Hey, man, that's no good. Hope they get the fires out in time. Are the fires anywhere near your house, vat_man?

No mate - I'm kind of on the junction of the inner west and the north shore, about 10k from town - mind you, if the Lane Cove National Park goes up, you'll hear some bleating!

Porko, its Menai. and thats where i live! the Alfo's fires are raging and there are ones across the river from where i am and there is a voluntary evacuation there. only 8 peeps in my class turned up tday.

Bah! An hour and a half after I post a fire starts up in the Field of Mars reserve, about four kilometres up the friggin' road - just spent of the evening cleaning the gutters, sweeping the roof and wetting everything down.

There's probably no threat, but no point taking chances - embers fly a long way.

Sheesh - it's not even Christmas....

Menai is being advised to "wait and see". Some of the suburbs around have evacuated.

I saw what was happening to you guys on the news last night.

Guys, please, run like hell if it's getting too close. I know what you Aussies can be like, but ya can't fight nature!

Good luck, your god be with you.

Slip.

How did these fires start?

1 arsonist has already been caught, something about being intellectually challenged. But the most common cause is just the sun heats everything up and it just takes one little spark, from what? I wouldnt know. But the embers can fly a long way and if they get on your roof and set the leaves in your gutter on fire, you're history.

Oh. Earlier this year we had the biggest wildfire in US history here in Arizona. It was actually two that merged into one enormous fire.

One was started by a wildfirefighter of all people, so he'd have work.

The other was started by some woman who was lost in the wilderness and started a fire to be seen. :thatsodd:

As much as the Trans-Tasman rivalry allows me to hate Australia, I must feel for them during this time, and their firefighters kick arse.
