The Color Indigo: An Arugment

So, I just got into an argument with my girlfriend about the color indigo. She insists that it's a blue color, citing the dye that is used commonly and the MS word color indigo. I say that it's more purple, citing wikipedia (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Indigo) and Famine's post color. What's your input?

Neither. It's between blue and violet on the color spectrum. Indigo the color and indigo the dye are completely different things.

According to wikipedia, which you linked to, indigo is a specific colour. Purple is a range of colours that includes indigo & violet and any other colour between blue & red.

It's more on the blue side I think, but there's definitely some purple in there.

Why not say it's equal parts blue and purple? I think that would be fair. Why don't you and your ladyfriend each concede this much and then spend your time on other things...

My post colour is R75G0B130 (or 480082, for you Hex buffs). Purple here is R128G0B128 (800080). Blue here is R0G0B255 (0000FF)

So officially, indigo (here) is MORE purple than blue (55 colour points from purple, 200 from blue).
