My favorite will always be the first generation (64-73). They are just so basic and raw compared to newer models, both in the design and how they drive. Light and nimble. And, they are so beautiful in the original shape. A well sorted early 911 is a blast to drive. Absolutely love them. And they practically weigh nothing!
Only downside is that the ”rawness” and the fact that they are 52+ years old also make them a bit… uncomfortable while driving them on longer trips. But just going out and hit the back road for a couple of hours is just awesome.
A 1973 2.7 Carrera RS is probably the purest and best 911 experience I would presume, though I unfortunately never have been able to drive one. I have driven a 75 2.7 Carrera MFI with the same engine though and that’s an experience I never wanted to end.
The 930 Turbo is absolutely bonkers with its hilarious turbo-lag and 4-speed gearbox (89 has a 5-speed). And it is probably the most iconic design of the 911. LOVE it.
The 87-89 Carrera is also a favorite with awesome looks and the sweet G50 gearbox. Very easy to live with and can easily be a daily driver. Very modern compared with the early 911.
The 964 has grown on me the last 5 years or so, did not care too much about it before but now I actually think it looks better than the 993. Got to be a manual though.
The 993 is the end of an era and is extremely good, capable, reliable (well all of this can be said about every 911) and pretty 911. Very refined and as modern as an aircooled go (if you don’t buy a Singer but thats another story).
The 996 is a bit underrated in my opinion, even if the styling probably is the least attractive in my eyes. That only goes for the base model though; the Turbo, 4S, and GT3/GT2 is just perfection in my book.
The 997 is my favorite of the water-cooled models. After this they get too big I think. A manual 997.2 S with aerokit - yes please.
I have zero driving experience with 991 or 992 so cant really say too much about them, other than they of course look good.
