Well, me and my friends want to do the 24 Hours of Le Mans Le Mans Style. This means each driver will do about 2 Hour Stints Each, and will eventually get 8 Hours behind the wheel. We will be taking turns sleeping while the other drivers race. The problem we have is the other two drivers have only had NFS experience. This means they like to floor it, and never look back. Worst part is one can't even drive with Paddles Shifts, and I'm the only one with real world experience. That real world experience is about 5 total hours of driving a Mazda Miata in a parking lot, and I'm not the greatest teacher ever, so I'll need your guy's help training them.

We have the start planned in about the next five or six weeks. The time in between that will be us training for the race. Things like getting our arms into better shape, because lets face it, they'll be hurting after the race, and we can't really have that effect lap times. We'll also be trying to stay up later and later. The elephant in the corner however is getting them to drive a clean lap, in any car. I started them out in a Nissan GTR, which let's face it, is pretty controllable, yet they managed to spin it out in places where I don't think can be possible, as well as flip the car! The problem I saw is that they were either not braking at all, or they were only braking just before the turn, then yanking the wheel. into the turn, causing massive understeer. Not only am I afraid they'll destroy the chances of winning the race, but also my wheel. They're very aggressive with it, and no matter how many times I tell them it's about calm and ease, but they don't understand.

So GTP, I'm asking you to help me try and teach my friends how to drive. I'm also planning to take them Go-Karting to help them a little bit, but in the virtual world, I'll need some teachers to teach me how to teach other drivers. I thank you for the help in advance! It'll really benefit me, and my friends too!

Are you talkin about driven 24 hours 4 real or in the game I'm confused

So I'm guessing you're all under drivers licence age?
Start with a slow car and build up to faster ones. Leave the assists on for now.

Can you just make some new friends? Might be easier.... :-)

Nope, the one in game.

Yes, none of us have License's yet, though I am a fairly experienced GT player.

Hmm, I see your logic, might need to get to know Lucas Ordonez, I've heard he has a little real world experience.

What happened to the days of kids getting together to play football, or paintball, or chase some females? Now its about planning a sleep order for a game? Times have changed...

When I first started racing games, I used to floor the throttle all the time.

I think you need to introduce the shifting weight of the car initially.

I would give them a heavy car, maybe a mustang, and get them to compete against each other for fastest lap.

A good track for testing for me is Deep Forest....short lap, but all the main bits are there.

Once they understand that controlling the weight of the car moving around is the most enjoyable bit, then the rest will follow.

Le Mans is a difficult circuit at the best of times, one of the toughest in the game. It's not one I would start with.

Great idea though.....keep us informed on how it goes!

Just give them a bunch of seat time and teach them the basics man. IMO seat time is the best learning technique considering I had no clue how to drive a car, much less use a stick shift but now I'm doing it without a hitch and no one was there to help me along the way so they should do just fine with your help.

Maybe you could try to run them through the licence tests too.

Are they going to drive without skid recovery, active steering, TCS, ASM? And with manual transmission?

Have them do the GT5 License Test. And, don't just do them, READ them.

As always the license tests are a good place to force correct driving habits. However, its important to do them in order, like the game forces you to the first time you go through them. Skipping the ones which are difficult is not the idea. If they follow the driving line maybe they'll brake earlier too.

IMO its better to learn to drive in a miata like you did than in a high-powered GTR like your friends are trying to do. If you give them a NFS type car, of course they will revert to the same NFS driving style.

amen bro

Many people still do, including me but just because someone is planning to a 24HR race doesn't mean they don't do that "normal" stuff. I'm not trying to attack you but you don't really know him and his friends man.

Eh, we plan those kind of things for Fridays! :sly: You know, go to the Pizzaria, get some Ice Cream. That's stuff!

I KNOW RIGHT? What's happened.

Lmao that was funny very true

Thank you! I don't know why a bunch of people are attacking me all of the sudden.

I can tell you that me and my friends all go to town with our bikes and money and buy ourselves dinner. Then after that we go to one of our houses and hang for the weekends. I know Vaxxtx was just making a joke, but people are taking it like it was serious or something, so please, before you make these remarks, get to know us first.

I am sure u guys gonna have a roaring good time. With work n baby to care, those days of bunking over for a 24 hrs game fest is difficult to come by. Teach over them on license tests. I am trying nfs hot pursuit recently and sometimes takes more than 1 try to get distinction for the time trial. So I am guessing that they can pick up the driving quite quickly except for the manual transmission. setting it auto and driving line on probably helps. Have fun :)

For an experienced driver Le Mans may be a relatively easy track, for the unexperienced driver the track counts numerous places where you can outbrake yourself or clip the grass and spin out.

The thing I would try to convince your friends of is to focus on not making mistakes, instead of trying to drive as fast you can. You might also need to put on all the aids and use automatic transmission to have some sort of a chance...
Don't want to demotivate you, but I also helped one of my friends with his game and he has the same mentality as your friends. After a while controlling the car went ok on a clear track, but as soon as he got into traffic he instantly made the wrong decisions and either crashed into the wall, span or got stuck in the dirt. No chance at all to win the race then...

Good luck, you brave man ;)

Use a slower car until everyone is comfortable with the track, the controls, and the driver aids you will all be using.

It might be boring, but try a Miata or S2000 at first on Racing Soft tires.

Set up a short race where you each get 2 or 3 laps in turns. Run through it a few times until everyone is comfortable. Make sure everyone can find pit entrance in the dark too.

Could you not take them on split screen and choose a faster car but just stay ahead and have them follow your lines and braking points? That's how I teach my wife.

Have them follow the AI around the track and not passing. Just following the other cars. Maybe have them try the NASCAR challenges drafting. Staying in line behind another car is not an easy thing to do, even for experienced drivers.

Question. Who keeps the prize car should the team win?:)
Seriously nice idea hope it goes well

I'm thinking of documenting the whole thing when we get around to do it in the Race Reports Section. I'm probably going to have them over again in the weekends, and will do the license tests with them.

im not to sure these guys are going to be able to keep up with the ai.. Leat alone follow them! I think you need aim at doing the mx5 endurance race 1st.. Gota walk befor you can run!

I did this with a shorter endurance race, after gritting my teeth watching my inexperienced friend attempt to smash my pedals to bits I took over and just before I got to the last 3 laps I had a good lead so I thought I would let him take it home. He proceeded to somehow click the exit button with the gas pedal :(
Be VERY careful this doesnt happen to you buddy. I will miss my friend :)
