The Black Dahlia -
Quite a few reviews i've read of this are completely wrong in there discriptions, so i'm not going to bother trying. All i will say is that Scarlett's charecter is not a Femme Fatale as she is frequently discribbed.
There were two good reasons i wanted to see this. 1, Brian De Palma is a brilliant director. 2, Scarlett Johansen, she's just gorgeous. And i have to say neither really delivered.
All the actors are top notch in there parts, Josh Hartnett is excellent. Since Lucky Number Slevin i liked him alot more. Aaron Eckhart is just as good, although maybe a more well known actor could've helped? Scarlett is lovely, but very under-used. Almost wasted really, she's just eye candy. But in the clothes she has to wear, that doesnt always work. Hilary Swank is very good, ignoring a very odd accent. I can't remember her name, but Hilary Swank's (characters) mum was brilliant. Actually all her family were very entertaining to watch.
Above is nearly all the good things. The bad things. Well, it's to long, cut about 20 mins out of this & it could be alot better, it just seems to drag alot. The direction, this is by no means badly shot/directed, but it's not very "De Palma" ish. I love his long swooping shots that often last a good few minutes, but there's none of that here. Even if it does look really good.
The twists towards the end are quite good, but nothing that makes you go "OMG". And there's quite a good/loud action sequence after about 45 mins. Overall its quite disappointing. But watchable.
6/10
