The "Drift Idiot" Imposter

Hey GTPlanet!

My name is Sam and I created a little project called DriftIdiot last year. Some of you might be thinking, "wait, some one joined the forums a few weeks ago and said the exact same thing?" That's why I'm here.

I received a message a few days ago on the DriftIdiot Facebook fan page from a gentleman who just wanted to say he had a great time playing GT5 with me. This is strange because I don't even own a PS3 (sorry guys). After some digging I found this:

Which despite having an image of me, speaking about my history in school, my car, where I live, is most certainly not me. This user has made a few dozen posts pretending to be me, and has done enough research into my life to do it effectively. (My friends think this person wants to wear my face. I think the impostor is just a confused fan who wants credit for something they didn't do.)

Hello!


While this gentleman (or lady) who is claiming to be me has been civil to all of you so far, I do not wish to have the liability of some one pretending to be me. This project is still relatively small with a little group of loyal fans whom I do not wish to be alienated in any way. Some one merely calling themselves "Drift Idiot" is certainly fine by me, but taking credit for the many hours of pain and perseverance I have put into this project, using my first name, and being generally creepy is not OK with me.

I don't expect the moderators of this forum to take action (but wouldn't be against it!) as I don't know if the impostor has broken any forum rules. I just want you all to be aware.

To the impostor - Hey man! Cut it out. It seems evident that you think what I do is cool, so why would you want to hurt that? I don't expect a public apology or anything, just please be yourself. You're probably a cool dude when you're not pretending to be me.

To everyone else - Thanks for your time and you guys seem like a really awesome community. My future roommate has a PS3 and I would love to hop online with you guys some time!

As for whether he's broken any rules, he certainly has.

The AUP clearly states that any user will not knowingly post false information.. which pretending to be someone you're not certainly is.

I'd seen this user a few times in the forums and had a lot of respect for "him" or rather you it would seem. I'm incredibly disappointed that someone would do something like this, especially in our community..

Well I guess I'll say to you what I said to him, I love your work! Your humour is really to my taste and I love your attitude :)

Also, do join in GT5 drift lobbies (and GTP!), i believe people here would love to know more about real drifting experience!
 
I do hope this members behavior hasn't caused any ill thoughts of our community.
We generally trust people to be who they claim they are, so naturally we didn't really ask for any verification of his identity.

We're good people! honest! :lol:
I do hope you'll give our community a chance, as DA says we do need more people who drift in real life around here as our numbers aren't very large from what I've seen

The group as a whole cannot be held responsible for one person's actions, especially on the vastness of the interweb, where verification of identity is near impossible unless it's flagged by someone who knows the truth. I'm just glad this was caught so early on. I would have hated to learn 6 months from now.

As am I, I'm just really saddened that something like this happened..
Thanks for clearing this up, it's definitely a good thing it was picked up on before anything more negative came to light.

It definitely is creepy though, but perhaps he will learn his lesson and wont attempt something like this in future.

One good thing to come of all this is he did gander you some publicity, I discovered your videos because of him and instantly subscribed

False information does not typically mean an instant ban, however. In this case, I will give the offending party an infraction and will give them 48 hours to change their profile and to issue a retraction.

Hah yeah I thought about the fact that anyone with photoshop could write their name or "I like butts" or whatever on the paper. Oh well.

Some of my more evil friends were saying I should toy with the impostor by asking really specific questions about the car/videos and trying to break their cover, but I preferred to go about this in a more professional manner.

That.. is seriously creepy.

It would explain the extensive knowledge of Sam's life.. though it doesn't make me any more comfortable and I hate to imagine how it would feel to be Sam right now..

Yeah I was wondering if the geotag was written in or derived from the IP. That's interesting... Before posting this I made sure none of my friends were just goofing with me and they all assured me it wasn't them. Maybe this person has really met me? I should be cautious at future events for people trying to take lockets of my hair or trying to get me to put lotion on my skin.

It's happened to me before, though I thought it was a laugh at the time, nowadays, with almost everything about everyone available on Facebook, even if you don't want it to be, you can never be too careful.

I mean, photoshopped or stolen pics of your cars is one thing, but impersonation is insane.

Still think it's a laugh. I'm probably one of only four people who's read his one blog article.
 
That is really creepy, I should keep a look out for that imposter dude, he might be among us right now :nervous:
 
Well welcome to GTPlanet RealDriftIdiocy.

It has happend to me once before (Not on GTPlanet though) and I know how annoying it can feel inside. (My anger finally started to show after a while, although I am a calm person normally).

Anyway I hope you get 'Justice' on this case.



I guess I'm gonna change my name to Keiichi Tsuchiya and start posting some of his personal details and career statistics.:lol: ...... Just joking
