We all have that car from our past. The one that wish we hadn’t gotten rid of. I think about it every once in a while. Would love to hear other people’s experiences as well.

Now onto the car that I stupidly let go of. In late December 2018, I purchased a 2008 Acura TSX 6-speed manual. It was purchased after a got a job driving and figured the E39 530i I had was starting to demand more attention than I could afford. The Acura had everything, even the mid-2000s navigation system. I absolutely loved the way the K24 revved to 8500 so freely and how much of an occasion it felt to drive. I put Tein coilovers on it shortly after I bought it and bought the JDM taillights so I could have amber turn indicators instead on the red US ones. I had the TSX paid off for a month before I was rear ended at a stoplight by a Touareg. Every time I see one now, I wish it had not been totaled.

And now some photos

How it ended.:(

Always wanted a TSX back when they first came out. Bought other Hondas instead. Took me 19 years and a move to Australia to finally own one today. ;)

Why, man? Why why why make this thread? 😭

I shouldn't have sold all the cars I bought. Probably my 1969 Oldsmobile Cutlass 'S' w/455 12-bolt rear, column shift and bench seats hurts the most. Sold it when I moved to Australia and then found out one of my brother's-in-law could have imported it for me through the company he worked for. :(

Volvo C30 R-Design with the Polestar tune on it. I absolutely loved it but it was so impractical for where I lived at the time since it couldn't drive in snow:

I also really miss my Tacoma that I had too, but it didn't make sense to try to cart a newborn baby around in it.

This one's pretty much it, or maybe the 98 I had before that one, or the 97 that got stolen/cut up. 20 years ago they weren't worth much, I picked that one up for like, 12k CAD and sold it for like, 16k a few years down the line.

Close second would be the S2000.

Staying on theme

The RSX-S was a lot of fun. Absolutely screamed at the top end, and very practical. But I'm not sure I'd have the ITR if not for having sold it so it's hard to second guess. I miss it though. I also miss this one:

I loved that one. But I told myself that if I were going to keep an accord it would be a 6 cyl. I still think that, but now I don't have one because of it.

How many cars can you keep though?

I think I'd buy a CRX before rebuying either of those though. And a prelude (mostly just so I could call it the 'lude). And a civic. And a civic del sol.

I didn't sell it as it was a company car, but mine would be my Toyota Celica (ZZT230), loved the way it drove and still love the look of them to this day.

This is such a sad thread 😭

Words cannot express the foolishness of such act of letting go the one(s)

Just remembered another one.

My Nissan Primera 2.0e GT, mildly tuned with clutch and brake upgrades and a full NISMO exhaust system. That thing was wonderful.

I did look at those when I was looking at TSXs as well. We got the Infiniti badged version instead, but I could never find a decent one for sale. They were always trashed and abused.

I replaced the TSX with a MK7 GTI, which I don't miss as much as the Acura, but it was a fun experience to have. I do miss the cargo room that my current 128i certainly doesn't have.

I fell in love with the 7th gen Celica after seeing it in Gran Turismo 3. My dad uses a 1ZZ 5 speed to commute to work. We’ve had it for a while and it has many problems from previous neglect so my dad is thinking of selling it. It burns oil, leaks coolant, the power steering system is noisy and heavy in the cold, and there are many other problems but it keep on running. It probably would be harder to part with if I didn’t have a 2ZZ Matrix.

My 1984 RX-7 GSL-SE. I just couldn't justify hanging onto it so I sold it last year. To be honest, it had not run since 2013, but I still dearly miss it. If I ever sell my 986 I know I will miss it too.

My Honda Civic 1.6 DTEC, 2015, 64 plate, was approaching 150k miles so I made the decision to replace it a few months ago. I feel like I made a mistake because it was fine. It had a lot of miles sure but it was still just a case of turn the key and it works, still felt tight, eager, no massive rattles or problems, still drove the same as when I first got it. On paper the performance was modest but in reality it always felt plenty quick enough and the engine was always so torquey and eager. Oh and it was economical as anything too.

Dealer gave me a few magic beans for it then I bought a Focus estate (1.5, 150bhp petrol) which is fine, handles very nicely in fact, but I just can't get away with it. Too many electronic systems, too many gimmicks, despite much better performance figures on paper it doesn't feel any quicker and certainly not as torquey, and far less economical.

I'm already looking at swapping it and miss my Civic so badly!

I miss my third gen 4Runner. I replaced it with a fourth gen 4Runner that was a lot more civilized and boasted smooth, effortless power from the 2UZ V8 versus the crude 5VZ V6 in the third gen. The third gen 4Runner had so much charm and was the perfect size. I don't regret the fourth gen 4Runner, but I should've hung onto my third gen as well. Adding insult to injury, I sold it for way too little. These days, I see crappier third gen 4Runners in worse shape, with higher miles, sans 4WD, in ugly interior/exterior colors (moon mist interior FTW) for more than what I sold mine for, so I doubt I'll ever get back into one.

So many to choose from 🤔

OK, it has to be the 1965 Morris Cooper 998cc short stroke. Amazing fun to drive on Michelin X radials.

Due to some expert improvements to its breathing and brakes, it would outperform the 970 and 1071 Cooper S variants, but be left behind by the 1275.

My 2002 Lexus IS300 Sportcross was a childhood want for me. Was always interested in the IS300's odd taillights ever since seeing the sedan in Gran Turismo 2 as a kid. After finding out they made a wagon/estate/hatchback (whichever you want to consider it), I desired that even more. Found a (mostly) clean one local to me after years of searching (including traveling out of state to look at some) that I ended up buying while still owning my 2001 Lexus GS300 L-Tuned. (Also a rare one) Stored it in the winter to keep it out of the winter salted roads for the first few years, but then after moving out of my parents house, I had to give up owning two cars at a time.

Sold it to a girl in Massachusetts who put 100k miles on it over just a few years, but got into two different accidents in it. Second accident was the final straw and she ended up parting it out and scrapping it.... Sad to know one of the 3,078 in the country were destroyed, but glad she at least put in the miles on it. More frustrating is knowing how much more expensive they are nowadays than when I sold it. People are asking ridiculous money now (at least to me) for a 200k miles one that's usually got a check engine light for $8k-$10k..... Most are modified too...

As I said earlier, also miss my 2001 Lexus GS300 L-Tuned that I bought just before the Sportcross. It was sort of a "holdover" while I was searching for a Sportcross. But it was the first car I fully bought with my own money. (my previous 2004 Mazda6 Sportwagon was paid half and half with my parents) Learned that this was a rather uncommon if not rare factory option package that came with unique wheels and grille that were sadly not on it when I got it. Realize now that I regret not restoring the original L-Tuned wheels that the seller had given me when buying and finding an original grill. Last I saw on the Carfax when looking it up some years ago was that it was well past 200k miles and possibly still going.

Easy to say that I miss almost all of the cars I've previously owned. Even looking back, despite not feeling as much passion for it, my first ever brand new car I purchased, a 2018 VW GTI (MK7.5) was a great car I kind of wish I kept. Don't know if I'll ever get the chance to buy a car brand new again, even though the dealer I worked with on this GTI was absolutely horrible. Sold it right during the used car shortage because it was all too tempting to get just about exactly what I paid for it brand new when selling it to CarMax. Especially when my current car, the 2018 Lexus GS350, popped up in the exact color and spec I wanted. Looking at VW now and how much the MK8 has changed for a bit worse, made me miss my MK7.5. Doesn't help listening to Jason Cammisa's Carmudgeon podcast almost always bringing up how good the MK7 was.

Also glad I got to recreate photo scapes from Gran Turismo Sport in it during the pandemic in Vermont. Even if the one in GT Sport/GT7 was the pre-facelift.
