I've noticed the number of new members posting here that obviously haven't read the AUP that use terrible grammar, spelling, etc and frequently double post has risen steadily. Why hasn't there been a hard line crack down on this? The AUP is the rules right? It makes no sense to me why I make the effort to abide by these rules but those who don't have a continued existence here....

You've given me an infraction for a useless post/spam along with another for a statement that could've just been deleted and a warning handed out (my opinion, I'm not telling you how to do your job) so it seems reasonable to me that certain members (I've been reporting them numerous times so you should know who) go on with double posting and poor use of the language they speak without spending time in the sin bin. Is this meant to be fair or not?

Use the report button if you see this occurring so that it's brought to our attention.

We are not all always on GTP. When we get to login, we attend to reported issues. Depending on the severity of the AUP violation, the action required will be in equal measure. Sometimes newcomers are given a friendly PM reminder of the AUP, other times it is necessary to issue a formal warning or infraction and only when gross violations occur do we ban members.

but you are.

If you have reported an issue, then we thank you and you should not have to worry about it any further. The person responsible will be dealt with in an according manner. If they continue to violate the AUP with other posts, feel free to report those as well. One misdemeanour might not be enough to have someone sent to the proverbial "sin bin" but continued inappropriate behaviour will certainly ensure their speedy departure from this site.

I'd also like to point out that members are not privy to the action the mod team takes against AUP violations. Infractions & warnings are only visible between the person being issued it and all staff members. Sometimes it may look like no action was taken but in the background discussions might be occurring.

Please continue to report any gross violations as we can't be everywhere at once.

You don't just go straight to ban for grammar & spelling. No one has ever been banned for grammar and spelling errors. Warnings and infractions are handed out first and, as you know, they are given out privately and are therfore invisible to other users.

Every mod gets every report so they will have been dealt with (if required) but you will not be aware of what has happened to another user regarding a dubious post they made.

Guys I fully understand that and I know we don't see the work you do behind the scenes but I have been reporting members for this issue and it doesn't seem like they're trying to improve or make an effort. Just seems unfair to me that there's members here making an effort and those that aren't.

Actually... there are one or two who have been banned for grammar in the past month. It's just that it's a slow process.

I think that the AUP needs to be put on a stickie on every thread. That way people wont miss it. I try to remind people about using the AUP, but only end up being called a "Nazi" or a Troll. I only report posts that are not appropriate for this site. Such as name calling, or swearing, etc. I dont think it is necessary to report a post for grammer, when it can be fixed if 2 things are done.

1. Nicely ask people to make sure they read it.
2. Post a AUP on every thread stickied, so people can see it and hopefully read it.

It will be linked in a more prominent position in the next revision of the site, though to be frank, it won't make much of a difference in terms of who reads it.

I've had a thought about this:

Why not when you're signing up you are forced to read the AUP, scrolling the page is timed to the average readers speed and if you scroll too fast (i.e idiots who just skip it) it puts up a prompt with something like "Sorry, actually read it this time." That'd make people either read it or just try and beat the system but atleast they'd be stuck on the page having to read it.

Then, before actually activating the registration have a 5 question questionnaire pop up asking questions about the AUP, once again you've got to read it to know it.

Not sure how hard something like this would be to implement but it'd make people read and understand it atleast.

I got a two ideas on this issue:

- Having a small area below the subforum/forum's title and placing a few but extremely important guidelines in there to get the people's attention

- After the registration of a new member, he/she has one more thing to fill out - and it's a question like "Have you read the AUP?". There are two choices: yes and no, obviously. If no is chosen, posting privileges are denied. The opposite can be applied to the yes. And also the no option is the default option in case someone is naive or sneaky enough to go through the rules.

I can get a few screenshots from another forum I'm a member of if you allow me if these explanations aren't enough to explain. But still, I haven't read the AUP to be honest when I registered and yet I'm able to keep my behavior here, so in some cases it's all in the member himself.

Problem with that, people will just tick yes...

Well we can also have the forum software "detect" if the member really have read the rules.

Still, no preventive measure is perfect I guess and "bad" members are inevitable so I think that is why moderators and administrators are made in the first place.

No matter what you do, some people just won't abide by the rules.

Plus, I know I just briefly speed-read the AUP. Most of it is just common sense really.

IMHO Compared to other forums, this forum is not doing badly.

I think the moderators are doing a huge effort, we as users can help in the most friendly way we can.

Agreed. An improvement will be nice but I think this forum is still good enough. "If it ain't broke, don't fix it."

That is very true. But it wont hurt to try? 👍
