Sweetener linked with Cancer and the Sweetener is called Aspartame. Foods with this are:

Soft Drinks and Cola
Fruit Drinks (Pure non concerate Juice does not have it, by the looks of it)
Chewing Gum
Fruit Youghts and Youghts
Dairy Desserts and Fromage frais
Medicines
Table-top sweeteners
Syrups and antibiotics for children
Low-Carlorie Meals
Sports Drinks (Gulp football teams will need to look into there players sport drinks now.)
Sweets
Chocolate Bars
Mints
Ice Creams and Frozen snacks
Cereal mixes, muesli
Fruit Preserves and canned fruits

Also this sweetener is 10 times more dangerous then sudan 1. Ok after having a look through some drinks, I found Pepsi and Lilt has it.

Which would mean also Coke and other top brands, another thing which has it is Muller Light Youghts.

As soon as I find out more products affected by this I post it up. So if your going to eat something check out what is in the thing you about to eat.

Or if you about to drink check in your drinks, also this news story was found on Daily Express Newspaper.

I scan the full story later guys, or i try and find it somewhere else.

Isn't it just the diet colas that have aspartaine instead of a proper sweetner... like sugar...

Besides, I've come to the conclusion that everything causes cancer in one way or another. The air we breathe is probably giving us cancer.

If anyone else finds any other food or drink with Aspartame, plz post it we must keep everyone updated folks.

We already have cancer, you just need to agravate it.

Just keep living your usual life people...

Aspartame has been known to be potentially carcinogenic for years. Another reason not to drink diet cola (aside from the awful taste) :)

I can see a lot of shops pulling a lot of stuff off in the morning. I think the 24 hour stores have started to pull stuff off the shelves.

Also they tested Aspartame on rats, and well they got Cancer and other stuff related to Cancer guys.

Follow-up news: Alcohol causes drunkness.

Seriously, this news is older than I am.

Agreed.

This is quiet old news that Aspartame had less than benefical aspects. I clearly remember my dad telling me not to drink diet sodas and what not when I was like 5, cause of cancer and what not. Made a bit more clear cause my mom died from cancer.

So yeah, I tend to avoid diet drinks and fake sweetners.

Take note - only diet products and what not tend to have Aspartame. Natural sweetners, such as good ole sugar, do not have this issue.

Please do a proper amount of research before posting information that causes such a reaction.

And why was it on Daily Express newspaper on Thursday 15th Dec 05. While it was front page news in big bold letters.

Because it was a slow news day, and maybe some additional study linked it.

Trust me, Daily Express news is not likely hyper current in the world of science or bio.

I wouldn't generally put "Daily Express" and "newspaper" in the same sentence.

It's a wodge of paper that happens to have two decent Sudoku puzzles and Calvin & Hobbes contained within.

Aspartame has been linked to cancer longer than I can remember.

Because it seems the Daily Express newspaper successfully preys on clueless folks like you.

Saccharin is supposed to cause bladder cancer or something, too. But, it tastes a lot better than aspartame, and, therefore, must be a better choice.

So far, Splenda is the only "sugarless" sugar that doesn't give you AIDS, Rabies, or any other malady. It contains Sucralose.

I’ve known this for years, thus I’ve never had diet soda. This takes the “new” out of “news”.

Did you know deodorant pitstick causes breastcancer in women?

Did you know that cell phones have certain impulses that deform cells?

Did you know all of this is common knowledge?

Do you think I actually care about any of this?

I knew aspartame and the chemicals contained in diet pop was bad for you, I always thought the cancer thing was just a myth. Oh well. I hate diet drinks anyway. If you're fat, eat less and excercise.

Everyone put on your sunglasses, here comes a blinding flash--

Also causing cancer: radiation, cigarettes, and the sun!

My toilet bowl is carcinogenic.

or, rather, arseinogenic.

[whiney nerdy voice]you guys are off topic!!![/whiney nerdy voice]

Your mom is carcinogenic....but I smoked her anyway.

If you don't drive well, your car will become cinogenic.

OH, HO HO HO HOOO!!!!

OK, I did some looking around and according to this article in the latest issue of Environmental Health Perspectives (EHP), a peer reviewed journal, a new study was done testing rats using the approved levels of aspartame (50mg/kg in the US and 40mg/kg in Europe) and above by giving the rats aspartame measured by mg/kg.

They tested the rats using simulations of "daily human intakes" with 5,000, 2,500, 500, 100, 20, and 4 mg/kg of body weight.

So, taking my wieght of 200 pounds or 90.7 kg the lowest dosage would mean 362.8 mg of aspartame. A 12 oz serving of Diet Coke has 131 mg of Aspartame, or 1.44 mg/kg of my body weight. So, three diet cokes (36 oz) in a day. I drink Diet Rite, which uses Splenda and not aspartame (Equal, Nutra Sweet).

At the highest level I would have 453,500 mg of aspartame, or approximately 3462 Diet Cokes (41,541 oz) a day. Who in the name of God drinks that much in a day!?

That is probably more like pure poison when the issue is that aspartame breaks down into amino acids and methanol. The methanol then metabolizes in the liver into formaldehyde and formic acid. This is what causes the issue.

This sounds bad, except that a study in the journal Toxicology done in 1988 shows that the methanol concentration in released by aspartame are equal to that found in red wine and fruit juices.

To sum up, we are testing rats using levels that go from large amounts for the average human to impossible to drink in one day and illegal to find in any one product, and we found they had multiple cancers. I couldn't get that much aspartame in one day if I ate the entire box of pure Equal by puring it all in my mouth.

Then to top it all off the amounts of toxins created by aspartame is equal to other things that are considered harmless.

A quick rule of thumb: Everything is poisonous, it just depends on the dosage. Too much alcohol will kill you, we all know that. Tylenol (acetaminophen) can cause liver failure if you have too much at once. Aspirin will eat through the lining in your stomach if you take too many. Naproxen will cause a cardiovascular event in large doses. Approximately 41 cups of coffee has enough caffeine to kill you. Too much water will kill you.

Why don't we have any scary reports and warnings about these products? Why are they allowed on the market? Because, short of a few idiots who consume excessively they are safe in the deignated amounts.

Why did scientists do a study like this, knowing how ridiculous the amounts were? Because they got some headlines, created some scares, motivated a few special interest groups, and will probably get a grant to do more research or greenmail to make them shut up and go away.

Nuff said.

Jeez. :scared: Did this news just come out?
Uhhh, NO. This news is several years old at the very least.

The thing is, you'd almost have to an IV drip of the stuff in order to get it in cancer-causing quantities. Don't worry about it.

Wait wait...whats this about cell phone and deforming of cells??

Also, if someone points a laser pointer at your skin, does that cause cancer?
