I've won a few of these RUF cars that look very much like Porsches. My first reaction was that GT5 didn't have the rights to the Porsche cars so they created a ficticous brand in order to put some in the game.

Is that accurate or is there some other significance behind the RUF brand?

I dont know but i miss the porsches :( its just not the same ... they have the RR drivetrains like a porsche though

No, it's a real brand alright. RUF uses Porsche chassis and bodywork as a basis but creates a whole new car from it.

They're still RR though.

P.s. this thread will get messy soon... Mark my words. :)

RUF is a German manufacturer. They use unmarked Porsche chassises but due to them using and making their own parts they are recognized as a manufacturer by the German government.

RUF?
Fictional?
LOL. :dopey:

RUF is just like an official tuning for Porsche or something like that. Like Merc with Brabus.

As said previously, RUF is real. They've been in ever since GT2.

RUF Automobile GmbH is a German automobile manufacturer. RUFs are built from unmarked Porsche bodies and chassis. When a chassis arrives, RUF builds their own independent work into the car. Because RUF installs many of their own-made parts, the company is recognized as a manufacturer by the German government. RUF is mostly known for their CTR Yellowbird, and is the biggest and most renowned company to make Porsche performance enhancements. RUF has also made a name for itself as an automobile refiner, specialist in vintage restoration and rebuilds of classic RUF and Porsche automobiles. RUF also carries out service and crash repair.

Since this has been answered - quite comprehensively - I'm pre-emptively locking it before it devolves into the usual argument when this topic comes up.
