On the OPM disc this month, the Track GT4 is about the making of the game. This video had two very interesting didbits in it.

First of all, Kazunori Yamauchi himself said, "The reason we collect data is not because without it would couldn't make the game, but rather to confirm the accuracy of the cars we built in the studio." (this might not be exact, but it's as close as I'm gonna get). Now, ovbiously, they have to collect data to make the game cars, but my interpretation of that quote is that he is refering to the testing session data. What I think this means is, they have the cars in the studio to record engine sounds, weight distribution, and all that other stuff, and the data they collect from track testing sessions is for confirmation.

Why did I find this interesting? Well, remember the Ferrari/Porsche videos & photos on the Prologue PAL disc? If Polyphony was doing track testing of these cars, wouldn't that imply that they've already made the GT4 versions, and are testing the accuracy of them? I don't know for sure, but I have a hunch that that's the case.

The other interesting thing I noted was, while they were discussing recording sound on the video, they showed a clip of a Polyphony guy recording the horn sound of a Vanquish.

Thats cool, I hope its true, but, who know, and finally I get to honk my horn at someone who cuts me off in gt4, if the horn button is in the game..

They didnt have the Ferraris at a data gathering track test day.
The Ferraris in the video were part of a schooling day, where they ran a skid pan, and gymkhana.
However some modified Porsches, could br RUFs were shown at the Data gathering track day.

They use the track test days to check that the model/ handling of the real world cars matches that of there ingame counterparts.
They also did some timed runs so they could compare real world times with ingame.

Don't forget, PD gathered data for GT5, and not just for GT4.

But they're not doing track test data for GT5 (or are they?), since they have nothing to comapre it to (or do they?).

And GTX, why would they put "schooling videos" of cars that aren't in GT4 on the Prologue disc!?

None of this situation makes any sense to me. Their words say "no," but their actions say "yes."

The schooling part of the video, shows PD staff getting to grips with the laws of Physics, and how cars react in situations, Its in the making of driver video, its part of the effort they went to to learn about handling so they could make the game better.
There were a wide variety of cars at this day, the fact that some were ferraris doesnt indicate anything, they did not take any data readings from cars on this day, they were just taught about driving cars hard.

I'd say they'd already have heaps of data on Ferrari and Porsche.Whether It's to be included in GT4 or GT5,time will tell.

I just hope that I'll be able to race my carrera GT on the ring...
