Takes too long to get a race in

Last night me and the next door neighbour (in his house, taking turns) wanted to compete in online races to gather Cr and XP but most lobbys were just full of idiots free-running, in 2 hours we only got 3 races in, and earned about 6000Cr (came 2nd out of 10 in 1 race and didnt even get many Cr from that!)

Perhaps GT5Ps online system worked better... (when you got a race with more than 3 people in it)

Thoughts? Anyone else finding it hard to just do race after race after race with no goddam free running
 
i just started online a few days ago, a few times the race started quickly, but sometimes i've waited for over 30 min and when it started the server was disconnected, and the most i've earned was about 6.000 cr
 
I agree, and this is what matchmaking is for, as implemented in Forza 3. It keeps the online game moving along in a brisk, automated way, rather than allowing it to be bogged down by whatever stupid stuff the host wants to do in between races.

For this reason I will always prefer matchmaking to custom servers, even if it limits some options. While there are some hosts who keep things moving, a lot of them are slow, go eat dinner while their room is still running, etc. It's just annoying when you want to pop on for a few races and don't want to go through the trouble of setting up your own room.
 
The purpose of the free run mode between races is actually for qualifying for the next race.

As far as the increased credits and exp goes, bad idea IMO. Start increasing either of these and people will start doing anything possible to win races.

If people want to earn money they do it in A spec and if they do it to brag they get ignored.
Free run > Race since it locks people from the track if they join during one and if you wanna do a race just do it without forcing a race.
Use the Total time on the server as the start signal and that's that.
 
You must be kidding. One of the worst things ever implemented in a racing game was the timer (NFS SHIFT). People need time to go to the bathroom, have a smoke, refill a drink, etc... If you want races to start one after another then open up your own room.
 
My best advice.... Find a group of people you race will pretty much 100% of the time. its not easy to find a good group that matches your skill, but once you do, everyone communicates, and races start when they need to start (ie, people can go tune, smoke, pee, whatever inbetween)

The people I race with like to tune before every race. Winner of the last one picks race specs, people then fill those specs with a car, take a few test laps, tune some more maybe, then test, then race.

You have to remember, its a sim first, so some people like to make the most out of that. but there has got to be a group out there who runs quick back to back races.. just gotta look for them
 
Looking takes time

I spent 6 hours online yesterday. TWO count it TWO decent races in 6 hours. Punters arent the problem its the fact GT5 online can be described as a free for all. 85%+ of rooms are worthless garbage. Another 10% have poor restrictions. 5% are decent but are hard to find

We need GT5p like official online events in GT5.

Updated every week, these events appear in the public lobby and are marked OFFICIAL. They do not disappear when nobody is in the room.

There are 3 levels of OFFICIAL online events.

Easy - all AIDs, 10 mile races, no damage
Medium - some AIDs, 20 mile races, light damage
Hard - All assists off, 30 mile races, light damage

The events have max HP and weight restrictions . There is an automated timer that starts each race, not the host. All other settings are locked. There are 5 tracks in the loop, new track after 3 races at one track
 
Agreed, Looking takes forever!

However, I spend an hour on the computer, signed up for GTP and have some of the best online races I've had in my life, ever. If you can't find a group online in game, find one here. Look at the current setup, see if there is a group that matches your personality, otherwise, post a new thread about what you like, ask people to add you or vice versa, add them.

You'll be surprised at how fast things could improve if you spend time trying to make it better instead of complaining about it.

I'm not being a smartass, just talking from experience. I was in the same boat, now I race with the same group of people almost every night.

I like online events created here at GTP but there is a MASSIVE shortage of them. Whats going on right now? Hardly anything.

Attempts at creating events like the Caterham club, the 1.1.11.111 race, cops and robbers and even my pink slip event are shot down or drop to the bottom and die. SCANA is the most organized league at GTP but its largely ignored

Private lobbies killed GT5 online in some ways.

People only want to race their buddies dont care about events here.

Theres 5,000 people viewing the main GT5 forum only 40 viewing the GT5 lnline forum

GT5P had more interest in online events with its crummy online

OFFICIAL rooms need to happen
 
What we need is the Online Mode from GT5P. Just add "Online" on Seasonal Events. We will have races that starts instantly and filled servers all the time. On those races it would be possible to increase the winnings. Maybe even 100 000 Cr. for 5 laps on a F1-length track.
 
Have those Online event races from Prologue, but automated to start every 15 mins, and then you can log in earlier to qualify etc. Would work a bit like iRacing. This way racers are concentrated into fewer races for fuller grids.

If PD weren't cheap, they would have dedicated servers for such a task

LOL, The 1.1.1.111 Race is probably due to new year. Hey, but we did have a casual Caterham 7 club meet last night, which was great. 👍
