The first paragraph of Kenneth Turan's review in the Los Angeles Times, August 5:

"The Dukes of Hazzard" is a film that is not there. It can't really be reviewed because it doesn't really exist. It is not empty calories, which implies pleasure, but simply empty. It's a cosmic void where a movie ought to be.

No surprise, huh?

All I can say is "I think somethin bounced up into my undercarriage". It doesn't look very good at all but I liked that quote by Jessica.

And yet so many men have made a joke out of that quote including myself.

I have hopes for it since Simpson is someone I like and Knoxville's a riot.
"Uh no. I'm gonna get fired."
I would have said the exact same thing.

The storyline is so dumb and predictable it wouldn't have even made the grade for an episode of the original TV series.

Ok...like the TV show was any better written? I could come up with a basic formula of any Dukes of Hazzard episode

1. See Dukes Drive
2. Insert Some Dasterdly Plan By Boss Hogg
3. Insert Roscoe to execute said plan
4. Chase Duke Boys Around Hazard Backwoods
5. Insert Massive Car Jump (Interchangleable With Any Step)
5. Gather up Uncle Jessie, Daisy, and/or Cooter to assist Bo & Luke
6. Foil Boss Hogg's plan
7. Happy ending
8. Rinse, Rather, Repeat Next Week

Why do people criticize this movie for being a dumb comedy? It had exactly what I wanted to see, the General Lee hauling ass on the big screen, looking more bad-ass then its ever looked.

I'm sorry I disagree with many of you, but this movie was great, not Oscar worthy, but it was worth the money to go see it. Sure there are things about the movie I didn't like, but overall I liked it.

You wanna see an example of a "car wreck with boobs", go watch Hazzard In Hollywood , the last original Dukes movie, it was painful to watch. And after seeing it, it made the 2005 remake look Oscar-worthy.

I just saw this movie today and I must say it kicked ass. I just about ended up crying from laughing so hard. AND I've come to decide that I'm going to buy me a Charger and get GNRL LEE on the plates.

"What do you get when you cross a donkey with an onion?
A piece of ass that'll make you cry."

"What happens to a politician if you give him Viagra?
He gets taller."

Good luck with that...everyone and their cousin is thinking the "exact" same thing right now...so prices on even a crappy old, rusted out rolling chassis is going to clear 5000 bucks, not to mention the somewhat 40,000 bucks it'll cost to restore it to movie car quality. Want an alternative?

Smith Brothers Restorations will build you a General Lee for around 33,000 USD. They seem to be the best at restoring these cars, going as far as consulting the original builders of the General Lee's and obtaining copies of their notebooks and even the jig used to make the front ram bar for the TV series cars.

Trust me, all this movie has done for those who want a General Lee is make it even harded to pin down a Charger at a decent cost to make the transformation.

Every little detail you need to know seems to be at this site

Oh, and if you want it to be an Authentic General Lee, I wouldn't chosse GNRL LEE for the plates, try to get CNH-320, the plate used in the TV show and in the movie.

For me, this movie should be pretty good. I have "zero" expectation from this flick........ OK, maybe less.

The TV show sucked (and I came of age when it was on), the people who greenlighted this movie sucked (is there nothing that Hollywood won't try to remake these days?), Jessica Simpson sucks (probably literally, but I don't care), and smashing the remaining few '69 Chargers they didn't destroy making the TV series sucks.

I wouldn't watch this movie at gunpoint.

Did anybody hear about some guy getting paid for watching Dukes of Hazzard reruns? I might have heard of it on this forum. *too lazy to do a search*

I wouldn't mind a night with Simpson if you catch my drift. ;)

Anyways, I heard a lot of Chargers used different bodys than the original Chargers.

I saw something about that on the TV, few months ago. It was some promotion by some company(probably the studio). They were selecting only one or two winners for the jog though.

I think this movie will bomb here in the UK... I used to watch the series, and even used to play being The Dukes Of Hazzard with my cousin when I was little (until my Dad shouted at me for climbing in and out of his Ford Escort through the window  ) ... I even had a 1:18 scale die-cast General Lee that used to do some heroic stunts in my back garden... unfortunately, so did my cousin... having two General Lees made the whole game a bit pointless... (I did try to tell him that he should have got the police car, but he wouldn't listen)...

That said, I may give it a watch when it comes out on DVD, just for old times sake... the film looks pretty awful, but it's as much part of my childhood as 'Dungeons and Dragons' (the cartoon), or Soda Streams...

edit:
@ Zardoz - you obviously liked the film 'Zardoz'... now that's one weird film, but I liked it too 👍 even if Sean Connery is actually saying 'Zschardozsch' ;)

I was just young enough to like the show just because of the car.

But everything else, yep, couldn't agree more!

I want to see it. I always liked the show. My uncle and I when I was young always watched before him and me went to school.(He was in the 12th grade then.)

The blumin film makers have cut this in England to make it a 12. ARGHHHH i hate it when they do this.
Its only drug thingys tho, Jessica Simpson acting tarty is fine. it makes no sense!

I think that this will be a good movie if, and I mean IF, people don't expect too much out of it. Just appreciate it for what it is and you will find it enjoyable. Expecting this movie to be Oscar-worthy is like expecting a sequel to Daddy Day Care. It aint gonna happen :)

Did anyone actually watch this movie? I'd like to see it for the charger scenes but I have a hard time even paying to rent it. :dopey:

I watched the first couple mins of it (if that) and turned it off. When you first see the Duke's screaming as they were driving the General Lee I just though, no this is a stupid movie and hit the eject button.

I loved it, stupid fun movie, unrated version has nice girls frat house scenes, jessica is ubber hot in it, Stiffler and JackAss are funny as hell together, Willie Nelson is classic...My only complaint is I didn't like Burt Reynalds as Boss Hog, it should have been Danny Devito !

Really good movie. How did critics hate this movie so much??

It has everything! Hot chicks, nudity, fantastic driving, VERY funny scenes, memorable quotes and characters, it's just a fun movie from one end to the other!

This movie had some amazing drifting all the way through. There's a scene where they drift the General Lee around a circular road in between parked cars on both sides... it's just one long drift. I'd watch the movie again for the driving alone! But what about all the funny moments??

"I don't think she's in there."
"She might be.."

"Well there's yer problem right there."

"Is a BJ from Daisy out of the question?"

:)

"Alright then, you just enter the general in that race and win it.... and then pay me from the reward money because THAT'S HOW IT WORKS!"

Good stuff. Fun movie. 👍 I might even consider owning this one. Just whatever you do - don't take it seriously.

I think I'll check it out then. I was like VIPFREAK, didn't even want to pay for the rental(thought I get 2 for $3.79!). If you are taking this movie seriously, you are probably in the second grade or have some serious issues. :p
