I know it's tomorrow for you people in the U.S. (including me), but I figured i would make this thread to honor those people who risked their lives to protect us and for what they believed in.

GOD BLESS AMERICA!

By the way, if any of your relatives fought in WWII you can tell who it was and what branch of the military it was.

I would also like to thank our troops in Iraq for what they are doing now, defending our country for terrorism.

GO U.S.A.!

My maternal grandfather was a Staff Sergeant, and my paternal was some kind of infantryman. He, like, shot Japanese people. I think my grandmother's newest husband was, too.

America owns you.

My Grandfather's brother was in the Canadian Army for the duration of WWII, and my mom's uncle was a Guerilla fighter in Poland, fighting against the Soviets (to the best of my knowledge).

It's still Saturday here, so tomorrow, I hope that all the members of GTP will take a moment tomorrow to reflect and appreciate the brave men who fought in Normandy, and in the whole war in general. Their courage and bravery should never be forgotten!

No one in my family was is WWII, but my grandpa on my dad's side was in the forgotten war, the Korean Conflict.

So this is an "America won the war on their own" thread, is it?

Looks like it.

Where's Tom Hanks and Mel Gibson when you need them?

No, without England we would have been****ed. No place to send off the b 17s and b 24s, no place to send D-Day from, I see it as America and England were equally important.

Tom Hanks is living in an airport.
Mel Gibson is rolling in bloody cash.

What did you want Tom for, wasn't he a big proponent for that stinking hideous memorial?

what about canada? last time i checked they has as big of a role as england and france...at the beginning of the war they had pretty much no army but by the end of the war they had the 3rd strongest or something like that...canada attacked dieppe which helped relieve the pressure on the soviets and played an enormous role in the battle of britain

The US, UK, Canada, France, and Russia all had big roles to play in WWII.

Im learning about both world wars currently in history class, and it amazes me at how little I actually knew about these events.
Canada with a big Military.....and look at us now.

we just learned about it last semester...canada had really big roles...the funny thing was that how fast canada's military grew...it was basically all volunteers...canada never had a draft...actually i think it did but all those who were drafted were only drafted to homeland security...and this wasnt looked upon very highly, and thus people were encouraged to volunteer...

i dont remember the numbers but i think they had something like 3 thousand soldiers before wwII and like half a million or more by the time it was over or something like that

canada's army grew very quickly in both wars...canada captured vimy ridge in wwI...something that britain and france both failed at doing, but canada was able to do it

Canada gained more ground in those 4 days and captured more prisoners/weapons than the brits did the last 2 and a half years at vimy ridge!!

My maternal grandfather was at a desk in Rome. My other one was bombing Germany as a navigator on a B17. D-Day is the day. Utterly astounding what they accomplished on that day and the days that followed.
