Yea so I'm at school, and we have this gay censor proxy or something that won't let you go to GTP. So anyways, now im using this proxy tunnel to go to sites I wanna go to. Finally......

Yea so, this one site said that in some countrys, proxy tunnels are really illegal. Are they legal in the good ol' USA?

I would say so as it is by-passing the proxy, which is for restriction. And because the school is actually classed as a business, you are violating some sort of business law for sure. But who cares, "What Momma don't know, can't hurt her."

ERRRRRR - Wrong!

Proxies are not illegal in the United States. They can only be "against the rules". The local, State, and Federal goverments have no control over internet usage on our soil.

Also, public schools are not a business. If they were trying to make money A) they would charge you to go there, B) they wouldn't be so crappy.

I do Business Studies, apprantly schools are, in some respects, classed as a business. And I didn't say that they were illegal, I'm just saying they probably are.

I would say so
See?

But I just said that "I would say so" because I'm pretty sure it's illegal here.

I was using e-messenger.net to contact my friends in the computer lab when we weren't aloud to talk.

proxies are illegal to use in countries where all internet access is routed through government controlled proxies in order to filter out content that they don't want you to see. Either way, people use them anyways so it doesn't matter.

Heh, our school uses BESS, which is this faggot dog thing that ends up blocking 8/10 websites, almost at random. Ive used proxy tunnels a few times, but they got banned recently and when I do I feel like someones monitoring my account. So Ill just use a guest account and not log into any websites. I think its pretty safe, Ive only been caught once. I went to *god forbid* a Ferrari related site.

Woah, I used the word 'our' instead of 'mine' in my first sentence here. Maybe Im crazy! :0

Our school doesn't care. You could put an instant messenger on the computer and they wouldn't care. They might uninstall it when your done, but they won't yell at you.

My school uses DeepFreeze, which mirrors a specific image on the "admin" computer whenever the computers are restarted.

Ahh I see now. Thanks eMadness! 👍

My school doesn't care too much about most things, but they've blocked out "inappropriate sites" (like Porn and sites like Ogrish, etc). I don't mind about the Porn, there's no point really looking at it at school, but Ogrish...:(

We had the stupidest blockers back in high school. They'd let you go to a site like Newgrounds, with all of it's expicit porn ads and vulgar cartoons and all, but block a site like GTP or Gamespy.

Yeah my school used to be like that, too. I never understood, btu I wasn't on GTP at the time, and New Grounds was in, so I didn't question it!

If you take a deliberate act to circumvent a control that is being placed on you, then you can't expect to be leniently treated if/when you get caught.

Sure as eggs is eggs, the firewall will have noted a large amount of traffic going through the tunnel, and someone will check it out soon enough.

Anyway, this is off to the Computing forum.
