- Today, while I was browsing through the US Store, for apps, the "PS2 System Data" came up. Now, I downloaded the file, (only 7 MB), and I began to wonder, if;
  • Is it, at all possible to play the old PS2-discs on the 320 GB-version of the PS3 system?
  • Have someone tried, to play, the PS2-discs with this "upgrade"? - With or without any luck?

- I have tried inserting a PS2 disc, before I downloaded this "upgrade", without luck. But I have given all of my discs away, so I won't be able to find out, if this'll work, by myself, in the nearest future, so any help's welcome.

Only some of the fat PS3s have PS2-disc compatibility. Sony keeps the 'PS2 Data' thing because it's cheaper to have the same firmware in all PS3s as opposed to deleting it on the slims and keeping it on the older ones.

I'm not too sure, but I think PS2 games bought from the PSN are saved in there.

PS2 Data Utility was something put up on the PS Store so PS2 games with online functionality and/or PS2 games that used the PS2 hard drive would be able to work properly. It is, I'm pretty sure, completely useless for systems made that don't have PS2 disc compatibility.
