I know there are trolls in every video game forum, heck every forum. Youtube is like the pantheon of trolls and troll bait.

This is not another troll thread and I do ask people try to keep this mature.

I was cruising youtube watching some videos and I came across one of those copy paste guys that spends all day ctrl+C and ctrl+V comments badmouthing video games he doesn't like.

Whatever I know some people get paid to do this and I generally ignore it but out of sheer curiosity I clicked on his youtube page and well... see for yourself:

http://www.youtube.com/user/hfxgtxgtdfhtxzh

Is someone really so insecure about a video game that presumably they had no part in creating but simply bought? Or is this simply someone who has been paid to spend all day trashing competitors offerings?

More importantly Has "branding" taken us this far that we are blindly patriotic to our "stuff". This isn't even good troll humor it's just obsessive nonsense.

Is this the future of internet marketing or has society simply degraded so far we no longer act as individuals making decisions based on our own opinions and not what "team" we wish we were cool enough to play for?

I really hope there aren't people like that making a mess of FM3 forums and videos. If so you are embarrassing yourself so please stop. Aren't we all just fans of video games? :(

There definitely are people like that.
Try arguing with iPhone-users about the flaws of their beloved phone.
More often than not they will just ravage you.

Look at how hard the battle is going on here in the "Cockpit View vs Bumper View" thread, you'd think people are gonna burn a cross on the lawn of people who don't like cockpit view or vice versa.

Looking at that youtube site it seems like shes a 14 yr old girl (and dressed and posed in her pic that would make her parents proud) so I wouldn't take it to heart so much. However you do have a point, some people take it too seriously, and sometimes discussing it in a place like here makes you even more "serious" about your point, I know I myself have fallen into that trap.

It's just a random pic taken from MySpace, Facebook or whatever...
Just from the comments you can tell that that definitely is not a 14yo girl...

I mean I get the wannabie 4chan humor but it's not even worthy of that. And the dedication taken to spam all those videos is just way passed the point of being an effective troll.

Succesful troll is succesful, that's all I can say from viewing that account. However, it fails to get even close to 4chan's /b/ standards. A girl like that probably would not even know what trolling means, not to mention actually doing it. I feel sorry for everyone who takes "her" comments seriously.

EDIT: A quick search revealed 372 results for "her" profile image. Definitely fail troll.

Like Android users, symbian users, blackberry users or palm users.

'I'm a 14 yr old girl who likes forza'. With a pic like that defo not. With a PSN name but no XBOX gamertag Defo not. And with some of the comments this guy either needs to get a life or get serious psyhciatric help

I can remember as a kid the never ending arguements between Spectrum 48k and Commodore 64 owners, much of this was to do with brand loyalty.

Alot of aspects of life you have brand loyalty though, sometimes this can be through common sense i.e. that brand is universally and generally regarded as the best, or sometimes it's blind brand loyalty i.e. a person will stick with a brand no matter what, even if that brand is generally regarded as the worst.

I don't think this has changed, it's just nowadays with the internet, the way in which we can communicate and express ourselves and our views has changed dramatically.

The Spectrum V's Commadore arguements were usually on the school playground between a few people, now via the internet it's a world wide arguement that can involve hundreds or thousands of people.

These people who like to antagonise others with their views have the advantage nowadays, because before, when just a few people were involved, sooner or later there would be a stalement or one party would walk away or give up. Because there's so many more people involved in 'arguements' nowadays, it's the opposite, there's always someone who will either carry on the arguement, not give up or somebody new enters the arguement and helps it to continue as they want to get thier point across.

Unfortunately, I can't see an end to this 'trolling' because as one person tires of it, whether it's starting an arguement or carrying it on, there is always another person to take their place.

It's the way of the world nowadays, unfortunately the internet has given people who like to ''spoil the party'' the perfect opportunity to do so, others see this and think ''I'll have some of that'' and it just snowballs.

Also, some people are very competative and like to go one better than the person before them, which just makes matters even worse.

I don't really think there's any way of stopping this, I personally hate it but have to admit that sometimes I get drawn into it myself.

How can you stop it, is that even possible nowadays..??

I'm not sure it is.

I just ignore them. They won't go away, and there's no talking to them. Based on that last one's comments, he's never played GT, and probably doesn't even own a Playstation. But if you tried bringing up this piece of simple logic, he would just ignore it.

Unfortunately Sturgeon's Law applies to people too.

The only way to get rid of trolls is to work in the dark, since attention is what they're after. And for us without mod privileges that basically means just ignoring them.

Unfortunately the "payed off" trolls are not really anything we'll be seeing less of since it seems advertising is moving more and more away from showing your own product's advantages and instead towards pointing out your competitor's flaws. Trash-talking if you will. And this is of course best done anonymously on the Internet to avoid all forms of libel suits. But in the end it's just business, so whatcha gonna do?

THATS the kid who won't top follwing me every video I go to. He always starts problems with me. I try not to comment on GT5 videos Cause he always follows me and says something. I dislike him a lot. He claims he has a "Asting marting" (I purposly misspelled because he spells it like that). Anyways, he takes it to the extreme.

Just block him then

Brand loyalty is a strange thing.. It gets to the point in some where it is a religion, like people in bad relationships. They treat each other like dirt, yet when someone says, "You're ruining both of your lives." They get called a communist or something that makes no sense.

My new years resolution this year is to not be so critical of others.. But it's only 10:40, so this Youtube idiot needs to go get a life and find his (it's obviously a guy, c'mon people!) kicks somewhere where nobody else is, like an island full of baboons. He would fit in just fine!

That's the reason I've not read any YouTube comments in years.

Side Note: Why on earth does everyone insist on having profile pages that make it impossible to read the text on?

I think those types of people are utterly pathetic. Why would someone go to all that effort, collecting videos and comments and constantly getting theirselves worked up over a videogame? Why don't they just ignore it if they don't like it? I struggle to understand why someone would spend all their free time getting theirselves angry over something as trivial and unimportant as a videogame. I can only guess that it gives them a false sense of superiority, when in reality, they look like fools. It's madness.

THIS is why Myspace tanked in the wake of Facebook.

...er... I live under a huge rock in China and have no idea what trolling is, nor any access to youtube. Could somebody explain what this is about to the under educated web users? (me)

I must say that Gran Turismo 5's strength is the physics and graphics, some of the music, everything else is not as good as it should have been.

Basically a "troll" is someone who posts bad/abusive/offensive/rude comments in the comments sections of sites like youtube or news sites just for the huge amount of good/bad attention they will recieve, often they do it for fun to see what people will say/to see them get very upset about the comment and start huge arguments which can and do get very nasty/offensive/abusive (often referred to as the keyboard warrior). Often I feel the "troll" is an attention seeking child probably one with A.D.D (attention defecit disorder) who gets no attention in the real world and wants to be the center of attention online.

^Thanks for the info.
By the way Phil_2001, my iphone is a real one from the states that a friend got for me. It's not fake but does suck.

I watched that first guy's Forza 3 V GT5 comparison video. To be fair to him, he did bring up some interesting points like:

"GT5 has 70+ locations with rain, snow, day/night etc whereas Forza 3 has 100+ locations but no weather effects; it's always sunny... :("

Then right at the end "But Forza 3 is great and GT5 is poo"

You have to laugh.

These kind of trolls remind me of Young Earth Creationists. They're mentally handicapped and think logic is the devil's way of infiltrating your mind. Hell, even uber-Tea Party members are more logical than these idiots.

EDIT:

Good point...

Not wishing to sound like a fanboy, but those two songs are the reason why I turned off Music BGM in Forza 3.

I'm sorry, I do not wish to be offensive or start an arguement but I think it's actually the opposite.

I am mentally handicapped, and I also have some very limited knowledge of symptons and problems associated with being mentally handicapped, for which there are many, what and how something affects someone can also differ greatly.

One of the symptons of being mentally handicpped is a lack of control, this can be both physical and psychological, but this happens 'naturally'.

My point is this, the actions of these so called ''trolls'' are a deliberate action, there is intent behind these actions, they know what they are doing and they do it on purpose.

People who are mentally handicapped usually do not realize they are offending someone.

For instance, if someone asks me if I like their new car, hair, I phone or whatever, I will answer them honestly. Sometimes when I say I don't like it people get offended, I do not mean to deliberately offend them I am just giving an honest answer to an honest question.

These ''trolls'' are deliberately and actively doing whatever they can to inflict as much offense as possible, that's a big difference.
