This thing is so beautiful in motion, and best of all its car related. I wish I could go see it in person, if they keep the installation for a while I may get a chance. Just thought you guys ma like to have a look if you haven't seen it already.

What the hell is it?

According to Engadget:

Ready to have your gray matter softly stroked? Perhaps you should take a trip to BMW's recently opened museum in Munich, where a kinetic sculpture comprising 714 metallic balls suspended in air will soothe your weary mind. It's one of those things that's better seen than described, but if you can imagine a wave of undulating orbs that appear to weightlessly float, you'll start to get the idea. Can't afford the flight? Check out the video -- which features some serious easy listening jams -- after the break and see the installation in action.

Also another Video of it in action allog with some photos of the actual museum too LINK

How do they stay suspended though? Wires? Air pumps? Bavarian black magic?

Wires. You see them near the end of the video, it shows a closeup of them.

Aww, hell. I thought they were using some crazy magnet things or jets of air that somehow didn't interfere with each other.

Oh ok, so that's what those lines are on the top of the photo. I thought they were pixels from the poor quality of the picture.

Still pretty impressive though. But has nothing to with cars or design, naturally, since BMW is putting it on display. :sly:
