"The data loaded was invalid" message HELP!!

I turned on the PS3 to play tonight and got this message: "The data loaded was invalid"

Can anyone help me out, I really don't want to have to start from scratch. Is this a recurring problem?

I put in Black Ops, to see if it's data was fine, and it got corrupted too. WTF!!!!

Is there anyway to stop this from happening again in the future?
Why even play a game when all you hard work will disappear

sounds like a ps3 issue bud. maybe the harddrive? was it turned off incorrectly? sucks

Backup your save files for every games everyday, mate.

I had this happen to my first ps3 as well.

It turned out to be the hard drive.

I hope you don't have the same issue.

The PS3 has a recovery mode where you can rebuild the database

1. Turn off Playstation®3.
2. Hold The power button down; The system will turn on and turn off once again.
3. Once the System has been shutdown, re-press you finger until you hear 2 consecutive beeps
4. When you hear the 2 beeps take finger off power button.
5. You will be promted to plug in your controller via usb and then hit the PS button
6. The Recovery menu will pop up.

And here what it does:

o Restart System:
+ Restarts the PLAYSTATION®3 System.

o Restore Default Settings:
+ Reset all system settings back to default.

o Restore File System:
+ Checks for corrupt/missing system files.

o Rebuild Database:
+ Rebuilds the OS for the PLAYSTATION®3.

o Restore PS3 System:
+ Fresh restore; Deletes everything and starts from Scratch.

o System Update:
+ Update the PLAYSTATION®3 System

So I strongly suggest you try restore file system or rebuilding the database

My buddy had this happen to him twice. (The first time he got a new PS3 out of it).

I wonder if they told him about the above or if he knew about it...

I spent most of the morning on the phone with Playstation. They helped me a little, but non the less they helped. We went through the "restore file system" with no luck. The lady on the phone suggested trying other games, so we tried Black Ops, same result. She then suggested it was currupt data from Black Ops, so she advised me to delete it. When that didn't work, she suggested fresh restore.
I ended up speaking to her supervisor, who sounded much hotter than the first one did, and she suggested the same thing. Told her to call me back, I have to back up all my Top Gear episodes. She called back but I wasn't finished yet, told her to call back after her break.

While waiting for her call, I check the forum to see if any progress was made on this thread. THANK GOD I DID THAT!!! Tried "rebuilding the database" (Playstation advised me that it wouldn't work) and Viola back in business!!

Well it would be in their own interest, otherwise they probably would have to replace the unit. But if it's not too late (if you haven't restored your whole system yet then it would be an easy fix, takes a few minutes...) just follow the steps and be sure to pick restore file system, then try if it helped, if not try rebuilding the database. And if that still doesn't help then, well it might be the harddrive, but I'm not sure it is. Are you able to listen to music stored on the PS3, or watch a movie that is on the hard drive? If the answer is yes then you might just be able to get rid of the problem by doing what I suggested I really really wish you that it is going to sort out your problem.

You should now put a memory stick in your console and save your precious GT5 savedata, after that go to system settings on the XMB and look for backup system, you will need an external harddrive for that and it might take up to 6-7 hours, but that will do a backup of most of the content stored on your PS3, except copyprotected material like certain game savee data...

After the supervisor called me back the second time, and I told her how I fixed it, she said "I can't believe the person before me didn't have you do that". She then divulged that they'll get Playstations in for "servicing", that would have been find if they just rebuilt their databases.

The supervisor knew her stuff, while the cubicle worker didn't.
