As I have not found a thread for this I'm sure there's a lot of anglers around the world.
Please feel free to add your storys and pictures here but please name the fish and venue.

Me and my brother-in-law had a session at Drayton reservoir, Daventry, England.
We had a estimated combined weight of around 290lb of Carp, All of them Mirror Carp between 11 & 18lb. Shame the 20's to 40lb didn't show but there's plenty more days.
My brother-in-law after thinking he hooked a small carp landed a glorious 2lb9oz Roach on a 14mm Halibut pellet (I was shocked).

I love to fish, but unfortunately don't get to do it a whole lot. It really sucks considering we have some of the best fishing in the world. Hopefully I can get a boat sometime in the future.

Hey Jay,I would love to share some pictures and stories about my fishing trips...:sly:
But as You well know the only thing I can fish are ice cubes from the bottom of my empty Bushmills glass...:dunce:

But please tell us more about that big one that got away...:p:lol:;)

Yay, saves me starting a new thread.

Man, I love fishing, don't go often enough though. It's about time I started going once a week in place of getting drunk, plus it's cheaper and I live 2 minutes from one of the largest rivers on Earth!

What I really need are some tips from some experienced river fisherman. I've always fish lakes and never caught anything on the Yangtze or Jailing rivers but really want to try harder.

I've been online all day trying to find out which species are in there and what techniques to use but I didn't have much luck.

Anyone? GTP fishing club?

I was an IGFA junior angler. :D My friend's grandparents had a nice boat/yacht and I used to do all kinds of offshore tournaments with them. Ocean fishing with friends is so fun. The best part is that you just drive around and hang out until you get a catch. We used to get a lot of tuna.

Drift fishing with the current in shallow water sucks though because the boat rocks too much and just standing there with a rod can make you dizzy. Only thing I ever caught doing this was a little tiny snapper at night.

And charter fishing also kinda sucks unless you go out with real pro dudes. If it's just a touristy thing you'll likely just be on a boat with 20 other people, and you'll be standing by while the Captain's sons (who smell like salty old baseball caps and fish guts) are helping all the clueless people.

I also used to fish the pond by my house and would catch and release largemouth bass. My friend's grandpa from the philippines would catch these little bluegills and cook them. :yuck: They smelled so awful since they lived their lives in this gross pond lol. Seriously, it was nasty.

I've never been out on a boat. I used to fish at least once a month in the UK but only on ponds, mainly catching carp, bream, pike and other inland fish.

I've not got much of a clue when it comes to the Yangtze, though I play to do some research into it.

Discuss the worlds most participated sport, Fishing, here. Anything from Trout to Tarpon, Lures to Leadweights - talk about it here.

-------

Anyway, I plan on buying in unbranded plugs(/crankbaits) and selling them on for a profit. My problem is what to call the colours. Rapala/Berkley etc. set the trend for names (Fire Tiger, Fluorescent Orange etc.); but would it be acceptable for me to use these names?

I'm not entirely sure if the colour-names are copyrighted. :p
And we're talking about colours that everyone who fishes is familiar with.

I'm not too keen on calling a lure - that every angler knows is a Fire Tiger - something made up.

Can anyone offer any insight, whilst I examine the copyrights?

Thanks in advance.

I think for the most part you just answered your own question.

Inventing your own colours can't be that much of a problem. Just because those colours are already well known doesn't mean that others can't be created.

Perhaps this should go in the sports forum since it belongs there and not the RS.

EDIT: I've decided just to imagine up my own colours. I've decided it would look slightly better. ;)

Why don't you change the name to the fishing thread or something?

I know of a few guys on GTP who like their fishing, and its something I could get into as well.

I think I made a fishing thread a few months back. Wasn't too popular. Can't seem to find it now though. Maybe it was Omnis who made it...

I like fishing although I don't do it nearly as much as I'd like too. I used to go with my dad pickerel fishing way up in Canada, north of Thunder Bay, ON on a small lake called Pishidgi which connected into a larger lake called Lake Wabinosh via the Kopka River. It eventually emptied out into Lake Nipigon though some pretty cool waterfalls. The fishing was always awesome and I hope I can get back some day. I remember when I was really young my dad caught a Sturgeon and it still remains one of the weirdest animals I've ever seen.

I've also fished out on the big lakes, mostly going after Salmon and Lake Trout, but big water makes me motion sick so I tend to avoid it.

Some of the fish me and my dad caught in the pond in our backyard:

And for anybody that says you need special rods/reels/jigs/etc., we're fishing on equipment that dates anywhere from 13-37 years old. :sly:

If you're not eating them, please catch and release.

Nice memory, Shem. Shemory. Merging with old thread...

I have not fished since I was really young, and with my dad, but I'm about to start & for the first time in the U.S.(just trout fishing or is it called angling?) At first, $33 for permit, another $30 for the reel & rod seemed cheap, but they do add up after bunch of little things from hooks, swivels to a new folding chair(:p).

Since I'm a total noob, I plan on watching few "fishing for dummies" type videos on youtube before I head out.
