The first death of the E60 M5

This M5 arrived in Taiwan last week and the accident happened just a few days after it passed Taiwanese car inspection. When the accident happened, the car only had temporary testing license plates and had no insurance on the car (Taiwanese car insurance is on car, rather than driver like North America). The accident happened during a magazine road test against an E55 AMG.

The driver was trying to take a corner with very uneven road surface, and lost the backend, hit the divider, flipped the car 3 and a half rotations, and stopped by a tree. 3 passengers were in the car, 2 of which walked away without a single scratch, 1 has a minor scratch on his arm.

Car was totaled, as it's structure is damaged beyond repair, but no one was seriously hurt. M5 is defintley a very safe car.

The magazine that's responsible for this on the other hand, will have to pay for the car, which is worth a bit more than 200k USD. since their car didn't have insurance yet at the time of the accident.

Wow. I don't really know what would be worse, becoming the first person to wreck a E60 M5 or realising that someone has to cough up $200,00 to pay for a new one.
 
More proof the Germans make a fantastic car. Too bad it took a beautiful car to prove that point. The driver should be jailed for wrecking the car. 👍
 
Normally I would make some joke about how "they fixed the styling" but, seriously, can they at least salvage something? The engine? Also, I didn't know the thing cost so much. I always thought it cost around 100,000 to 150,000 at most.

I know its all in fun, but this is as far as making jokes at the driver need to go. Anything nearing what UCP said, and I will contact a mod.

Looks like the sump or the bottom end is punctured - dont think it would be too salvageable

Actually, the price is going to be about $85K in the US. That puts it just higher than the outgoing M5, and right in line with the current E55. I'm not sure where you heard $200k.

The vehicle was wrecked in Taiwan, and southeast Asian countries are notorious for putting unbelievably high tariffs on foreign imports so that motorists are forced to buy from local manufacturers. No guarantees, but that's a likely answer.
 
Well they say crashing a hire car is one of the things you have to do before you die.....this comes second best.
 
Well, this certainly proves that the new M5 is a very safe car. Impressive that nobody was seriously injured.

you're right .. here in Malaysia, import car tax is between 150-300% :indiff:

price for a R34 GTR over here is RM 380,000.00 .. thats over 100 grand in US dollar..
