I'm a big fan of Nordschleife and when I have the time I enjoy racing 450 to 550PP road cars around it, using either sports soft or racing soft tires. With 550PP i tend to get lap times of around 6:45 - 6:50 for cars such as the FD RX-7, the R34 skyline and the 350Z, slightly quicker with the NSX-R and far, far quicker with the M3 GTR. My question being firstly does anyone agree the M3 is completely overpowered? And secondly what do people here use for such events? and what lap times have you relieved?

(finally, my description of a road car is one that comes with no aero and the only aero that can be gained is with a rear aerofoil, NO FRONT DOWNFORCE)

I often use my 350Z, although it has to rely more on the engine power due to the 1228kg weight.

The Tuscan Speed 6 is another excellent one, and rather quick around the corners due to the 931kg weight. However, it's extremely unpredictable: understeers and oversteers randomly :boggled:

The BMW M3 GTR and the BMW M3 CSL have great grip, great power and are very predictable and easier to drive than a lot of other cars, which is why I think they do so well on most tracks. I don't race much on the Ring nor run on it much at all, but the NSX Type R 02', Spyker C8 Laviolette, Ferrari 599, BMW M5's, Lotus Evora and a host of other cars come to mind as good at the 550 PP level on most tracks

Havn't tried the speed 6 before so thanks for that, i'll give it a try and see how i get on.

Yeah i tried the Lotus Evora, it was pretty good! Laps about the same as the RX-7 and the 350Z.

I've had good luck with the Subaru '07 STI Wagon, the Skyline R34 Nur. Edition, & Acura NSX (1992 or 1991, the one you can buy from Acura Dealer.) There are a couple other ones, but I'm not at home to check.

Good cars around 550pp on the nur has to be the 430 scud, thr R35 gtr or a fully souped 98-99 sti coupe... Not to mention all that is M3 (e46 gtr street or race, e92...)

I race many different PP550 cars. But the one I always end up using when I want to win is the Amuse 380RS Super Leggera. I race mine in racing hard tires, and it is by far the best PP550 car I have. It handles almost just as well on sport softs too.

That Leggera is quick, but he was after cars that have no adjustable front downforce. Some great car to check out are the 430 Scuderia, Lotus Esprit 350GT, RX-7 Bathurst, 458 Italia, and the NSX-R Concept. I don't have lap times, but have done some extensive testing with those cars and have been impressed with the lap times at other courses. The BMW CSL is by far the quickest you will probably find, the M3 GTR is slower but much more stable.

True, but it is a road car not a race car. My old M3 E30 Sport Evolution had adjustable front and rear downforce, but that in no way makes it any less of a road car.

Yes, sorry the 380RS does not class as a road car due to its adjustable aero, it is pretty fast though. It's a shame that the M3's are the quickest out there. I was hoping polythony would have balanced the PP system well so any car would be competitive at the appropriate PP level. I'll try the options suggested here and continue with my own research.

Yeah the LFA is very quick! It almost feels a bit unfair bringing that against sports cars being as its a supercar but i suppose its a roadcar none the less.

Yeah i tried the Lotus Evora, it was pretty good! Laps about the same as the RX-7 and the 350Z.

Seriously? The Evora can keep up with the RX-7 and 350Z? I fully modded one and it still feels super slow and underpowered. :grumpy:

I got a 6.42 last night which is about the same as my RX-7. For the set-up i used full power and 10 rear aero and ballast to bring it down to 550PP but most importantly set the ballast all the way forward, then with a 7-4 front brake bias a drop 10mm in ride hight and a slightly harder set up with a harder front roll bar and slightly softer rear should quell the understear you are recieving.

Elise, NSX and I second the Evora, great car and fast.

The Esprit 350 is good also.

Nice to see you on here MC!

If it isn't Phil =]

Knew you would choose the Elise! I think though it lacks the straight line speed to be truly competitive!

Thanks for the info mate! Still I didn't know the Evora had so much potential.

Not trying to take this off topic but I know how you feel about street cars with adjustable front downforce like the Speed 12 and the ZZII until I realised that some cars have fixed front down force like the Ferrari Scuderia and the Italia among several others (if you add a spoiler and aero kit you will see they are both +15)

Well, certainly we can debate the degree of downforce produced by street cars. Generally speaking though the aero properties of most sports cars tend simply to reduce lift than add downforce! Also the speed 12 is certainly no road car.
But When racing 550PP street cats i find the most fun part is the variety of possible entrants if the very few 'street' cars with downforce were allowed then it would throw the balance off and make it yet another 1 make series *yawn*.

Here are some other ideas:
TVR Tamora
RUF 3400S (no wing available!)
Alfa Romeo 8C
Camaro SS '10

I'm confused! :)

Okay, my favorite track is the Nurburgring. Once in a while, I would get in an online game where the host insists on "No Race Cars or boot!".
With that said, can someone give me a list of top 5 cars that meet this requirement?
I'm looking for the most competitive car to race online.

Unfortunately it depends alot on the PP limit allowed in the room. We're discussing 550PP here, and all the suggestions here are good bets! I don't think theres necessarily a "best" for any PP, thats sort of the fun of road cars, plenty of variety.

A lot depends on the host. My suggestions were aimed at the definition of a road car provided at the beginning, but they should just be competitive with the ones already mentioned. I don't have any illusions that any are faster than the M3 CSL.

'No Race Cars' can be interpreted many ways as there is a lot of gray area between the road cars mentioned here and race cars. That gray area contains a lot of high performance cars. In the tuner category, the Amemiya FD3S RX-7, Mine's BNR34 SKYLINE GT-R N1 (de-tuned), Nissan 370Z GT Academy, Amuse 380RS and such will be up there. Supercars not mentioned yet like the Ferrari California, Mercedes SLS AMG, Aston Martin DB9 are also pretty quick. You could even get away with a Ferrari Scuderia or 458, or a Lambo sometimes. If you have a really lax host, you can try a McLaren F1 (de-tuned), a R390 GT1 Road Car or a NSX-R Prototype LM Road Car. It just depends on the host and what you can get away with.

You can tune the HP down and change the downforce (if available) to reduce the PP. I had a car that was new and I was using it during that time, way back, when we could go online. It's PP was close to 600 so I detuned it to 550. After each race I went to the next track in a series of 5 and I had no car!

I finally detuned it by 3 PP. That allowed me to finish the last 2 races without detuning each time. Each time I ran the car the new, tight engine was loosening up and creating more HP, thus more PP.

I prefer a car easy to handle more than a twitchy fast car at the Ring. The track is sooooooo long that one mistake just seems to compound my frustration with a twitchy car and I end up doing poorly. When a car is forgiving it is more fun to drive.
