One of the Midwest stores is scheduled to receive 3 T500's tomorrow. I'm looking at a round trip of 5 hours.

I'm still considering a GT3rsV2 with CSP. I don't care about 360 support. Fanatec's site is not showing a back order.

Which should I get? I would say that the most important factor is feel. Both are a major step above my G25. CSP's have a load cell as standard. How do they compare in FFB? Which feels more "real"? The wheel would be used mostly for GT5.

Will the GT3rs get a firmware upgrade to improve the FFB?

How long of a shipping time would it take to Michigan if ordered on a Wednesday?

Can the buttons on the GT3 be mapped to include all of the RA functions (L3 or R3 + D-pad) as well as the horn, wipers, brights, and flashing brights? Does the T500 have ALL of these functions covered?

From what I've seen T500 is a great option if you are willing to spend the extra money, but not having a manual shifter is a big disadvantage (I know they said it's coming out, but we don't know when this will happen). Are you planning to only use it for GT5 or also for other sims? Clutch implementation in GT5 is still very poor, so I don't see not having an H shifter as a con if you are not going to play other simulations.
To me the manual shifting is almost half of the whole racing experience and could not enjoy sim racing without it, so that's why I'm exposing this problem. It is probably not a problem at all for many people.

I have not tried a T500 RS, so I'll leave it to other people to make the comparison ;)

Well I don't agree with the importance of an H-shifter when playing race sims. Most of the race cars IRL have a sequential gearbox. They upshift without using the clutch and downshift using the clutch (heel and toe). Every race sim has a few cars that have a 5 or 6 speed gearbox but not many. The majority of the cars in race sims have sequential gearboxes. It's not really that hard to make your own sequential shifter.

IRL more and more cars developers are getting rid of the manual gearbox. It's just a matter of time that all the cars will have some kind of automatic gearboxes or if electric cars will become a succes, no gearboxes at all. So it's save to say that the cars in the race games will follow their real life counterparts and have no 5 - 6 - 7 manual gearboxes anymore.

For me personal, it's not that big of an issue to have an H-shifter or not. Not in real life, not ingame.

Don't let the lack of an H-shifter be the deciding factor for not getting the T500RS.

I'm also convinced that it is perfectly possible to make your own, hydraulic or not, force sensor brake pedal for the G27 or for the T500RS. If not, than it's going to be a matter of time before someone creates a load (force) sensor mod for the T500RS. So that shouldn't a deciding factor either.

Reliability and customer support should be a deciding factor. Don't forget to add the costs of your 5 our trip to the T500RS as well.

As for GT5, the T500RS is an official GT5 wheel, the GT3RS isn't!

Agreed 100% 👍 I love Touring cars and GT's and such-like and only ever use sequential shift. So, for me the clutch and 6-speed box are redundant (I'm guess I'm not that much of a 'purist' lol!)

I'm currently building a combined sequential-shifter and e-brake and will post up when they're ready. I certainly wouldn't let a lack of shifter on the T500 put me off; it looks like a damn fine wheel. For me it's the price and lack of PS3 support (backwards compatibility) that are putting me off for now. But, hopefully, that'll change soon... :)

@kikie: That's why explicitly wrote, that this might not be a problem for many people, it's just something I see as a problem ;) It probably depends on what type of shifter you are used to in real life.
And even if many cars in the future will not have manual gearboxes, games will certainly still include many cars from the past that did have manual shifters.

I really like my GT2 but honestly the feeback in GT5 is almost non existent.

You can ram directly into a wall sometimes and nothing happens. I've also found that when you spin out it doesn't give you the full lock to lock type spin of the wheel that you get with a wheel like a G25.

If you are going to play iRacing or pc sims you might want to think of the Fanatec, but for GT5 I found the FFB to be very dissapointing compared to the G25.

I was talking to a friend about this last night and its odd as his biggest concerns with Fanatec are delivery, communication/service and not so much with the excellent products. I had the GT3 V1 and it was a fine wheel indeed and well priced.

Which one is likely to be best in performance, has increased precision and likely will have a very high quality shifter first? How much better to the average joe is their a performance advantage in the CSP to the T500 pedals? One sways with the pedals the other with precision and power but perhaps not so nice of a wheel rim. Personally Id say you will get a bigger upgrade over the G25 with the T500 and the wheel should outweigh the CSP percieved performance benefit.

The bigest concern I have with the T500 is not its build, bolts, rubber wheel etc but how many PS3 games this year from developers will support it properly and then also update it to work with the shifter more likely due in the summer.

That leaves a big question over TDU 2 and SHIFT 2, games Id love to make use of the wheel properly and support the shifter. Im not so fussed/worried with backwards compatibility if they ensure new games work right with it. At the same time I dont want to buy those new games and have to wait several months for a driver to appear. GT5 is going to wear off eventually.

Each will have their advantages and it depends as a user what appeals more to you...
However for GT5 specific players it has to be the T500 RS as it has been announced to get updates in drivers as well.

Like Kikie says mods will also become available.
I myself have an early but working Buttkicker ABS or Throttle pedal position based vibration increasing with more pedal angle but it needs refined and proper mounting solution for the T500.

This would interest me too. But my question is, I´ve got the GT3RSV2 since 1 week now. I think I´ve got the old firmware, I´ve read about something that the FFB will be better after an FW update, can anybody confirm this?

Or maybe I already got the new FW?? Maybe Thomas can answer this?

I say T500, if you don't need 360 compatibility, and aren't sticker shocked by the price, it looks like a heck of a rig.

Why is not "both" an option!?!?
:sly:

T500RS only because I am leaning in that direction ATM!:)

whatever you buy please let us know and give us your opinions of the wheel.

Wow, no more Refund Anticipation Loans through any of the tax preparers. No T500rs for me until next week! *Thanks IRS :(

Quite right. I agree, I forgot about that. Thanks for reminding me. This makes the decision of staying with the G27 easier.

DaveTheStalker. Why won't you wait for the new Type G, uhh, things from Frex? Seems very promising.

It was hard enough to convince Mrs Stalker to let me spend $600 for this "toy", plus a Buttkicker (she actually reminded me about that). There is no way she would let me spend that kind of money for a FREX ;)

What's wrong with your G25?

I bought a GT3 RS + CSPs because my G25 was acting up - fixed my G25 & went back to using that rather than the Fanatec. Honestly each wheel has its pros & cons. The Fanatec has a more road car feel than the G25 - I prefer the G25 for F1, for other race cars & vintage cars. I can't comment on the T500.

With regard to H shifters: I really enjoy using a gated shifter even though I don't normally use the clutch, which IMO is just too tricky in GT5. At this point none of the H shifters is that great (in the case of the T500, it's non-existent), but I'd still rather H-shift than not (where appropriate).

If I were you I'd restrain my SEAS (Sim Equipment Acquisition Syndrome) & wait to see how things pan out.

At least that's what Mrs. Stalker told me to say ...

yes T500 covers all functions in GT5: RA functions, lights, wipers etc....

not sure what you mean. I have mapped all the RA functions on my T500 and have used them, so can confirm 100% that it works

DFGT users are reporting that after playing in an online lobby where the host sets restrictions TC etc.
When returning to ASpec the function no longer works.

Prior to patch 1.05 all was ok.

Maybe better staying offline lol.

For all we know, Type G wheel can be sheaper than the T500RS.
