So apparently this is supposed to be some kind of good crossover or something.

Overstated Audi Press Release
This is the best thing since sliced bread!!!

Read the rather-silly press release here

Smaller... Okay. I guess thats better? Its got a 2.0T engine with an optional 7-speed DSG box. Cool?

I guess I just don't see the point. I never do with Audi anymore. Thanks but no thanks guys, I'll be giving my money to VW with the Tiguan.

Remember how a few years ago, the designers said they wanted to start introducing emotion into the range, and get away from the "every model looks the same" thing they were doing?

Yeah.

I was completely apathetic until I saw the back of it.

Now I hate it.

+1 👎 another pointless crossover:rolleyes:, though ill probably change my opinion on its appearance when I see one in the metal.

*YAAAAAAWN*

Whoopee. Another Crossover, not to mention, it looks JUST like the Q7. Lit-tle differentiation, People...

Way to be slow to the market Audi...*slow clap*.

I guess every company needs one so what they might as well have Audi jump in on the game. Although I wonder when this crossover phase will die out? I figured the rising fuel prices would have already put the clamps on it but once again I underestimated millions of buyers.

Q7 --> Q5 --> Q3

Its only a matter of time...

I also think it looks ok, though a little dated.

That's just it...There's NOTHING wrong. It's just that there's nothing FOR it, either. It's just another Crossover to get lost in the sea.

Its competing against what, the X3 and its cousin the Tiguan? Soooooooooo, yeah. Not a very exciting segment. Not one that many people care about either.

...And yet Audi says its the best thing ever...

Lets see what Forza has to say!

Because it's a stupid segment doesn't mean it's not a good car though.

It's basically RAV4/CRV sized. And can have a 240hp, 500nm diesel in it, and does 30MPG+. I don't think it's that bad at all.

Against the little competition it has in it's market segment, it's a great car. But, in the broader scheme of things all cars, it is just plain boring and has nothing new to offer.

I figured the rising fuel prices would have already put the clamps on it but once again I underestimated millions of buyers.

You live in the U.S where fuel is a dime a dozen and always will be. There will always be buyers.

Its there to make audi money. Pretty much makes sense to me why they built it. Should sell pretty well, and therefore audi will have achieved their aim.

Atleast it looks better than the X3 and that GLK.

...And yet Audi says its the best thing ever...

lol what exactly do you expect? Every manufacturer says that, even GM and most of the stuff they release is crap.

No, the cost of fuel has remained the same. The reason why its price is going up a dollar a year is because of taxes and inflation.

Seeing that it was high fuel prices that created the segment, I'm not seeing an end coming very soon until most of the population is ready to run around in Fits and Polos.

I've wondered about that. Gas has gone up in dollar amount, but the dollar is at the same time tanking. I've been looking for charts for inflation adjusted gas prices, but can't find any.

Adjusted for inflation, as I recall, we're just shy of the prices when we had the oil embargo under Nixon... Something right around $4.15 per gallon...

Ah, to that I'm uncertain... I don't think the change has been drastic, but its a tough call. Gas is really no more expensive than what it was a year ago during the summer.

Pros:

Not as doofy-looking as a Q7.
Smaller size means it hopefully won't feel like you're riding an elephant (compared to a Q7).
Everyone can pronounce "Q5", unlike Tiguan.

Cons:

Just another SUV that claims it isn't an SUV.
Late-to-the-party, so it will be an anonymous vehicle.
No more NA-market Allroad, but we get this instead.
If you're going to be pointless, at least be bizarre and/or outlandish.

Sigh.

I beg to differ. What if you're one of the plodding idiots who say to-mah-toe? They'll be swallowing their tongues trying to pronounce that.

Audi, I thought all your cars were gonna be uber-sexy like the A5, so what happened?

Volkswagen has this pretentious attitude towards the names of its SUVs.

They know better than to rename the classics this way, though.

I thought they wanted all their SUV names to come from tribes of people who did not speak English so we have no actual rules regarding how it is supposed to be pronounced.

I just want to say first and foremost... I think those small LED lights outlining parts of the front headlights on recent Audis look quite handsome and even beautiful. At least, I think. As far as the Q5 goes, it doesn't look ugly. Most of you know that I actually find subtlety beautiful. Not every car is designed to look as aggressive as a classic muscle car or a Cadillac. I think big car with this design than SUV. Does that remind you of another vehicle I praised? Right- the BMW X6. I would have liked a design of this to be more like the Audi RS6 estate car/station wagon. Who would pay to get one of these? Not too many people. I'm not going to say this is a piece of crap. I'm just going to say that there isn't too much wow to help make this machine sell like hotcakes. I approve this car by 72%. I will give it SOME love since blue is my favorite color. Other than that, maybe a little more sizzle would help this sell.
