So after a year, we still haven't got any major drift update to this game. With only 1 drift car on the whole game, I think this is a sad joke. So here is my take on what Polyphony should bring to GT7 and future titles.

--First of all, why
Gran Turismo is the main sponsor of D1GP. Yes, the MAIN. It has been for years. We got a few D1GP cars at GT4 thanks to this sponsorship, but we need a major implementation of the D1GP cars in GT7. You may or may not like drifting of D1 (or other professional drifting) but having GT as the main sponsor and not including those cars in the game is basically a waste.

--Driver and car list

There's a ton of legendary D1 cars, but this is the list I would select to add in game as pre built cars to buy.

-2001 D1GP winner Nobutero Taniguchi - Silvia S15 (personal car, featured in lots of media including Kaido Battle)
-2002 D1GP winner Katsuhiro Ueo - AE86 (legendary Sift/Cusco AE86)
-2003 D1GP winner Yoichi Imamura - FD3S (legendary Apexi car)
-2004 D1GP winner Ryuji Miki - Silvia S15 (Top Secret)
-2005 D1GP winner Yasuyuki Kazama - Silvia S15 (ultra legendary Kazama/ Kei-Office S15 that rewrote what a modern drift car should be)
-2006 D1GP winner Nobushige Kumakubo - Impreza GDB (another car that rewrote modern drifting and changed it forever)
-2007 D1GP winner Masato Kawabata - Silvia S15 (first win of multi championship winner and legend Kawabata with Team Toyo)
-2008 D1SL winner Naoto Suenaga - Silvia S13 (Naoto golden year and a very serius street legal car)
-2009 D1SL winner Naoki Nakamura - Silvia S15 (first championship win of legendary Nakamura)
-2016 D1GP winner Daigo Saito - Chaser JZX100 (first championship win of legendary Daigo and took the world by storm with his crazy jumps)
-2021 D1GP winner Naoki Nakamura - Silvia S15 (after his 10 year ban of the series he came back and took the champ win)
-2022 D1GP winner Masashi Yokoi - Silvia S15 (one of the best drivers and cars in the modern D1 series)

Other interesting drivers and cars
-Mitsuru Harugichi's 326 Power- FC3S (legendary drift cars, father of the "hot boi" style)
-Nobuteru Taniguchi's HKS - Silvia S15 (the famous HKS drift car that had and halleluyah amount of money dropped in it)
-Katsuhiro Ueo's Vertex - JZZ30 Soarer (famous Vertex demo car)
-Yukio Matsui's Re Amemiya - FD3S (famous Re Amemiya FD3S, basically a beef-up version of the street car)
-Nomura Ken's Blitz/Uras - ER34 (famous driver and his 4 door Skyline, lots of version for every year but I think 2006 was the coolest)
-Tetsuya Hibino - AE86 (the madmen himself, legendary driver and car)
-Masato Kawabata - GT-R R35 (the first "super car' build for drifting)
-D1 Lights Hiroki Vito - Silvia S13 (very good driver and long time member of Team Burst alongside Naoki)
-D1 Lights Shimoda Sayaka - Silvia S15 (one of the best female drivers of today)
-D1GP Kuniaki Takahashi - GRX130 Mark X (interesting car and what a modern Chaser would be)

The list goes on and on. Lots of cool cars and drivers that deserve to be immortalized, but overal I think these would cover a lot of D1 history.

--Tracks

The addition of new tracks is a must. Most tracks that modern D1 uses are already in the game, but this are new and should be added.

-Okuibuki Motor Park
This is a very interesting track, as it's basically the parking lot for the Okuibuki sky resort. During off season is used for other events, including D1GP.

The track consist of a main stage, where the D1GP event takes places, and a "touge" stage that are basically the entrance roads around the complex. Very popular among grassroot drifters and beautiful place to host an event.

-Ebisu

Ebisu is a complex of multiple small tracks. Anyone in the drifting world would totally know about this legendary and mystical place. Not only for drifting, it also consists of some grip tracks like Nishi (West), Hizasuri and the gravel track Safari Park. But the most famous of them all is Minami (the one with the jump).

Sadly Minami was finished last year and was turned into a gravel track. For this reason it should be added to GT7 and be immortalized, as this will never come back (at least in a long time). Also since the track is now a dirt track it worth double for the game, as it can hold dirt races in it.

-Nikko Circuit

Nikko is the mecca of drifting for the Tokyo area. It's also a very popular grip track and races happen almost every week. Because of it's weird layout it forces to have a "high power high speed" setup, making it a very challenging track to drift. Here the term San-patsu (3 point drifting) was born.

-Mobara Twin Circuit

Like the new suggest, Mobara consist of two tracks, one for cars and the other for karts and bikes. It's a very famous track in the Chiba area, definitely not the most famous or most popular track in the drifting world, but it's the best place for drifting in the Chiba area, and near this place lots of famous drifts and shops emerged. In the latest years it has come to grow in popularity.

-Meihan Sportland

The most famous race track in the Osaka area. Home for several famous drivers like Naoki Nakamura. Considered one of the most difficult tracks to drift.

--New parts

Well I think this should be a must regardless it's drift orientated or not. More wheel options, bring back interior tunning with added customization, steering wheels, seats, visual weight reductions, more spoilers, more kits (not just lips add-ons), bring back carbon hoods including other body parts, etc.
This game really lacks in visual customization, thankfully we have a great livery design system.

--Game mode: D1 drifting

As the main sponsor of D1GP I think it could be possible to add a drifting championship game mode, where you take part in a race consisting in qualifying, single rans (2 runs) and if enought points, tandem battles until reaching first. The game mode should run like the drifting mode we already have, a designated section where you drift and at the end you get your pints and automatically reset to the beggining, where you do your second run or the tandem battles.
Of course a total drifting stsrem redesign should be on hand with this mode.

--What about other series?
The easiest is D1GP as Gran Turismo is the sponsor, then for other series like Formula Drift is up to the team that negociates all this stuff, or whatever it is done.

This just appears to be a curated wishlist.

We have three Suggestions forums into which the various components of this wishlist - cars, tracks, and features - can be placed or, if already suggested, "liked" as a way of voting on them. Please make use of them.
