Hey guys,

I have been here for about a month now. I love the discussion that goes on here. I love how a lot of people that are just as serious about this game as I am. I believe anyone that has had the pleasure to be part of these forums can take nothing but knowledge from the members here. BUT! But, lately all I have been reading about is how Johnny_screwoff rammed you off the course or spun you for the win in the last corner. When I read that all I see is a bunch on negative crap. Now there has been some good discussion about how to race properly and racing etiquette. I want to touch base on that kind of. Which is why I propose this topic!

The Good Guy's Club

I want to hear about your positive good guy, courteous, good hands driver thing you have done in a race when you mistakenly hit someone and they spin or go off the track.

There are some good racers out there, even though it may not seem like it. If you all participate maybe we can turn a few heads about online racing. I mean come on there is a thread about how people will not racing online anymore because the crap johnny_mornon pulls. I want to make a difference, maybe I will or maybe people won't give a crap. So I will start, my story, which happened today!

My good guy deed:
I was racing a Suzuka. I was in my S2000 and the other guy was in a Viper Tuned. I was faster in the Essues than he was, well the second lap I got my noise inside of him then slid up the track, naturally causing him to go off the track and spin into the sand pit. Well being the stand up guy that I am; I stopped my car dead in the turn and I waited for him to drive out of the sand pit, allowing him to take Position 1 again. Long story short I ended up winning the race on the last lap in a clean pass on the last turn!

So let’s hear those good guy stories!
 
I have done the same recently. If I see a gap on a turn I will take ,it within reason. But I have clipped/side swiped another players car which in turn caused them to drive straight off the track. I'll slow down or stop (depending how fast the other player can get back on track) and let that player pass me. I have also let another racer win on the final straight of Fuji. I was slip streaming and would have won easy but he put up a good race so deserved the win. I would have also accepted if he 'smart-blocked' me on the final straight (which I think is perfectly acceptable only on the last lap).
 
A couple of times i got down on the last corner of the race after leading the whole way, i could easily just block the guy but thats not racing in my book.

I tried to slip stream him again but he was weaving like a chicken :scared:
 
basically all guys with _GTP_ or _GTRP_ in their PSN-IDs are very good drivers. They might not always be the fastest but by far the cleanest.

I really like to race them. Once I had a very nice battle on Suzuka with a blue Z06 Tuned in my blue Viper Tuned. But he braked to late for spoon so I passed him inside. Then in the mirror I saw someone rammed him in 130R out, so I waited after the shicane for him to have another nice battle with him. I could overtake him on straight before 130R (80% of time I overtake here since it seems I often accelerate earlier out of Spoon) but I decided not to. I have the F1 car 2 times and 1,2 mio crds and also every single car in the game so positions don't matter to me at all.

I am going to see whether I can join the GTP list. I am not the fastest driver but believe in respect and fairness. and a damn good challenge ;)

EDIT: Doh... I have the DL version ... no changing psn ID's :s looks like I'll have to get the BD version after all ...
 
The other day racing at Daytona in a PP600 race I clipped a guy whilst braking for the first corner and it knocked him wide, so on the exit of the corner I slowed down till he passed and then accelerated again and passed him fairly a few corners later. We were both a fair bit ahead so it didn't spoil either of our races.
 
I was racing at fuji and I braked to late, hitting first place and sending him 5M into the gravel, I let him back in front, allthough I lost 1ST place doing so :dopey:

No matter how many rules get put in place, there are always going to be "grey" areas and people are still going to end up in arguments, its inevitable, its essentially part of competitive racing. The best advice is to always try and understand other people's point of view on things and just accept that accidents do happen. No need to waste time with petty arguments about who's right of way it is.
I'm not saying we shouldn't have rules, in fact theres a few we already have around here (a common one seems to be the "one block only or no blocking at all" rule). I'm just saying you're never going to get rid of arguments.

Had quite a few races with these guys and they're all good.

Also had the pleasure of being in a few races with GTP_Sphinx last night. Very good racer but I figured out his strategy and hope to find him again on Suzuka to give him a proper challenge.

Edit 1: Had good races with quite a few people but I really only look for the GTP_ prefix. I'm sure I raced other people on this forum who are really good.

Here's a good guy story (actually it happens every time) and sorry but there's negativity in here. Any time I attempt a clean pass, the person I'm overtaking nearly always cuts me off, meaning they get rammed of course. Me having had patience in the past, waited for the guy by slowing almost to a stand still and getting off the racing line, so I could allow him to pass. So what's he do? He rams me for what I guess was revenge for something that was his fault.
Moral of the story: Nice guys finish last, dead last.
Note: I don't go out ramming people to win, but when accidents happen that aren't my fault like that story just there, I just keep going. Otherwise if it was my fault, I slow down. And some of them won't ram me back, but most will.

This is one of the reasons why I have been suggesting as much as possible that we all get our GTP tags on! Alot of people, even the regulars have not switched yet. It makes life very simple on track to see a GTP tag in the mirror and know that barring a mistake your bumper is safe.

The way I have been driving is that if I see a GTP tag that I think may be quicker i nthe moment I move out of the way for them to go by. That is my idea of team orders, doesn't make sense I hold them up when instead I can follow and make our way to the front.

The one problem however is that a couple GTP guys so far almost don't expect to get passed and it can get quite difficult. I have gone under a couple guys so far to be turned down on, they back off immediately but usually by then we could be in trouble.


POINT---------guys, get your GTP tags on!! all you have to do is create a su baccount in your PS3 and tell it to send the GT5P save files over! I am a PS3 newbie and can tell you its a 5min operation to get going.
 
I Run a bright Yellow in yer face Tuned Viper and love the Suzuka circuit ! It runs good times but as ever with some contact it spears off ! Racing is Racing and if you see a gap you have to go for it and yes sometimes it doesn't pay off but i always make a point of slowing if i cause someone else to lose a place by sending them in to the dirt its a simple fact of courtesy. Example last lap Suzuka im slipstreaming and get a good run on the 180 turn but miss judged my braking point and the car in front was being extra careful not to lose it and i hit him hard sending him head on it to the stop blocks at the chicane. OOPS ! However i never want to win by these means it never feels right so i slowed right down as i approach th finish line and can see movement in the rear view mirror. Im thinking " the win is yours my friend and apologies" except it wasnt him and 4 cars past me "Oh Pooh !" . My momentum carried me over in 5th and the poor sod i hit was 9th.
You can do all you can to be honest and race solid but sometimes it doesnt work out. I have had experience if someone brakes way to early (not intentional like some do on the straights to get a boost) and if i shunt them i slow so they can retake the position and we can get back to business, but oh no RAM RAM RAM and im thinking what are you doing you plonker. " Theres note as queer as Folk !

Q...HOW DO I CHANGE MY TAG TO INCOPORATE GTP_ ???
 
I participated in some races with Ezza [AU] and I have to mention what a great racer he is, very fast, very clean and a true sportsman, there were many times that he was just behind me and could have passed me with a risky move, but waited for a true opportunity and in the meanwhile was putting pressure on me, just like professional drivers would do. He drives a yellow Tuned Evo IX, and I find my self hoping that he's on the grid everytime I start a race.

I also had a couple of races with a nice fast guy whose ID I don't remember, but it starts with West... and he's german. He drives an Audi R8.

I don't know whether they are GTP members, but they don't have the GTP tag (well, me neither :dopey: ). I played them at Suzuka 700PP
 
lol Chadwick I did the EXACT same thing through the Ess's in Suzuka to someone who had a GTP tag over their name, except we both went off into that dirt trap, and I could've gotten on miles ahead of him, but I stopped there in the trap and let them get back onto the track before I did, because I slid and hit the side of his car sending him into the trap.

IMO Suzuka is the biggest challenge online with Fuji short behind it, since the barriers are well off track and with the grass/sand everywhere you go off you are almost garunteed to lose 2-3 positions, unless of course you were miles ahead to begin with =p
 
I love how GT5:P multiplayer is uniting everyone on this forum, rather then starting feuds and such.

Glad to be a part of it.

I'll be online tonight and hope everyone joins me for some good clean racing!

I hope to be one of those guys you guys want race with. I try to pervay the exact kind of racing you all believe in. I may not be prefect and I will get a little eager in some cases and hit you in the middle of the corner, but its not because I am trying to spin you. I will give you the room if you are faster or I see you coming. When I bump youon the striaghts its because I want to make you go faster so we can catch the leader or go faster and run from the field. See you guys tonight!

Thanks, I knew this thread would get some good response. Maybe we should do some kind of Good Guy's of the week type of thing? Like every week we annouce the Best clean guy or something. If you are nominated you can put something in your Signature stating you are apart of the good guys club.. lol I dunno it seems like a lot of work!

jmcn R is a prefect example of the Good Guy's Club..I was in several races with him a few days ago. Well I bumped him off the track at the high speed ring. After the fact I found him inthe forums here and PM'ed him and explained to him that I was sorry about that and didn't mean nothing by it. Now its all good! lol

I wish we had the ablility to speak to each other online..Then I could have apologized right there.
 
I have slowed down if i have knocked someone by mistake,let them pass me sometimes forfiting (sorry bad spelling) the win.
 
hello any1..... i think its safe 2 say that most of us longterm (gt fans) have waited a long time for this 2 come on line.... now that it has..theres a small few who have no class or pride in there driving..... you know who you are...... any way, i would like 2 think of myself as a fair and just racer...... ill always give a clean race 2 any one i battle with... whether thats being in front or behind.... however.... and this part is for real.. if the other driver or drivers start 2 take advantage of goodsportsmanship...meaning you allow a clean pass or make a clean pass.. and you catch up or they catch you. and decide 2 ram you deliberately....again you know who yous are..... well for me that means all bets are off.. and you deal with the consequences of your actions......theres always going 2be a bit of bishbosh in racing.... both real life and virtuall.... this is part of good close racing and makes your heart beat faster than most joggers..... but nasty ramming we should not stand for.... and the thing the HIT AND RUN BIRGADE... should remember is soon we may be able 2 choose who we race with... and being known as a rammer or as i call them hit and run people may find they never get invited 2 particapate with those who love 2 win or loose 2 another great driver........ thats all i have 2 say on the matter....please feel free 2 tear me a new one one if you feel i am being 2 harsh or taking it all a bit 2 serious......... SLAINTE......👍

A: Its very easy Gray, what you do is create a new log in account on your ps3. Call it what you will cos it don't matter.

Then log onto it and go to the sign in button and you will have to setup a online account again. For this you will need a new e-mail address and make it a sub account.

Make sure your new user name for online has GTP_ at the begining of it (example GTP_ButtonJ) and make sure your right your password down for safe keeping.

Once you have done this all you have to do is log back into your first account and find your GT5-P save. Press the triangle button and choose copy to the new account.

Check this page out The Official GTP PSN Registry follow the instructions.

What about for someone like me who purchased the download version, is it even possible to use it when signed in under a diff name. I read somewhere that such a thing was not possible.
 
sorry to go off topic, but what if something goes wrong with your ps3? like say, if you have to reformat it, would you lose your download ? is there anyway or type of receipt that can get you another one just incase? what if it becomes corrupt (the download data)? just curious. god forbid this happens to anyone.
 
Hmm I think this thread is lost. No enough people care. Any other stories?
