They must be....two sensible decisions over the course of 8 days? shocking stuff

The FIA has stood by the Japanese Grand Prix race stewards' decision to penalise Toro Rosso's Vitantonio Liuzzi for passing under waved yellow flags during the race.

Liuzzi has found guilty of passing Spyker's Adrian Sutil under waved yellows on lap 55 of the 67-lap wet race at the Fuji Speedway.

As a result the race stewards imposed a 25-second penalty on the Italian driver.

The penalty saw him drop from eighth to ninth place while Sutil took the final points-paying position.

Appeal

Toro Rosso appealed the decision and the hearing took place in Paris on Friday.

However, the outcome saw the FIA stand by the stewards' initial penalty.

"Following a report from the race director, the stewards of the meeting decided to impose a penalty of 25 seconds to be added to the elapsed race time of Vitantonio Liuzzi for having overtaken another competitor while a yellow flag restriction was in place,' a FIA statement said.

"Having heard the explanations of both parties and having examined the various documents and other evidence, the Court confirmed the decision of the panel of the stewards of the meeting."

As a result Spyker will hold onto their one point, while Liuzzi stays on three points.

Well, they never showed those parts of the track while Liuzzi passed Sutil, so it's pretty much in the dark for us whether or not there was a green flag where he passed him - though I know I've seen some of those being waved.
