Well, the lines are closed, the votes have been counted, and now, here are the results of the 3rd Annual Formula 1 Awards, host by me, Bee, voted by you, GTPlanet!

So lets crack on with the results! First award, Best Start to a Race. This is awarded to the driver who catapulted off the line in a GP this year, it can be any driver, at any GP. Again, here are the finalists!

Hamilton at the Australian GP
Raikkonen also at the Australian GP
Winklehock at the European GP
Raikkonen at the Monaco GP

And the winner is... Marcus Winklehock! Who's amazing start at the rain-soaked Nurburgring saw him in the lead of the race by Lap 3! I'm sure both he and Spyker will be happy with the award.

Next up, Best Overtaking Manoeuver. This is given to that one moment of racecraft genius, the one moment that driver won over a number of fans. Here are the finalists!

Hamilton on Raikkonen at the Italian GP
Sato on Alonso at the Canadian GP
Heidfeld on Alonso at the Bahrain GP
Hamilton on Barrichello at the Brazilian GP

And the winner is... Takuma Sato! The Japanese has certainly cleaned up his act since he start at Super Aguri, but his overtaking ability is as impressive as ever. In this instance taking the Double World Champ, around the outside, into the final chicane. Amazing.

Taku is also included in our next award, Most Improved Driver which is awarded to the one driver who, from 2006 has improved so much it's be known that they have been questioned wether they are infact a half-cyborg nowdays, here are the finalists:

Nick Heidfeld
Nico Rosberg
Robert Kubica
Takuma Sato

And the winner is... Nico Rosberg! With the Williams team offering a substancial improvement over their 2006 car, Nico has stepped up to the plate and has delivered some inspiring perfomances, including a 4th in the final race at Brazil. Here's to Nico improving even more for 2008!

Ok, following in the same fashion, next up is Most Improved Team, which, like the award before, is presented to the one team who have given their drivers a dream ride following a car wreck last year. Here are the finalists:

BMW Sauber
Super Aguri
Scuderia Toro Rosso
Williams

And the winner is... BMW Sauber! Yes the swiss team have come on leaps and bounds, securing a very solid 2nd in the Construcutors after an incredibly consistant season seeing them score over 100 points. Hopes and expectations must be high for next season.

Next one is for the new boys, Best Rookie Performance. This is awarded to the one Rookie who has exceeded all expectations this season. The finalists are..

Lewis Hamilton
Sebastian Vettel
Adrian Sutil
Heikki Kovalinen

And the winner is (By a massive margin..)... Lewis Hamilton! The boy-wonder suprised everyone with his raw speed and incredible control. His season fell apart towards the end but he must be considered one of the early favourites for next season.

Following the trend of Rookies, the next award is Most Promising Rookie which is awarded to the Rookie who has shown flashes of brilliance now and again. A guy who you can easially see as a future world champ. The finalists are:

Lewis Hamilton
Sebastian Vettel
Adrian Sutil
Heikki Kovalinen

And the winner is... Well, I should say winners as both Lewis Hamilton and Sebastian Vette both received the same amount of votes. So if them two do not duke it out come 2011, I'll eat my hat for you, GTP!

Now we are going to award the one performance that put a guy on the F1 radar. This award is Best Single Race Performance. The finalists are:

Vettel at the Chinese GP
Kovalainen at the Japanese GP
Hamilton at the Canadian GP
Raikkonen at the Australian GP

And the winner is... Again it's a tie! This time the award is shared between Heikki Kovalainen and Sebastian Vettel (Well, two halves make a whole I guess..). Heikki's Japanese Grand Prix was the highlight of his season. Finishing a brilliant second in adverse conditions whilst holding back Kimi Raikkonen's Ferrari. Then Sebastian's Chinese Grand Prix made up for his brain fart in Japan by taking Toro Rosso's highest finish of the season in 4th, and he took it on pure pace to match.

For the next award, we look to the future, the Team to Watch in '08 award recognises the team we expect to do exceptionaly well next season, here are the finalists:

BMW Sauber
Scuderia Toro Rosso
McLaren Mercedes
Renault

And the winner is... BMW Sauber! Yep they take home their second award of the night, with their 2007 car the base for 2008, you'd expect atleast consistant podiums next season and with two very solid drivers in Heidfeld and Kubica, they should deliver!

Ok, up next is Best Race of the Year. This is for the race that had it all: Drama, great racing, utter chaos and in the end, a fantastic winner. The countries we have to thank for keeping us on the edge of our seats for a sunday afternoon are:

Japanese GP
Brazilian GP
Canadian GP
European GP

And the winner is... Brazil! The race itself will always be remembered for one of two things, Hamilton losing the title and Raikkonen winning the title (Depending on if you live in the UK or not I guess..) Either way it had brilliant racing, as seen by Rosberg and Kubica's ding dong, controversey via BMW Sauber and Williams' fuel irregularites and a worthy winner in Kimi Raikkonen.

The next award is more of a anti-award, Biggest Dissapointment of '07 singles out the worst moment of the season and hopefully chucks it in a neuclear reactor, never to be seen again. The finalists are:

The Spy Scandal
Fernando Alonso's Team Tactics
Honda's Lack of Pace
Hamilton's Chinese GP Exit

And the Anti-Winner is... Well, it's a given really, isn't it? The Spy Scandal! Yes, for the majority of the summer, this story overshadowed the on track racing and we thank Nigel Stepney and Mike Coughlan for being Grade A Numpteys.

Right back onto a positive note now and we're getting int othe big awards now, starting off with Best Team of the Year. This goes to the one team that stood head and shoulders above the rest, the finalists are:

McLaren Mercedes
BMW Sauber
Ferrari
Williams

And the winner is... BMW Sauber! They've done it again! Although this one did throw me, I guess you can say they kept their noses out of trouble by deciding not to send James Bond to a rival team, nor did they infact make any media presentation of any intrest all year... I guess we can thank them for making a strong enough car to handle 75g's in the hands of a polish version of the Terminator.. (Kubicator perhaps?)

And now for the Driver's biggest award, they all want to win this, even if your Sakon Yanamoto.. The Best Driver of the Year awards the one driver who looks down at all overs like a Driving God... And then pulls a mooney. The finalists are:

Lewis Hamilton
Nick Heidfeld
Nico Rosberg
Kimi Raikkonen

And the winner is... Kimi Raikkonen! At long last the Iceman took the title with a simply amazing second half to the season which saw a run of 7 podiums, including 3 wins. The gods shined on him at Interlagos and now he can celebrate like any Finn knows how, in a gorilla suit.

Ok, onto the last two, we'll start with the one award everyone tried to avoid like the black plague, the Villain of '07, which recognises the biggest Numptey in Formula 1, the finalists are:

Fernando Alonso
Nigel Stepney/Mike Cloughlan Double Act
Max Mosely
Ralf Schumacher

And the winner is... Well, I think we're gonna have to rename this award after him, for the 3rd year in succession... Max Mosely! There isn't really much to say except sir, you are a fool.

And now, we are finally down to the last award, it's been a long journey for me and I do get quite emotional at times like these, so, before my make up runs and Laura shouts at me anymore, let's present the Hero of '07 award! This goes to the one person who can be affiliated with Formula 1 any way. The one person who has touched our hearts and filled it with joy and happiness, ok really? It's a popularity contest, so, the Jock- I mean finalists are:

Kimi Raikkonen
Lewis Hamilton
Ron Dennis
Sir Jackie Stewart

And the final winner of the night is.. Kimi Raikkonen! The Finn doubles his tally for the night and is confirmed as GTP numero uno Hero of 2007. The monotone-talking, Schumi-loving (?), lean, mean, engine braking (Not quite this year, I know.) machine truly is, Number 1.

And so there we have it, next year I'll probably be replaced by some new hotshot who thought they'd try to beat me to the punch by opening the nominations this December. I hope you've enjoyed this as much as I take intrest in how you all think fo the truly brilliant year that has gone by. I've been your host/vote counter/organiser Bee and you've been classy, GTP.

'Till next year!
:)

People, you know Heidfeld overtaking Alonso in Bahrain was pure brilliance, why deny the bearded man an award? WHY!?

Great job Lee. 👍

That pretty much sums up the F1 forums this year, haha!

Ha, I'd completely forgotten about Winklehock's Nurburgring lead, I was probably still in shock about that one lol

No surprise about the Villain though, nice work on the awards once more.

Bee, that was a wonderful presentation for the awards!!! Gotta need to +rep this! 👍 Well about the tie, can't we have a tie breaker or something? I mean its just unfair to share the award (is it not?) I also noticed that Max Mosley is been awarded the "villain of the year" for 3 years straight!

Well i want to know, who is this hotshot your talking about? I know your pretty good at doing this than anyone else :D Cheers mate on this years GTP Annual F1 Awards!!!

Thanks everyone, glad you enjoyed the presentation! :)

Yeah, 3 nominations, no award. The beard has obviously had an effect here..

Well, Vettel did get two halves so he can be happy, I can understand Heikki's displeasure though..

3 years has taken it's toll, I need a fresh boost of Botox to keep my youthful appearence and Laura hates the late nights..

Schumi-loving? Based on what I've seen they were quite friendly when Schumi was still racing (not counting Kimi's Brazil '06 comment), but I don't think they have had any (public) interractions this year.

It was a play on when Schumi often turned up during the winter testing and throughout the first few races of the season. :) It's rumoured Kimi wasn't too fond of the idea, hence the question mark.

I believe that was tongue in cheek ;) Kimi excelled when Michael stopped dropping by to visit. Yes, I know there were other factors, we've all heard about the TCS dramas.

I think Sato on Alonso won for shock value as well as the brilliance of the pass (which is pretty much undeniable) but I still liked Heidfeld's better.

I also think giving Lewis Hamilton the 'Most Promising Rookie' award is redundant, I don't think he even should have been on the list because he basically proved he's not a rookie (he choked at the end of the season, well come on, I can remember Prost and Mansell doing that). He managed to show flashes of brilliance for about 15 straight races, it would have bee enough to win the championship before about 2001.

Nice work Bee.

Awesome, Lee.

Anyone who didn't vote for Toro Rosso is a communist.

Nick's pass on Alosno will always stay with me because I was there on the track :D:D

Well I suppose the prizes went quite right... Somehow I think though that like said before Hamilton isn't a promising rookie. In my opinion it's promising if you do just fine in the series (like Heikki and Sebastian), but if you go to win four races during your rookie season, you're just a pure talent. Hard to explain what I mean, but I think Vettel or Heikki should've won that. And the best team was shocker as well. I thought the best team was Ferrari by far. They had the fastest car overall, and as a proof of that there's the drivers championship. I'm not taking anything away from BMW, but I think they weren't better that Ferrari, period.
Overall the list looks good. Great job Bee! 👍

They had the fastest car overall, and as a proof of that there's the drivers championship.

Umm... With both championships won by single points, I fail to see why the Ferrari was the fastest overall.

It clearly lacked speed on quite a few circuits, while dominating on others. Blake pointed this out - the Ferrari had more aerodynamic downforce, and therefore dominated smooth circuits, but it became nill on bumpy tracks requiring heavy use of the kerbs. And they did have a slump in performance when their rolling-road tunnel broke down.

And they did have a slump in performance when their rolling-road tunnel broke down.

Because of their lack of maintenance… if they were the best team this season they would have kept a better check in their equipment.

And you just couldn’t give McLaren the best team award after everything that happened this season. They couldn’t manage their drivers or engineers, apparently.

IMO BMW deserves it the most. They’ve made massive progress this season, they haven’t made mistakes, and they’ve just put their head down and got on with what’s important: racing.

Exactly. They were miles ahead of the others throughout most of the season, even beating Ferrari at Canada, and if I'm not mistaken, always had a car in Q3 and in the points.

Just like Raikkonen deserves the Driver's award, IMO, not only for a championship drive, but also for pure racing, without all the fuss around it.
