Some time ago, I tested many stock cars at Trial Mountain. The criteria was that Standards had an engine and body rebuilds (if they'd clocked over 3,000 miles, when the engine degradation and power loss starts to kick in) and premiums had an oil change out of the showroom, but were obviously not broken in. Aside from that, stock settings and assists off apart from Sports Soft tyres, and ABS at 1. I ran about 10 laps in each.
Here were the results for some Lotuses:
1:32:831 Lotus Esprit Sport 350 @ 370hp
1:34:567 Lotus Evora @ 283hp
1:35:910 Lotus Elise 111R @ 198hp
1:36:246 Lotus Motorsport Elise @ 211hp
Since then i've become a better driver, so please if you want to beat these times knock yourself out, I would go faster too nowadays (plus spec 2.0 physics would have an effect), but the point is these were all set close to each other at the time, under the same conditions.
Just a few observations:
- The 111R is 5 years younger than the Motorsports Elise, and not much less powerful. I found the 111R to be quicker.
- Seriously try the Esprit against the Elise on any track and the Esprit will win hands down. Be realistic, the Elise is a quick car with awesome handling but it's not a supercar like the later Esprits were.
- Oh and for the usual Veyron haters, out of 150 cars I tested, the Veyron was easily the fastest non-concept production car around the track, at 1:26:907. To claim a Punto or even an Elise is quicker around the TGTT is ridiculous. Just check your speed on the follow through, and compare. And no i'm not a Veyron fanboy but use that facile response if you wish
- Final point, I didn't try any other 90s Esprits but some if not all of these also develop 350hp+ so may actually be quicker than the 350 Sport.
