Seeing as GTPlanet is an international forum, I wanted to ask about the beautiful country Switzerland and how much it costs to visit? The reason I ask is because I'm visiting Zurich in April to go to a conference where the Dalai Lama is speaking on economics.

The flights and hotel are booked but I need to ask if anyone who has visited or live there what do things cost? I'm going for a week and taking just over £1000/1500chf to live on and for eating out ect. So any advise on what kind of costs I'm going to face.

In-lu of any answers thank you.

Zürich is full of wannabee in-crowd people and one of the most expensive places in Switzerland. Even a Youth Hostel dormitory bed in Zürich is around 50 swiss francs: http://www.youthhostel.ch/hosteldetails.html?&L=1&user_hostels_pi1[location]=all&user_hostels_pi1[bez]=ZRH&user_hostels_pi1[tab]=details&cHash=707f4cea86 The further away from Zürich you sleep, the cheaper it gets (especially outside of Switzerland … just kidding).

This here would be the obvious way to find accommodation: http://www.myswitzerland.com/en/home.html

A normal worker's lunch costs from around 20 bucks up to whatever you'd like to spend.

Good luck. :sly:

That totally depends on you. You can spend 1500 chf in 1 min or it can last a month. Zuerich is rather expensive, but then again it is not that different than other huge cities in Europe. Living costs are a little higher in the long run compared to other European countries, but we are talking about 10 or 20%.

Since you are mainly talking about food, yes it is considerably more expensive than in Germany for example, expect to spend at least 20 chf per meal. Open end as in every major city. That said you shouldnÄt need more than 100 chf a day...

I've already got my accomodation booked, we are stopping at a place in the old part of Zurich not too far from the riverside, it's cost quite a bit and the credit card has felt the burdens of the main cost. I just don't want to get there and be stung by extream cost of living especially for 7 nights.

Thanks for the heads up.

Then this: (free bicycles) http://www.zuerich.com/en/page.cfm/zurich/family?category=InformationZH&subcat=fahrraeder&id=5941 is your means of transportation. Bring a helmet.

Arrived in Zurich and its a very beautiful, some things are a serious expense but others a not too bad. I'm finding that about 100 to 200chf is seeing two people fine.
