The best picture from my PS2 - Impossible??

Hey there, I'm new at this forum and in the world of the PS2.

I'm from Germany and I've been expecting Gran Turismo 4 for quite a couple of months (February 23rd is day x!) and just because of this game I recently bought a PS2.

As I watch TV on my PC (and as I'm too broke for a new TV ;) ) I'm also thinking about buying a new screen for my computer to connect my PS2 to the monitor or the PC itself (graphics card) .

Now here are my questions: Is this really a good idea? What screen would be the best for a perfect picture from the PS2 (tube-screen or TFT/LCD?) ? What are the alternatives for my idea and how much would they cost me?

I know, these are a lot of questions but I'd be really grateful if anybody could help me finding an answer.

Thanx, Fatsanatas

Hi - And welcome to GTP, this has, more or less, been answered many many times, so I suggest you try the search button next time - it can work wonders and will leave you without the need for wearing that annoying flame suit all the time :)

Anyway - If you're watching TV on your computer as well, I assume you have a TV card in your computer - Correct ?... In that case - You should be good. I'm using the crappiest PCI TV card that money can buy (Pinnacle PCTV Stereo) for watching TV on the computer, but ALSO for playing PS2 on my monitor - And I'm quite happy with it.

There's a few things you want to do though.. Firstly, assuming your TV card has SVHS input, get a SVHS cable for the PS2. That has to be the biggest difference in quality, and you won't regret it when you get a "real" TV either ;)

Second - Instead of using whatever software came with the TV card when using the PS2, use Dscaler. It's amazing the difference in picture quality this freeware product can do !...

About monitor - Well - I'm a CRT guy for now (still) - I do have an 18" 1280x1024 LCD, but I can't get used to it. It's OK for surfing and IM'ing and stuff, but games.. Nope... So I guess that's up to your personal liking...

Anything else - Ask away ;)

Cheers, and again, welcome to GTP !

Ohh...I'm supposed to ask this - Did you read the AUP and TOS ? ;)

Hey again,

first of all: that's what I call a quick answer ;) ! Thank you very much for your clues and hints concerning my questions, I'll let you know by February 23rd (German GT4 release) about the result.

I guess you're right about the search button, I swear at that point I'll remember it in the future 💡 .

Oh, there is only one more thing: At the end of your page you asked me about the AUP and the TOS. I'd love to tell you that I read those things, but what exactly are AUP and TOS?

"So long" and again thank you!
