I Renown I
There are no pictures up that I can find (yet, anyway) but with the new sleek 360 redesign, now, all of sudden...they want to integrate Wi-Fi.

Thank you, Microsoft, for officially making me want to throw my so-called "Elite" out of the damn window.

Discuss...

EDIT: Found one.

I think it looks quite neat, much better than the PS3 slim redesign which looks very cheap. It has an Alienware kinda look to it and I'm sure the biggest consern people will have is whether its reliable and hopefully it wont have RROD's.

I'm really tempted to buy one after seeing this, would be my first 360. My 60GB PS3 really let me down only after a years odd use so it might be time to try the other side of the fence.

Robin.

I love the design, that's not the problem. The problem is it adds functionality that should have been there from the get-go; the PS3 Slim didn't add anything new, in fact, it actually took one or two features away.

I honestly want to drop this "Elite" out of my window now.

When my bro bought a 360 I wanted to laugh at how few features come as "standard".

And then I wanted to cry when I saw how expensive it was to bring it up to par.

It won't; I'm sure MS learned their lesson.

I hear the death lights will be purplish now instead of red, then fading to a total blackout. :sly:

MS Learning something? Hardly. I mean, they haven't released a non-buggy OS since XP and even that was buggy when it first came out. The original Xbox wasn't buggy because it wasn't built my Microsoft, but by Intel. And just because they've spent MILLIONS of dollars to get the system working correctly, doesn't mean they're smart enough to not repeat their mistakes. Just look at Windows. Billions of dollars at your disposal apparently means that they don't really care if they release defective products.

What does any of that have to do with the 360?

You're comparing software to hardware - that doesn't compute.

Microsoft actually makes quite good quality hardware such as Keyboards, Mice and the Zune's are quite well built so they have a reasonable track record with hardware. It just seems they dropped the ball with the original 360 because its development was so rushed. Windows 7 I have to say is not all that bad.

Now looking at it again the only odd thing is that it doesnt have a slot loading drive, slight archaic to have a disk tray.

Are there are other large images of the new 360 from different angles?, all I can find are those small leaked ones.

Robin.

Looks great.

I watched the stream on gametrailers and they had an after show interview with Aaron Greenberg where he held one up. New 360 looked very smart and compact.

The HDD is hidden behind a slide panel on the side.

I reckon anyone not sure on the 360 will buy one now if it is how it seems with good build quality and quiet operation. Others will upgrade pre Jasper units.

um...Microsoft doesn't actually build hardware. the mice and keyboards are probably built by someone else like Intel or Logitech and just have the Microsoft name slapped on them. and everyone I know who has a Zune, hates it. (one friend even commented that the progress bar looks like urine) And The Zune wasn't built by MS either, just has their name on it. Windows 7 is the best product they've released in a while, but the thing is, they stole a lot from Mac. Which is fine.

But the 360 is a testament to the mindset of MS. I mean, yeah, it was "rushed." well, not really. If you rush a product, you assume that they'll be bugs but aren't very clear on what's wrong. Microsoft, KNEW about the RROD before the system was released. And if you rush a product, generally, only some of the systems are buggy and the bugs get fixed faster. The ENTIRE initial system was plagued with the RROD. And the problem persisted until the last couple years. The problem, however, wasn't the bugs in the system (which their were) it was how the system was built. The graphics card was sandwiched between the case and something else and didn't have sufficient room to breathe nor did the system have enough cooling ability, and eventually, the graphics card melted and warped and caused the RROD and now the new error.

Hopefully, with the smaller version, however, they removed the stupid store-bought DVD player and gave it better cooling and stuff. Perhaps they took a peek at the PS3 Slim..or even the PS2 slim and figured out how actual hardware makers do things.

Not necessarily true. I know more then a couple of people who still have launch consoles that play just as well as the newer units. I would still have my launch console had it not been for my curious nature, and me wanting to mod the damn thing.

But, let's keep it on topic (the new 360, not the older ones), please. :D

I would probably still have mine if I hadnt done the same, not that it broke during the modding but red ringed after without the warranty seal :ouch:.

We got a Pro 360 + Games + Controllers for 200AUD the other week. We then bought 3 broken ones (more to come) and we will fix them and sell them to make money. I may suggest to dad that some of the money that comes out of this could be spent on an even newer 360. It certainly looks great and it would be the first time I have actually wanted one in ages.

You do realise nearly every electronic company does not make its own products so MS is not unique in that fact. Foxconn for example make loads of other peoples products and even made the PS3 (along with Asus) so to argue that MS's PC stuff is good quality because its made by someone else is silly because nearly everything electronic is made by someone else!

The companies (usually names youve never heard of) they choose to produce the products in China is the determining factor on quality so MS has good quality hardware because its made by a good quality Chinese manufacturer. The 360 was a bad design put into production.

The Zune thing is subjective but they are well built and I feel the Zune HD has an amazing interface and functionality.

Anyway back on topic, is there any word on this being bundled with Kinect?

Robin.

It looks great, except for the part that narrows down..... :odd:

I just hope my X360 don't break, so I'll never see this new model next to my TV.

On the pros & cons of X360, there is no doubt that it's had issues. Only reason I even considered X360 was due to Microsoft stepping up to the plate, offering 3-year warranty on RROD. My PS3 recently suffered from YLOD, about two & half years after purchase. It had broke under warranty once before, too. But it was heavily used compared to my X360.

What functionality does it add might I ask?

Built-in Wi-Fi. My 50 foot ethernet cord connected to my 360 bought in November would like a word with them.

Wi-Fi? Useless feature in my opinion. Wireless + online gaming = Lag. Always go with the cable. 50 foot isn't that long. The one i'm using on my laptop is 15 metres, which isn't far off :)

Is that it, or is there any other features?

Are they charging the same price or are they increasing it? I'm betting the CPU and GPU have been reduced to 45nm in the process too, which makes it cheaper for them to make... I bet they'll charge more than the current models, because they're Microsoft.

My having to disable the phone to bring the gateway into my room to play online would like a word as well.

And, yes, I am too cheap to buy that adapter. I'm not paying 80 additional bucks for something that should have been integrated since November of '05.

It will be the same price as the current 120 GB Elite package: $299 US, available at the end of the week here, June 16th in the UK for £199. All things considered, Microsoft is giving us a pretty decent deal with it, and presumably there will be discounts on the current hardware as well. They should, because they aren't making any more of the current 360s. This is it, presumably until the next one comes out.

So, built-in WiFi, a bigger HDD, more USB ports (now up to five total), a special port for the Kinect motion controller as well as the typical A/V and HDMI cables. The power button is a new touch-sensitive setup, as is the disc tray, which apparently all operate a bit more smoothly as well. Best of all, the thing is quiet. Because no one wants to have the sound of an M1 Abrams under their TV anymore...

[EDIT]
Will I Buy One?

Probably. While currently considering buying a new HDD, I realize that I'm more than halfway to the new unit, so I'd rather go the distance. Furthermore, it gives us an extra 360 for when I end up moving out, so that my Mom and my Brother can continue playing their games after I leave.

Wi-Fi, 250GB HD, 5 USB and run quieter (we'll have to wait and see on that)

It is less about the length, and more about the running it and drilling holes in the walls. My entire living room is wireless, with the exception of my 360.

Don't bet on too much, as those come with two games in the box. I haven't heard of the new one does.

Here are the details for those interested.

Cool design, but unless I can use my G25 and they have a free online gameplay option for COD, etc., I'd rather not waste my time and money. Neither of which will ever happen since they are too greedy; they don't give me what I want, I won't give them what they want. But it sounds like they added some much needed additions [cough]finally[/cough] so if anyone is on the fence about getting one, now would seem to be a good time 👍

Technically, online gameplay is free. Weigh the positives with the negatives, and you'll notice that $49.99/year is very, very cheap for what Xbox Live offers. Hell, even with Silver you get almost all of the same things..but for the premium (and the additional features that come along with it) it's definitely worth it.

There's a reason Live is what it is.

i dont care what it looks like as both my ps3 and x360 are hidden by a 19 and 22 inch monitor :D

Your Elite is obsolete....... The slim PS3 does look cheap, thats how they save money. MS clearly used the money they saved on the chipset to avoid dropping the price.

That how they are able to buy up pointless exclusive deals like the CoD deal and GTA Episodes. Those deals are not system sellers imo..

I have a Forza faceplate on mine, so I do care.

I just saw the Microsoft video on this on Xbox Live, and yes, I guess it is $299........ Where is the Blu-ray player, man? :D I thought for sure, it would be $250, tops. With additional $50 going towards XBL subscription, it is still overpriced IMO.

To some people, it is, and Microsoft is willing to make that gamble by buying up the exclusive rights. There are franchises that I would switch platforms for due to exclusivity. It all depends on what you like and what you're willing to pay for.

You've gotta separate what your preferences are and what would probably be that of the "average consumer."

Frankly, I think it looks ugly. Or at least goofy. But then, MS is the company that thinks Miis are cool. *gags*

Considering I don't find anything appealing about the MS game library, I'm just peeking in to confirm that there's still nothing to see in MS land and moving along.
