll get a chance to run a few laps here but I may literally have to just hop in the race car and rip out 10 laps just to avoid a DNS. I'm trying to get ready for the first round of deadlines for the BC5 competition, and do some personal stuff, AND I have work I brought home from the office that has to be done by tomorrow morning. But hopefully I'll get an hour to run.

I'll post the final results as soon as I can.
 
I just wanted to share this in case some of you would be interested on trying it, specially considering the fresh practice on this circuit ….. after I submitted my time with the BMW I did the following race:

It is also fun to have some Ai competition, that Nissan R89C is a tough cookie ….. If you have the time try it, I had fun.

I'm all for waiting until you can submit 👍 I think you've earned atleast a day or two considering what you have done for this series :bowdown:

I vote we wait until Duke can run his race.
 
Thanks; hopefully that might also give quattro_bro a chance to get his last licks in too - I know he was out of town until yesterday or today.
 
I agree, as much as I can't wait to see the final results, I think you guys deserve a chance to actually finish the series, the intention of YLG throughout the whole thing was promoting as much fun as possible, through a little healthy competition. The more fun the better, I think all of us have earned the right to a series that closes on a high note.

OK, I ran my race tonight, but my flash drive with the score tab is stuck in my computer at work, so I can't post the results until tomorrow morning. Thank you for giving me a couple extra days to get to it - life has been insane this month.

I haven't driven since my quick-n-dirty knockoff at Autumn Ring, and the TSX isn't liking 70 kg of ballast, and I'm not really used to the new Laguna Seca yet. Nearly every corner is subtly different, and my braking and turn-in points were all screwy. I did manage to turn in some consistent laps by the end of the session.

But all the above commentary is based on the fact that I'm slow and I know it. There's a reason I'm BC5 steward and not a driver.

Have i missed the final results somewhere?

Or is Duke just snowed under with BC5 stewardship? - i've checked the BC5 thread and there's some very impatient and demanding people over there! - i think they need to chill.
 
i thought we would be waiting for a couple of days but i think this is a bit too long.
 
Give Duke a break guys, adminning a BC is no easy task. I wasn't expecting him to be able to finish with this series until the weekend, and now it appears as though we will get the results tonight. I didn't see anybody else offering to take over adminning this challenge so that it would actually finish. And there were three occaisions where YLG took longer than this to get everything together.

Damn kids these days.... :P
 
I'm happy for him to take his time. The fact that he's taken over from YLC means we all owe him.

i just didn't want to have missed the results, thats all.
 
Thanks for your patience, guys! I had a scoring error that it took a bit to track down, meaning I had to score Round 11 twice. All appears to be OK now, and there were no changes to previous rounds. And now, at long last, here are the Finale results. I'll be posting the championship summary in a minute as well.

Glad to have you as a teammate, bhawk. I'm also disappointed that the protege's dropped out near the end, I was looking forward to the race for the manufacturer's title too :p With you solid performances week in, week out, we'd have been in great shape 👍

I only joined in mid way through the championship, but its been great fun.

I was suprised to get 4th at Laguna, i'd hardly practiced and only just got chance to knock out my 10laps. I never really felt like i'd nailed a good clean lap, but i suppose the lack of weight compared to everyone else who compeated might of helped somewhat.

Thanks for a great race series guys - its been good racing against you - hope to see you all out there again soon!
