Tell me my fast Lancia S4 time at Nurburgring is actually slow

The S4 is undoubtedly my favourite car in PSP so far. There are other cars that accelerate as brutally as this one but none seem to give anywhere near the same exhilaration visually and audibly for me.

I have spent much of the past few weeks battering it round the Nurburgring and am pleased with the best time I can get, 7:01 on standard physics, this despite it spending long periods of the lap hamstrung by the short gearing and the top speed of 156mph. I'm pretty convinced that sub 7 minutes is imminent.

Now someone will probably tell me they can wallop 20 seconds off this but would be interested to know so I can gauge how much there is left to get out of it.

Incidentally I find the S4 considerably faster and more manageable than its sister Group B car, the Peugeot 205 T16 Evo 2. Yet to buy the high powered Ford RS200 to compare that one. I'm also hoping that with GT5 having greater tuning options that you'll be able to tune up the S4 closer to its real life threshold of 650bhp rather than the 449bhp in the PSP version.

I can't try it for myself right now because the last car I need in the entire game is in the dealerships (the Peugeot 205 rally car actually)... and I'm on an even day 50,000cr short. So I have to get the money in ad hoc or it will tick over to the new dealers and I'll have to go a full 70 day cycle before it comes up again. After I get that car I'll try and let you know.

And don't feel bad about using standard physics. I hardly ever use pro physics on PSP. When you're only options are 100% throttle, 100% brake, 100% left or 100% right I think using std physics is fair.

The Nubb 👍

But As far as throttle goes, its TCS or rapid fire X tapping.

I've never touched the standard physics, it's been on pro since the beginning of time. TCS is always at 3, which is enough to stop the wheels from going into a spinning frenzy but the cars are all still hard to drive, as stability control and everything else is off.

I think std physics is way too easy, even with all aids off. Pro on the other hand is very, very hard with all aids off. So I prefer pro physics with some aids on, it's like creating a level of difficulty between std and pro.

I find pro physics easy in slower cars but quite hard in cars like the R92CP or other le mans cars.

If you used standard physics its not a fast lap.

Not true at all. Standard allows for much faster lap times than pro, given all driving assists are turned off in each instance. On a short track like Tsukuba, standard is good for a full second over pro. The major difference is grip. Standard allows for sharper turn-in, shorter braking distances, and faster corner exits.

I'm not defending the use of standard physics at all--I feel it takes away from the "simulation" aspect of the game 100%. But to say using standard physics means the lap is not fast... well, that's just silly.

Whatever, unless you have full control of the car like you would in GT4, GT5P and the future upcoming GT5, Standard Physics is okay to use. I only touch Professional Physics on GT5P and Drift trial on GTPSP. And Why do you ask, because it is on a portable game system. Who are you trying to impress anyways?
Apart from all that, Your time on the 'Ring with the S4 is fine, i can't seem to get close to that at all, Unless I use the Veyron then my time would be 5:59.xxx or so.

the best time I can get, 7:01 on standard physics,

I used R1/R1, std physics and all aids off and got 7:09 on a sloppy lap from a standstill (1 lap S-level race.) So your time seems decent to me.

That little joy-stick nub on the PSP? Mine is definitely still 100% left or right as soon as you touch it. Do newer PSP's have true analogue nubs? I'm using the original PSP and it seems these things had the bad habit of going obsolete...

OK, on the topic of old rally cars, has anyone ever tried to drive the Renault 5 Turbo rally car on a dirt track? Terrible. It's the worst car I've ever driven in GT since the Elise GT1 race car in GT2. Altohugh the Elise could be fixed with the stability control mod.

Yes the R5 Turbo Rally is not easy to drive. Not even satisfying. But it looks great 8)

Yea I read in the 5's vehicle info, they mention it suffered a major disadvantage on unpaved roads so it was only used in tarmac events... why the heck is it a rally car then!?!? hah
