There are three launches today, the first of which is the Lotus TL11. In fact, the launch is just over five hours away - 5am GMT, which coincides with the middle of the afternoon in Malaysia. So, here's the discussion thread for the TL11. I'll get around to making the other two shortly.

Site is down, lol.
Downforeveryoneorjustme confirms it.

Honestly, I wonder if it's *ahemhiredahem* hackers or ddos... you know...

Live launch isn't working but they have a back up pdf showing the car. Think lotus needs to get best livery for 2011!

Nice. I like the front wing, also that they put numbers on the mid-car sideplates this year, last year it was question marks, lol.

Last year's started out as "LR8", which was an energy drink called "Lotus Racing 8" and may have actually been the cause of the falling out with Lotus Cars, who claim that Lotus Racing violated their licence over some merchandise. Apparently they weren't allowed to use the Lotus name outside the team. It may be possible that Lotus Cars objected to the development of LR8 - even if it was only to be sold through the team (though it never hit the market in any way) - prompting them to withdraw. The LR8 changed to a question mark late in the season, which may well have been a response to Lotus Cars' objections.

Interesting that Team Lotus have managed to make a MGP W01-style roll bar, despite the fact that the FIA attempted to ban them. Good on 'em.

It really does look good! I can't wait to see it in action... Shame about the LR8 though. I still have a can left with me, just for display.

They can use it because it's thicker than the Mercedes design. I think the two air intakes are also mounted higher and further forward than on the W01. They look sturdier and wider, too.

The midship part of the car looks insane, what is going on under the sidepods?!? For the rest though, it seems we have to wait until testing proper before we can see the full design (the diffuser hasn't even been attached in that factory photo!).

Looks nice and a proper step forward for the team... Hope it will help Heikki to keep rebuilding his reputation. Gascoine and his team have done a great job.

Since last years car was awesome this one looks fantastic even if basically the same.

Someone needs to be told that they haven't matched the colours exactly right around the sponsors stickers to the bodywork.

Seems like the first day of Lotus testing wasn't that good.. However, I'm confused of what's this:

Hekki Kovalainen was at the wheel of the new car, which certainly looks the business but was clearly struggling with some teething problems.

What's ''teething problems'' ? I once heard that in the BMW Sauber F1.08...

Teething problems. It's an English expression. Basically, when a child first starts to grow teeth, it can be a little bit painful. It's known as having teethin problems. So to use it in context, teething problems are difficulties faced in the early stages of a project's development. The T128 has evidently had a few issues with running smoothly to begin with.

Still problems with the power steering, will probably be only able to fix overnight. Continuing with system checks etc

Seems like it is having some problems running in, hopefully not more horrible hydraulic problems in the steering for them.

Thanks for the explanation interludes! 👍

So I guess the ''teething problems'' is the power steering. It's a new car, always have early problems... Found some cool pictures of the car.
